BRAILLE
Braille is special writing for blind people. Blind people cannot see, but they can read
Braille. Louis Braille invented the system in 1824, in France. At the time, he was only
fifteen years old.
The letters in Braille writing are not normal letters. They are dots on the paper. Blind
people touch the dots; they read the letters with their hands. Dots do not represent
only letters of the alphabet; they also represent numbers, punctuation, and frequent
words. Many blind people in the world can read in Braille. There are many books
written in Braille but they are very expensive.
Now, blind people can use computers and CD players at home and at work. There are
also calculators and different machines which can talk, these help blind people, too.

Rons daily routine in Scotland
My name is Ron and Im 16 years old. From Monday to Friday I get up at 7:15
and get dressed for school. My school has uniform grey trousers, black shoes, a
white shirt and a grey red tie. Girls wear grey trousers or a grey skirt. Not all
Scottish schools have a uniform.
I dont live far from school, so I walk there with my friends Mark and Sarah.
Lots of students catch the school bus or their parents drive them to school.
Every Monday morning we start the week at the Assembly Hall where the
school director gives us information about the important events for the week.
This year Ive got eight subjects. We all study English, and Math, and we
choose other subjects. My favorite ones are Science and Chemistry. Mark likes
French and Spanish; he wants to be a translator. Sarah is excellent at Physics.
We have two breaks of ten minutes each and an hour for lunch. Most studentseat at the cafeteria where you can get a hot meal but my friends and I prefer to
take a salad or a sandwich for lunch.
School starts at 8:30 and finishes at 3:30, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays I stay
there until 5 oclock. I go to the Drama Club which I enjoy a lot. There are a lot
of clubs at school. Mark attends the Piano Club with Sarah.
At home I usually spend an hour on my homework every day. Then I watch TV
or play computer games. At 8 pm I have dinner with my family and two hours
later, I finally go to bed and get ready for another school day!
