The 2008 National Human Development Planidentified high youth unemployment rates and thelack of decent work opportunities as the main reasonsfor Nicaraguan migration in the last decades.

those who studied in Nicaragua, even to become doctors, were notable to transfer that title and work as a doctor in the United States
they found clandestine clinics that aim to serve undocumented oruninsured Nicaraguans in places such as Miami

Nicaraguan population in the United States includes:
Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and in large cities
in Texas.
New immigrants speak little, if any, English.
Nicaraguans can get by not speaking English, since there is a
sense of Hispanic community in these states
As new Nicaraguan-American generations are born and raised
in the United States, their level of proficiency is increasing,leading to better, higher paying jobs.

CULTURE
The Nicaraguans are heavily concentrated in the Miamiarea and there is a small section of it known as "LittleManagua."
Their culture includes street food vendors that sell food
cooked on an open grill called aFritanga. Some national foods are tamales cooked inside a banana
lead and chorizo.
Most of the population isMestizo, which is a mixture ofEuropean ancestry and Amerindian.
Even after coming to the US, Nicaraguans embrace theirnational identity.
In December, they have church celebrations that honorVirgen de la Asuncion--the patroness of Nicaragua.
