WEEKLY PICKS CONTEST… Here we go players—make your picks:

Starmont vs Oriole Boys Lisbon vs Calamus-Wheatland Boys Iowa State Men vs Texas A&M Southern Illiniois vs UNI Men For the tie-breaker, how many points will both Springville and Alburnett score in Friday nights girls game? Here’s what you do—Make your picks and predict your tie breaker, then email us at [email protected] Players kept the string alive this week as once again it came down to a tie breaker—plenty were 3 of 4 in their picks including some new players like Bryce Wilson and Rylee Menster. Returning players like Cavanaugh Riley, Joe Martin and Robin Menster were also 3 of 4 but no one nailed the tie breaker like Robin did - Cam Newton totaled 4 TD’s last week and that was Robin’s prediction so she is this weeks winner— Thanks for playing and have a great week!

ORIOLE BOYS COMPETING HARD—LOOKING FOR A WIN

The last win the boys team picked up was a thriller against Central City just before the Holiday break. Tuesday the boys made a visit to the Wildcats gym hoping to pull off a sweep against the conference foe. The game was a tight one throughout with the lead never exceeding four points. Springville had its opportunities in the closing seconds to steal the win but the buckets just didn’t fall and Central City earned the victory, 46-42. Tuesday’s loss came on the heels of losses last week at Bellevue Marquette on Friday (69-40) and at home against Midland Saturday (57-45). The O’s sit at 4-11 overall and 3-6 in Tri-Rivers Conference play. Friday will send the boys to Alburnett for a battle with the 6-3 Pirates and they’ll return home to host Starmont (3-10) in a non-conference game on Saturday. Let’s go O’s! (Pictured right is Senior Jacob Loehr contesting a shot at Central City on Tuesday)

DID YOU KNOW? Saturday morning will be the 6th annual Charity Stripe Contest/Fundraiser in Machovec Gymnasium. The Oriole girls basketball team hosts the annual event to raise money for “Kids Against Hunger”. For five dollars you can shoot 25 free throws, winners will be awarded based upon age group. You can shoot, you can sponsor a player to shoot or you can make a donation. All funds will go toward purchasing food packs that will be assembled at a later date in February and disbursed across the world. The girls have set a goal of 20,000 food packages—Let’s Go O’s!!!

THE FAMOUS AMONG US—OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT… Every now and then I catch a glimpse of a Springville player, parent or super fan and I can’t help but do a double take because they remind me of a certain someone. This week we look at Oriole Junior, JP Kane. The basketball player is a dead ringer for Redskin Head Coach Jay Gruden! Wouldn’t you agree? You tell me, who is who here?
