welcome home.

Stone Designs is the story of its two creators (Cutu Mazuelos 1973 and Eva Prego 1974) who in September 1995 launched out on the adventure of creating their own studio, in order to develop their projects from a personal perspective, without censure or filters. For this reason they never worked for anyone else and they forged their apprenticeship as it was done in the past, from below and with much sacrifice. Thus they began doing interior designs, stands and displays. This field served them during the first years of their young career to experiment and study different languages, showing in this way a new way to understand design and our relation with it.

This position allows them to concentrate exclusively on what they do best, designing. It has left them time to take on projects of much greater depth and to work only with companies with which they truly feel affinity, without the size or billing mattering to them. From companies of friends that they love and admire for their dedication to designing premises for companies such as lexus, Telepizza, havaianas or Coca Cola and furniture for brands such as the Japanese Muji, the swedish offecct or the Spanish RS.

But the story of Stone Designs has not been a bed of roses at all. It is the story of two young people full of hope and desire to tell things in a different way. It is the incessant search for new languages, it is a journey to the heart of the people that surround them using as the means what they knew how to do best – design? No, tell real stories, from inside, sincere, fully of experiences, of crying of break ups, of problems and later on, of joy. It is their way of telling all of us how much our lives matter to them and that we can enjoy them in the most decent and comfortable way possible without too many things. They do not want to change the world or be the most popular, they simply try to reach our hearts and know that this trip takes much time and dedication for them.

In this very sincere way, they show themselves whenever they create something or give a conference with naturalness and overflowing energy, with unusual excitement for someone who has gone through so much to reach where they are now. They are like two persons that do not stop telling stories and talking of what they discover each day. They only try to make us see that life should not be as difficult as we sometimes try to make it, that there are millions of experiences that do not cost money and that it is there, in this simplicity and naturalness where originates the source that makes us happy.

fallAt last the air refreshes my throat which is dry from so much heat. Autumn’s arrived! This means that life becomes organised and hectic once again, and we feel so good we have to make the most of it. It’s a time for big and small projects, to use up all the energy we have accumulated during the summer, to convert it into new ideas and dreams. It is a time when we are as restless as the trees, which toss in the wind which blows away their leafy dresses. It is a time of ochre and crimson, and grey skies interspersed with rays of sunshine much pleas-anter than those of previous months.

many times, inspiration comes from the most domestic experiences, for example, when you are buying some fruit in the market, and you see a huge orange pumpkin and you think... i would like to sit on that!! :) that huge pumpkin let us dream of a soft surface where everyone will feel the warmth and the capricious colours and shapes of nature!!! and of course, as the halloween ones, our pumpkin is empty!!

bee seat

The Bee seating design represents a honeycomb. It symbolises the importance of teamwork. One individ-ual is capable of very little and, as it is the case in the beehive, success comes from teamwork among all the bees. Bee works in the same way, each seat depends directly on the one it is connected to, to keep upright. Furthermore, as it has an hexagonal shape, we can add on as many units as we want in either direction, making it adaptable to any space.

we collaborated once more with our friend pepa prieto!! and this time we have also collabo-rated with the design magazine pasajes diseño. we have created for them a free interpretation of the popular tale “three little pigs” you can see the three houses with the pigs and decora-tion painted by the great artist pepa!!

It is a more constructive and robust version of the Bee. We work with the same concept of the hon-eycomb, maintaining an idea which can grow as we desire in any direction, by connecting the pieces underneath. In contrast with the Bee, the Beeblock is designed for areas with more traffic or outside facilities.

to infinity and beyond!! (buzz lightyear)

shy family...shy... it´s not just a word, it´s an attitude that reflects the compromise to be quiet, discreet, simple and functional to make your life easier. Our day-to-day life is noisy and stressful enough, and all of us deserve some hours to share with our family or friends after a hard day. the shy collection, will remind you of your old days at school, or the weekends walking on the woods out of the city. it´s a chair for breakfast, a table for lunch and a stool for dinner. think on what you really need for your house and quickly in your mind will appear the shy chair. it be-longs to that kind of essentials out of the trends that dignify your life.

it´s been mixing two materials like oak wood and pipe tube, but giving them a new sense of flow. this concept makes the shy chair look as one piece, with a compact image and a durable structure that will serve you for many years.

