ABOUT LA SERRA MK TEXTILE ATELIERIn an old greenhouse in Florence, Italy resides the company La Serra MK Textile Atelier. Founded by Margherita Pandolf-ini and Karl Jorns in 2008, the studio is young, lively and ex-citing. Using a variety of techniques such as screen-printing, hand-painting and block printing, the two produce unique soft furnishings for the home.
Margherita studied sculpting and fine art in Camberwell College of Arts in London, where she lived and worked for fourteen years. Karl studied architecture and design and lived and worked in Brazil before moving to Florence ten years ago. The duo met when they collaborated together on a project for Elio Ferraro Vintage in Florence. They quickly decided to partner and combine their interests and back-grounds.
Their own line is based mainly around soft products for the home such as pillows, aprons, laundry bags, table mats and runners, etc. They design all of their exclusive hand-made products with the highest quality fabric and pigments. In their studio, each product is thoroughly designed and con-structed from concept to a work of art. Both having histories in art, the line reflects their unique personalities, their nat-ural surroundings, the history and art in Florence and their experiences abroad. The use of colour, material and form are key elements the line.

LA SERRAThe greenhouse is attached to a palace built in the 15th Century and overlooks the attached garden. The greenhouse, or ‘la serra’ in Italian, was actually an addition to the palace. In the beginning of the 19th Century, the garden was re-modelled and the greenhouse was built. The garden became famous for the camellias culti-vated by Sofronia Stibbert during her residence in the palace.
Until the last six years the greenhouse was aban-doned and unused. Margherita and Karl sought after the space, attracted to its luminosity and openness. They had a vision nobody else could see as well as a rare opportunity. They say the months of labor and development of the studio space were some of the most fun. They wanted to make a creative space to work in.

Margherita Pandolfini, 37 anni, di Firenze. Disegna tessuti ispirati alla natura. La sua storia è a pag. 24.
