Brahe's Contribution in Observational Astronomy

Tycho Brahe

One of Brahe's greatest contributions to astronomy was the Rudolphine Tables.

Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion

Johannes Kepler (1571-1630)

Law of Planetary Motion :

Law of Ellipses Law of Equal Areas Law of Harmonies

Law of Ellipses

The path of the planets about the sun is elliptical in shape, with the center of sun being locatedat one fucos.

Aphelion is the point in a planet's orbit that is farthest from the sun.

Perihelion is the point in Earth's orbit that is nearest to the sun.

Law of Equal Areas

An imaginary line drawn from the center of the sun to the center of the planet will sweep out equal areas in equal intervals of time.

Law of Harmonies

The ratio of the squares of the periods of any two planets is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their average distances from the sun.