Have you ever been bored in a class room, and found yourself trying to draw a house without taking the pencil off the paper?Well, this is the concept, familiar to many in which the “line house project” bases its ideas. The main objective is to create a liveable area, in which all the elements and the space distribution arise from one continuing form. Conditioned by the fact that it has to be a continuous space without interruptions and with a beginning and an end. This, as simple as it sounds, at the same time is equally complicated, with a profound depth into its development. To understand this project and its concept well, we have divided it in to three stages of creation. The first stage is the “concept”, here one only works with the “line” as a constructive and spacious ele-ment, and by this projection, creating a three-dimensional space. The second stage is the “project”. In this phase the idea has formed more, to create a greater under-standing, and it adds more elements on to the base that was created by the “line”.And finally the third stage, “the collection”, consists in the study of the several pieces and to find a solution for each individual piece to extract them from the project and put them into production. This way, what starts of as an exercise with a strong dose of conceptual design, materialises in to a collection of finished pieces.

on the road

it´s a blanket under the handlebar of my motorbike.

This bench is pure warmth in winter, discreet, functional and marvellously simple. Inspired by the travelling rugs that motorbikes carry beneath their front headlight during long trips and American furniture of the 50’s, it transports you to an empty road through the Arizona deserts and the nights in authentic dinners or a motel on Route 66. The elastics used to hold the cushion in place, in addition to being functional, allow two completely different concepts of the piece depending on the viewpoint.

cloudy chairthe cloudy chair was created after my trip to Romania. i spent there 5 days racing on the woods with my ktm 300, and it was constantly cloudy. It was wonderful to see how the clouds went everyday across the trees, and how the trees tried to find a pale sun ray above the clouds....

Maxipan is a bakery with a cafe area and its concept arises from the merge between Russian and Western European culture. This fusion is what we can call the new style of Russian design. The main idea was to emphasize the values of quality and warmth. So we managed to create a cosy place using decorative elements inspired by the Russian tradition and combined with ambient lighting which is a key factor to enhance and create small spaces. The bakery area is demarcate by a carved wooden roof inspired by the traditional Russian houses. For the counter we decided that the marble would provide the quality, weight and elegance necessary for the project. The cafe area was intended to contrast with the bakery area. It recreates a comfortable environment with a very faint and pleasant light .

The cold takes possession of the streets and the countryside, the seawater is colder than ever, and the ocean looks at you incredulously when you try to surf a wave. The days grow shorter, and the nights are endless. It is time to take stock and think about future projects, to look inside yourself, and stay at home. The grass is withered by the cold, and if you are lucky you can enjoy a blanket of snow which covers the whole countryside and the mountainsEveryone believes that winter is hostile. However, to me winter is pleasant, leisurely, peaceful and authentic. I’m sitting in the studio watching the rain, and how nobody wants to be outdoors. It’s the time of year when you are most sensitive, and open to your surroundings. It is the best time to design...

Tightthere`s not so much times where a project starts on an insignificant idea. but is in this case when you have to think that maybe that idea i more that it look like and try to develop to finally become a good project.this time we were thinking on a modular sofa, and how can we join the modules together, and then the belt appears as a joke to become on the centre of the idea and here is the result,a very special modular sofa where the textures, materials amd senses have a new meaning mixing warmth, cold and domestic references.

the sofa is done in three different parts and materials that we do not want to hide anything. we want to show the properties and textures of each one, having a world of different contrasts and colours, using a bute new wool fabrics contrasting with the aluminium structure and the leather belt that gives this domestic aspect that we are looking for.the belt is the center of the project ad the piece that let us to join the different modules and give the aspect of a set.

casper collectionThe Casper Collection is inspired by the classic horror films where the old rundown house has all its furniture covered in white sheets, allowing the viewer to take in just the shadow of the piece of furniture it is hiding and provoking a halo of mystery around a simple chair. What we have done is keeping the sheet, converting it into hard plastic and leaving the interior empty. In this way we arouse the interest in what is below this piece and what it hides in its physical form.

STREET

GALLERY

street gallery is a sneaker shop in madrid. the idea was to create a new typology of sneaker shop. Common shops have their exhibitors at 1.2 m high and you can walk around them and see the faces of other customers above them. in this case we have changed drastically this aspect. we want that people can only see the sneakers during their visit!! we have created the exhibitors at 1.7 m high so that you can see the sneakers and other customers’ feet under the wooden boxes, but not their faces.the shop represents the street of any city, where you can see the houses at the horizon. the floor has been done with the same concrete tiles that can be found in the streets of madrid. the walls have been done with recycled wood panels, looking for the warmth we need to feel comfortable.it’s not a noisy shop, it’s just a simple solution thinking of the users.

guerrilla containers

guerrilla containers

eva and me

These containers are shaped like the sandbags used in the trenches, and it is from that concept that they have derived their name. This is a piece with a dreamlike and conceptual character, which serves either as a container, space divider or as floor level seating. The Guerrilla Containers, designed and handsewn in the same way as coffee bags, are a reinterpretation of this warlike element, converting it into a domestic, intimate piece, which represents the desire to redefine something, originally so dramatic, as a common, welcoming object.

this picture means many things for us. while conflicts are destroying everything, a new life is com-ing and the illusion is growing... it’s the story of human race.

