WARNINGRead this entire manual and all other publications pertaining to the work to beperformed before installing, operating, or servicing this equipment. Practice allplant and safety instructions and precautions. Failure to follow instructions cancause personal injury and/or property damage.

The engine, turbine, or other type of prime mover should be equipped with anoverspeed shutdown device to protect against runaway or damage to the prime

mover with possible personal injury, loss of life, or property damage.

The overspeed shutdown device must be totally independent of the prime movercontrol system. An overtemperature or overpressure shutdown device may also beneeded for safety, as appropriate.

CAUTIONTo prevent damage to a control system that uses an alternator or battery-chargingdevice, make sure the charging device is turned off before disconnecting thebattery from the system.

Electronic controls contain static-sensitive parts. Observe the following

precautions to prevent damage to these parts.• Discharge body static before handling the control (with power to the control

turned off, contact a grounded surface and maintain contact while handling thecontrol).

    • Avoid all plastic, vinyl, and Styrofoam (except antistatic versions) aroundprinted circuit boards.

    • Do not touch the components or conductors on a printed circuit board withyour hands or with conductive devices.

IMPORTANT DEFINITIONSWARNING—indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, couldresult in death or serious injury.

CAUTION—indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, couldresult in damage to equipment.

Wiring Differences between the2301 Series and 2301A (9905 Series)

    Load Sharing and Speed Control

Woodward’s 2301A (9905 Series) Load Sharing and Speed Control looks like thefamiliar 2301 and 2301A (8272 Series). It was designed as a direct replacementfor the 2301 series in both application and operation and can even be combinedwith the 2301 series in the same system.

The 2301 Series includes both the single module 2301 control and the fourmodule 2301 panel assembly.

The 2301A is an entirely new control, however, designed for superiorperformance and durability in all operating environments. It’s advanced circuitrysimplifies wiring installation and provides maximum protection from outsideinfluences (including human error).

    Wiring Comparisons

This new circuitry requires some wiring connections that differ from the 2301series. These differences must be observed for proper operation. The 2301Awiring connections that differ from the 2301 series are listed below and shown onthe following pages. Wiring for both the 2301A and 2301 series are shown forcomparison.

Woodward application engineers are always available to assist you in selectionof the correct control for your system, or to answer questions concerning controlinstallation, operation, or calibration. Contact information for all Woodwardlocations is on our website (www.woodward.com).