we tried to start the engine for the video, but it was impossible. it would have been so fun to drive all over the fields..

fields

The Fields sofa is based on the contrast found in the fields. It represents the partitions that are lost on the horizon when travelling along the open road, creating a collage with a thousand colours and different contrasts. This piece is comprised of fully independent modules, such that it can be set up as you wish, without any limitations, allowing you to join them together underneath using a few simple pieces of velcro, creating a completely flexible and robust piece of furniture.

finally the perfect project knocked our door!! after 20 years snowboarding, living for this sport that has given me everything in my life, two projects arrived to the studio for a ski resort, as you will understand when we received the or-ders from the group aramón we couldn’t believe it. it was the best conditions for stone designs to develop a project. we are not only talking about ideas inspired on nature, but in this case we would be immersed on it, and we will have the opportunity to be part of that nature that we missed in the big city.

last fall 09 we started collaborating with the aramon group, which manages several snow resorts in spain, and we have designed some restaurants for them.with this shelter what we were looking for was to make it being part of the landscape when it is completely covered by the snow, and to obtain this effect, we have used the same contrast that the surrounding trees show.

we have created a real shelter where a red line done with a rope breaks the white interior space. the benches and the tables are done in birch wood representing the old mountain shelters, but with some green paint details to be more dynamic.the lamps are done as fabric tiles to make the space warmer .

The new Project that we present to you is the Lapiaz restaurant in the Javalambre ski station in Teruel. Within the building by the architect José María Galve we have created a self-service restaurant and a chocolatería (a café serving hot chocolate as a speciality) where once again we have tried to made the customers the main protagonist, allowing them to enjoy the warm, welcoming space full of references to the surrounding mountains.

when you forget something in the forest, the power of nature always reminds me how small we are because, after some time, whatever we abandon there becomes part of this nature, and the trees embrace it as if they were welcoming it to this new world. it is amazing how the planet will forgive us everything we do. in this chair, the wood embraces the plastic seat combining two different technologies and becoming a new way of relation between high tech and our environment.

the usb device has the same measures as the typical key ring but converted on a pen drive that you willpersonalize.

it’s as simple as this, to become one of the most international key rings on a pen drive, mixing a very popular icon with the necessities of the new society. with this project we offer a new typology of usb storage device but combine with the traditional way to mark something or personalize your key ring. also the function of writing your name on it, avoid you confuse in the office with the rest of pen drives, or you never forget what are that keys of, or you can also put your favorite picture on it. we only understand that this kind of objects make more easy for the people to assimilate the progress.

corven sofathis is the same concept of the fields but warmer, the wrinkles make it more comfortable and the filling is also softer than the fields version. when you lie down you feel like when your mother covered you with a blanket. it’s great, specially in winter time.

we just try to create simple, useful and functional furniture. we already have madonna, michael jackson or many others for the show. we only want to make you feel comfortable at home, at the office.... everywhere. we are only designers, that’s all, nothing more than this, and we feel really proud of it. we try to make you smile, this is the best reward for our work.

this picture was taken last winter from a plane coming back to madrid from tokyo. it had been snowing all night and a white blanket covered the whole country. here you can see the volcanos and the deep valleys with some clouds flying free like cotton. i told you, japan is wonderful!! do you understand now where does inspiration come from?

japan

november 2004 was our first time in Japan. since then, we go to Japan twice or three times a year. for us it was one of the most important trips of our personal and professional life, because Japan is the most inspiring place in the world. We love Japanese habits, their culture, the landscapes, the respect for everything, the people, the politeness.... everything is different, and we interpret all this on our designs creating pieces with an oriental taste. here you can see how “Japan” won our hearts forever.

this is Stone´s Japanese experience!!

sakeSake in our case is not only a Japanese drink. The small barrels of this liquor give shape and inspiration to a collection that domesticates them and turns them into cosy pieces that are full of life.

tea watch

Inspired by the tea ceremony, we have created a watch that uses the tools of this typical Japanese tradition and brings them together on a little watch. In the project you can see the bowl, the tea brush in the little hands of the watch, and the tea powder in a very subtle green hand. With the kind of materials we suggest, we try to transmit the values of nature, and the love of the Japanese for nature. This is the reason why apart from plastic, we have suggested doing it in wood and cork. The best of this project is the simplicity and the cleanliness it has been done with.

frosty watchWe love when we wake up in winter and we look out of the window, and we see how the last night water drops have frozen in the leaves making those ephemeral crystals. This makes you take a deep breath of fresh air that allows you to bear the rest of the day happier and more relaxed, because you know that they will disappear quickly but they will be back next morning. Inspired on this moment, we have designed the frosty watch, like a watch with a drop of frosty water covering the hands and the machinery, where you can see through the glass but not totally clear, just like frozen water.

Japan is not just a country, it’s not just its culture, its values, its people... japan for us is a constant source of inspiration. In this case we have seen this picture and we would love to turn it into a real project, where we can show all the poetry and the beauty of this garden with the only contrast of the umbrella. We have done the japan watch as a game where its hands only appear as a line for a moment, and the rest of the time, they look as if they have nothing to do between them. This is the most beautiful aspect of the project, finding the perfect shape just for a few seconds and after that loosing it again till the next hour...

japan watch

In the end the project represents something as simple as the light, which, on the other hand, is one of the variables that most influences our perception of landscape, and it is the responsible of filling our environment with life, colours and contrast. The same space seen at different day times or even in different seasons of the year, it changes completely. This is how, depending on the model, they decided to create one inspired by the pale morning light. This is the IS model, designed in blue and gray shades, as a sky extension, with the dashboard in white. This was something really bold for Lexus because they had never dared to make white interiors as they were afraid that would provoke awkward reflections. However, this was exactly what Cutu and Eva were looking for, that the light fills up the interior making the user wake up slowly so he can feel the light, mixed up with dewdrops from a slow dawn, caressing his face.

is in sunRISE

lexusThis project was specifically conceived for the ‘Colour and Trim’ Department, which is in charge of designing the different finishes, upholsteries, colours, etc. In this case, they were looking for a new typology for the vehicles’ interiors in which the finishes, colours and textures could create a new line that covered a target audience that at that time was not covered by Lexus. Discovering the L-finesse concept was certainly a great satisfaction for Eva and Cutu because the values and concepts included in it, together with its conception of luxury, were completely similar to the Stone Designs’ philosophy.

What surprised most to the Lexus team from Eva and Cutu’s work was their ability to conceptualise the project and to create a storyline that showed perfectly their philosophy without mentioning or paying attention to purely aesthetic values. One of the biggest differences when working in this sector is that, for instance, Lexus used to design the interiors like separate elements, that is, creating first a combination of colours and upholstery for the passenger’s front seat that afterwards would be cloned in the driver’s and in the passenger’s back seat.

Eva and Cutu do not understand that way of designing, and they bet for treating the car’s interior like a global space in which we can have many different experiences and receive a lot of stimulus. This is why they could not work on isolated elements of a common space. They managed to make the experience start the moment the user gets in his car and enters the ignition key. This way, the interior is not an isolated space in the environment but, instead, the landscape pours it out merging the space so that the user can perceive what happens around him much more intensely, turning the travelling experience not necessarily into something spectacular or exciting, but into something always authentic.

RX in sunSHINEThe RX model is inspired by midday, when the light falls more vertical and it lets us enjoy a lush colour burst in the landscape, where the shadows are scarcely perceptible and the flowers shine in the countryside like the stars in a night sky. For this reasons, and also for its more adventurous character, the interior was designed adding the red colour, like an evocative element in a field full of flowers. Red was not used in a massive way; it was rather mixed up with beige shades to confer it a brighter aspect and to transmit the user a joyful feeling that may help him face the new day with a more positive attitude..

GS in sunsetThe GS model. This is the one in which it can be seen more clearly the concept of working globally in the vehicle’s interior. If we have a look at the seats, they are upholstered asymmetrically, but this effect disappears when they are looked at as a whole, because you can quickly realise that they keep a symmetry all together, as a whole, but not looking at each element separately. This model is inspired by the sunset light, specifically by the moment when you are driving and you take your sunglasses off to enjoy the kind orangey face of the sun that seems to reconcile with the user after a long journey. To remark this effect, this colour has been interpreted like an orange light that covers the car at the back, as if the last sun shines painted the brown leathered front seatbacks from the back windscreen, and the sun embraced their sides, remembering us that the next day it will come back again to fill with light and energy our simple lives.

And finally the three models were launched on august 26 2010under a limited stone designs edition!!!

singles

Muji asked us to develop a project for single people that live in very small apartments and do not have much money for the furniture. we decided to work with pipe tube because it’s cheap and allows us to create a complete collection for these small houses, with a very harmonious image.

typical japanese apartment, it’s around 12 m2 !!!!

in japan you have to take into account how to use the walls without hanging anything because they are too thin to be drilled. so, in order to have shelves on the desk, we have created a frame where you can hang different items and use this storage space without drilling the wall.

the tv set works the same way as the desk, you can change the shelves between them and make different combinations.

the sofa has two versions, one large with an armrest that it is at the same time the headboard of the bed, and a small version more simple without the armrest and the side table.we have made a modular bed to keep under the mattress the plastic boxes that muji is selling actually at its shops.

the coat hanger works as a hanger and as a lamp. you can take out the lamps and fix it in any other part of the house

the suit hanger is also modular and you can rotate its parts to find the final position you need

As its name indicates, it is inspired by Origami figures, an art where the paper is not cut in any way, just folded until it gives the desire shape. The Origami lamp is based on an initial steel fold to which we have made further folds, achieving a support mechanism by which the bulb is literally suspended without any form of bracket or anchorage. Furthermore, the lamp is based on such a thin fold that it creates an oscillating effect, like the grass when moved by wind.

The traditional japanese money trays inspired us to create a wood tray where you will leave your cell phone or coins during the night, the idea is that you wake up every morning feeling the texture of the natural oak wood in your hand.

radio

the first sketches nothing have to do with the final result but the concept has been shown from the beginning

it is a clean white block inspired by a friendly morning light.

it is a clean white block inspired by a friendly morning light.

when the alarm clock radio is switched on, you will see under the translucent plastic the numbers or song information. the oak tray makes this piece warmer and becomes a new cathegory of product where nature appears as the main character.

every morning you push the oak tray to stop the alarm or snooze, and a cold morning gesture becomes a beautiful and warm experience because the first thing you feel every morning is the natural oak in your hand.

tradition commitmentnature

in this case, muji asked us about a new project to change their existing stationery areas in their shops for a new concept that let them continue being the leader in this category.we had to create a concept that shows the authenticity and the real values of the muji spirit. in this way we were inspired by three concepts that let us create a new typology of exhibitor, keeping the concepts of functionality and simplicity.

STATIONERY AREAS FOR THE MUJI

SHOPS.

*nature japan is one of the countries with most volcanic activity in the world, having wonderful black sand landscapes which remind you that japan is boiling under your feet, this makes you feel alive and part of a nature that is constantly changing.

*commitmenteverything you do in your life comes back to you in a different way. the commitment of a responsible consumption, is the only path we have to walk for a better future. we have to create a "close circle consumption" where all the resources we use to create the products are just the beginning of eternal-life items.

*tradition tradition understood as a trip to the past, recovering the icon of the first stationery items from 1989, using the same material to show the value of the good quality products.

some sketches of the process where you will see the evolution and details of every elements that compose the final result.

we use the table archetype because we think that stationery has to be exhibited on its natural space, and nothing better than a table! it is an icon that everyone connects with stationery items, and at the same time keeps the simplicity and functionality we need.the lamp gives us warmth and becomes an item that everyone will recognize where the stationery area is.

*tradition. the structure and legs are made on aluminium like the first muji pencil. *nature. the top of the table is done in black mdf with a very similar texture to the black sand and the covers of muji notebooks. *commitment. because we use a modular system containers made on recycled paper that means muji is committed with the environment.

the paper boxes can be removed from the holes and changed for a mdf boards becoming a long table.

the collection of containers has the shape and form that let you exhibit the different items on a perfect place, we also designed standard ones for unusual products.

the paper boxes can be removed from the holes and changed for a mdf boards becoming a long table.

in conclusion, we think the stationery areas have to be more domestic and conceptual keeping the functional values but thinking in the quality of the exhibition, not only in its quantity.

In Japan, the ginkgo tree is venerated. Several ginkgo trees survived the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 and continue to live today. For this reason, the trees are considered a ''bearer of hope'' and a symbol of resilience and peace on the island nation.

That is why the distinctive fan-shaped ginkgo leaf is a popular motif in Japanese art and is used in the logos of the city of Tokyo and railway logo companie Toei.

Here is the result, a repeatable element that will shape on thousands of different combinations, as elegance as japanese love to do everything. We love the traditional japanese pictures, where they use their cultural icons to compose their landscapes!!!

spain alightTokyo Designer’s Week 2011

Spainalight originates from an environment in which light acts as the protagonist, and how it forges the character of Spanish design. An entirely new concept, an exhibition space where large areas of light are mixed, giving life to this collection. A space that praises Spanish designer’s diversity and in turn, increases their value. An exhibition where the visitor’s interaction will take on new meaning, and who in turn, become the true main characters of this event, allowing you to enjoy and perceive with all your senses, the quality and passion that the Spanish stamp on their products.Light has provided our own language for both creators and manufacturers alike, light that each day reminds us that we can shine stronger and that those using our products deserve such effort; and light from the dusk reminds in a gentle way that it is worth working towards tomorrow, offering better products and new solutions every day.

We still don’t know if the concept of using Matryoshka dolls came first, or maybe it was the idea of using the archetype of a mountain house, but the thing is that, in the end, both ideas merged and they resulted in the project that you are about to see.The idea was to create simple volumes that share the same characteristics with the landscape and represent a living architecture, built with the materials provided by nature and making the most of all its qualities, allowing the user to feel its power and purity. The commitment with the fact that everything must have a purpose has resulted in a building full of suggestive atmospheres, extremely functional, which plays with customers’ senses, in a not at all traditional way given this kind of architecture. The idea of creating different “little houses” in which ones get into the others has allowed us to design a unique set of volumes in the landscape. These volumes sometimes remind us of a forest and other times represent a wink to the autochthonous architecture. In this particular way, we are sure that the visitor will by absolutely captivated by the different options and services offered by the building and that it will arouse in him a new way of understanding winter resorts’ catering.

seraphitainspired on the landscapes during the four seasons we have develop this project for a shoes franchise. it is as simple that you will think that it`s naked, we just want to make a sensorial path where the user will feel different sensations including the smell, touch, wonderful colours and textures for your eyes. as a franchise we want it could be very flexible and we have done just a box where the walls are painted on a neutral gray to contrast with the warm and so natural oak wood that you will find in the walls and floor, small trees where a beautiful fabric flowers grow up from the walls to give you the sensation of different landscapes depending of the fabric colours.

the lamp will be orientated with a very simple mechanism that allows to decide the light direction.

we really love enamel metal lamps and objects, also because they are disappearing from the market. with this lamp we try to give a new interpretation inspired by the old enamel cups that we used in our old days in the scouts giving it a new use taken from that wonderful old days.

this shelving system is inspired by the old incas walls, which they built with a magnificent perfection, creating wonderful rock puzzles. our piece combines the hi-tech. with the old incas concept. we have four different module sizes that allow to keep on 4 by 4 on the same box, and, at the same time, when you compose them together, you have a piece very dynamic and versatile.

here you see the basic combination, and another one with 16 modules.

The best part of the whole year is seeing how everything comes to life again after a cold winter. The days suddenly become longer, and a gentle and pleasant sun enters through the studio windows, little by little bathing our tables with a pale light. Plants and animals slowly emerge from their winter lethargy. Some of the quickest to do so are the almonds, which are already flowering by the end of February, forgetting, as they do every winter, that the cold is not yet over and that in a few days´ time their flowers will be strewn on the ground after a late snowfall. They don’t seem to learn, but I’m not criticising them, it’s only natural that the first signs of life and light make us want to reach out to others to share the moment. It is a time for socialising, for being with people, with friends…it is a time for listening to them and understanding them, because, after all, the winter has been long, hard and solitary…especially solitary. It is one of the best times for creation, because you can talk to anyone about their life, the weather, work etc in a way that makes it easier to give them answers that help them live their lives better.

spr ing

can make different combinations depending on the space available.

the ymedia village.

This project for the Ymedia offices has been one of the greatest challenges we have ever faced, not only for its size but also because the three different companies that make up the group (Ymedia, Wink and Yperform) had their own needs, different from the rest. Two principles ruled the project from the beginning: “the staff well-being has a direct impact in the success of the company” and “all the people that work there have to feel at home”. A detail that reflects these principles is the wall of pictures that can be found at the reception. It has been done with pictures sent by the employees, which evoke something inspiring for them, and this makes them feel indispensable in their great team.

We have also used a small material range in order to have a coherent and simple vision, and working with the colour in an intelligent way, always from its most emotive side, we obtain a warm and friendly interior in which everyone, regardless their position, feels at home. Natural oak is the predominant material, which confers the office this aspect of a cabin, and combined with intense-colour fabrics, shows us how nature overwhelm Ymedia offices. Both the furniture and the interior architecture have a clear landscape inspiration. They recreate with the table dividers a horizon that disappears at dusk, or in the case of the directors’ offices, a small village in which they live together with their teams in a natural, easy going, close and modest way. Maybe one of the best qualities of this project is that the functional aspect has gone always together with the most emotive aspect, making together a unique, comfortable and long-lasting place.

Sharp chairwe love mount biking, and for a long time we have been fascinated by hydroform frames and their properties.but, apart from these fantastic qualities, the best thing is the wonderful shapes you can have with this manufacturing technique, where a simple tube becomes a fantastic and organic piece, where all this beauty becomes function thanks to its stiffness.the final result is just using two different technologies inspired by a natural gesture as simple as sharping a pencil or a stick, a gesture where you will find an answer to create a very solid and strong chair but incredibly light!!!

its shape, light and stiff, reminds us of a carved branch or a sharp pencil.

a casual dining restaurants company asked us to redesign their interiors. they already had some elements we had to maintain on the new project, but we tried to give it a new sense. we have used some cinematography items as a reference, but always looking for something really timeless. we have used the popcorn packages, the clapperboard and the wooden structure of and old cinema studio.

Together with its wooden version, we should highlight that this is one of the pieces we are most proud of. It is such a simple concept that it required a large prototypal process to obtain the result we were looking for. It is a bookshelf which functionally strives to achieve some form of gradient so that the books are always tidy and allow a certain level of movement. But at the same time, it is comprised of 40x40cm modules which are repeated as many times as necessary to achieve the desired size. As a modular piece, we can also add different colours as we wish, making our bookshelf unique. The interplay between the shelves and how they support each other gives rise to a highly architectural end product, a natural response to its support system.

we designed the palet sofa for a company that exclusively manufactures sofa beds. i remember the day we received the sofa’s structure, i really couldn’t believe it!! it was like a monster!! something really enormous!! in fact we had little leeway, so we decided to work on its sides and create a piece inspired by the traditional pallets where all the elements had to be inside the wood structure.with this solution, we have created a very versatile piece in which the user will be able to decide among different combinations, different armrest’s heights, having a side table or a magazine rack.

petalsi love flowers...because they keep a wonderful secret inside, because under the colorful petals it's the secret of creation, the treasure of a little space where their future is under a beautiful shape to seduce and make let them exist for generations.

petals means the privacy and warmth of the interior, creating a micro space where you will feel safe and relax with a cup of tea or maybe having an easy chat in the hotel's lobby

telepizza

this project was inspired by the american dinners restaurants. we want to make people have fun and to be happy. we designed for the walls these wooden pieces that create a warm atmosphere and they are really easy to assemble, and they can also be used to put some ads on them.

the front office is an old style drive to catch your attention all the time. we play a lot with the light effects and with american icons such as neon lights and big banners.

once more we designed the whole furniture for the project. the tables, the bench, the trash can and even the trays!!

prototype of the restaurant

the project involved making a pouffe that could be used as an auxiliary seat for home or for contract projects. it´s a project that keeps inside the simplicity of a piece that doesn’t want to be the main character, which wants to adapt to any ambience whitout making any noise.its particular upholstery shows us its fanciful shape, that allows us to make thousands of different combinations very easily, because it doesn’t have any mechanic part.we have created these rubber “cherries” to keep them together very easily.

cherry cake

rita chairwoodRita is rough, Spartan, light and round. It doesn’t have anything to hide, it is completely sincere and as transparent as water, it is like a shout of “enough” to superfluous pieces whose only aim is to inflate their creator’s ego. Rita says why do more than strictly necessary, that is the secret of her beauty; that the shape is simply the result of a carefully worked constructive process. It is an exceedingly simple collection. Its beauty radiates from the extreme simplicity of its manufacturing without conceding to the ornamental and the fusion of wood and metal, allowing this to penetrate the very heart of the wood, seeing a line drawn by the leg section on the upper part of the seat and drowning the wooden top in colour.

it’s a bar located in a small village supported by orange fields. inspired by this concept we have proposed a bar where the orange juice flood all over the floor and comes up till the middle of the wall.the rest of the shapes are inspired by the orange trees,

atwork

the straps sofa is a sofa inspired by the shape of potatoes. The only thing we have done is to take a soft sofa and put two straps to give it the shape you see in the pictures. it is very cheap to produce and it is really comfortable.

meal solutions it´s not fast food. it´s healthy and good food!!

we wanted to transmit health, fresh and home food. the project is inspired by the birch woods from finland or norway. we have created a particular forest for the dining room, where people will be able to almost hear the birds...

detail of the front office. done with compact wood tiles in white colour to keep a very clean image.

view of the refrigerators and the tables.

once again we have designed the whole furniture for the project. the stools are inspired by tupperwares. the ceiling comes down to separate the ambiences without architectural elements.

i love airports. an airport is a place that makes me feel free, when i see on the monitors all those places where i could go to. it´s also a place to think on your projects... you always have to wait hours and hours seeing people from everywhere passing in front of you. it’s like the babel tower...

bon voyage

This is a shelf designed to represent an aeroplane wing. A piece which has great decorative presence on its own without a need for further ornamentation. The tip of the wing comes a few centimetres away from the wall, invading in some way the area it occupies, coming to form part of this space.

the flavor of the old New York has landed in the Ecko Unltd flagship store in Madrid.the origin of the brand was during the late eighties with a short collection of 6 t-shirts based on the graffiti and hip hop culture.in this case we wanted to show in the shop the taste of the old NYC, but with the evolution of an established brand that becomes a giant during this two decades.one more time we just use a few material to transmit the concept using the painted OSB boards that reminds us the typical NY street and at list, the only structure that survive for years, the scaffolds that you will find all around the city. we have redefined this apparently chaos city on a white cool space, keeping the disorder from the best NY.

blow

the blow shelf is one of those pieces that makes you think on the power of shape. apparently the windmill’s shape is just functional to make the shelves moving, but we have used this shape to make a total modular shelving system, that with a small balance it has all the books strighten up. and the best thing is that if you use it in a different position, you will have a horizontal shelf, as the normal ones.

in the woods

israel and me after the first day race.

this September i was competing with two friends (israel and harriet) at the red bull romaniacs, the world’s hardest enduro rally. it consisted of 5 days riding in the carpathians, you wouldn’t believe how beautiful they are. the woods, the rivers, the mountains.... when you get into the woods you have to switch on your light because it’s completely dark.when you step on the ground, you fall on a bed of leaves that comes up to your knees... it’s simply incredible how the nature can take you and make you feel so small. Definitely, the carpathians is one of those places where i would love to live in.

nomad

house

the living room has been conceived like a forest. you can see that there are trees in all the walls. this atmosphere transports me to all those places i love. even the shelf is a 3d tree because we do not want anything to disturb us from the relax we have at home.

this is my house, we called it nomad house because all the rooms and pieces have wheels and can be moved all around the house. it’s very simple, we installed electric plugs on the ceiling to have electricity without cables on the floor. it’s like living in the woods, we have our own trees, fields etc. all rooms are separated by a Nordic quilt that makes them warm and clean. if you open these quilts, you’ll have one common space with different floor levels.

the kitchen is like a laboratory where anything could happen. in the middle of the kitchen there’s a yellow island that represents the centre of the house, it’s like a ship in balance.

the refrigerator, the microwave and the washing machine are also in a box so they can be moved when you need to.

the sleeping room is in front of the dressing room. the bed head works as a side table and also as a separation element. here you can also see the structure and the quilts hanged on the pipe tube structure.

nenufarwater lily

It is so obvious, that it almost does not need to be explained. Its name makes it clear where the idea came from, once more we have been inspired by the nature that surrounds us and in it we find the most beautiful shapes. It would be of little merit to use such a perfect shape as that of the water lily to simply convert it into a table. However, the plant did everything for us, we simply had to draw it with our eyes closed and it came about, immediately baptised with the name water lily

sunset

The base colours of the Sunset are not left to chance. They are the direct result of its inspiration. Sunset is the setting of the sun seen through a window. Sunset, like the last light of the day, is lost in different directions through the telescopic shelves which break the physical frontier created by the window, streaming in a uncontrolled manner, because there are some things in life which must be let run free, like our imagination.

The summer! Welcomed by many, though I personally don’t really like it. The heat is unbearable, the sun becomes unpleasant, and its light is all-penetrating, burning the countryside. It is a time to visit more favourable climes, where at least you have time to think without being burnt by a scorching sun. To me, the summer is the end of the year. It is the apocalypse of ephemeral lives, which eventually kills and burns everything that lives on the earth. It is a time when animals and plants make haste to finish their tasks before the cold winter arrives. It is a time to rest and rejuvenate your body in readiness for a hard year of trips, projects and work.

the travel globe is a new concept of globes. we always try to make people interact with the products, and once again, we have tried to make people use the globe to put their notes and mark with small plastic flags the different countries they are going to visit or the ones they have already visited. it’s a nice way to show everyone the countries or cities you have been to. it has been done in cork to transmit an ecological message to people and to invite them to respect the only planet we have. it´s like a 3d cork panel!!!

LAmoragaLamoraga, that place in which we can be at ease having a drink with our friends. that tapas bar where you can feel its simplicity, its mediterranean inspiration, in an atmosphere of quality, fusion and a strong committment with the principle of making something extraordinary of everyday things, where the visitor is and feels the epicentre of a gastronimic universe in which he can taste the most traditional spanish cuisine mixed with such far culture as the japanese one.

lamoraga represents a gastronomic poem in which the space must be, without any doubt, the link that ows the visitor to have an extraordinary experience in which he uses his 5 senses creating a unique universe, recognizable, clear and, above all, simple and pure. we need to create an environment that makes us feel as if we were at the beach, waiting calmly for the sunset, enjoying the range of shades that make of this experience something unforgettable. this is how the interior design has to give an answer to all The ideas that dani garcía puts in his tapas menus. therefore, the place only has to show and talk about lamoraga in order to emphasize its flavours, its scents and its textures..

a furniture collection that allows us to recreate all the atmospheres we need, without resorting to the standard architectural constructions. a series of pieces in which we can work mixing all the blue tonalities from lamoraga, with the warmth that the wood and the upholstery confer to the place.

a furniture collection that responds not only to Emotional criteria but also that solves all the needs of any place. these are pieces that speak their own language and that will help to boost the brand image both at national and international levels.

havaianas

the havaianas concept store wants to express that in brazil is always summer!! the power of their culture, their colours, their traditions and their people, that’s the best of brazil... havaianas makes the most famous sandals in the world, and they are the only ones done in rubber from the rubber trees. this is the reason why we thought that we needed to show this natural values in their stores. havaianas doesn’t mean only brazil, it also means ecology, quality and know-how from more than 40 years making the best sandals in the world.
