And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. (Matthew 10:29)

We spend so much time and effort being afraid. Some fear a past they

cannot change or a future they cannot predict. Others fear what people are thinking or saying about them. There is fear of heights, the dark, spiders, loneliness, etc. But one of the constant messages of Scripture is, "fear not!" And paying attention to why we are not to be afraid is an exercise in spiritual maturity.

We live in a world that can be hostile to the Gospel, and we all have our daily burdens and struggles. But Christ's presence among us, God's grace overflowing, is there to give us strength, courage, and fortitude. Through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we have the ability to pray for these gifts, that we might stand up not only to defend the faith, but to be strong in the face of any obstacles and suffering in our life of faith.

Today is the start of summer and the longest day of the year. It is an opportunity to see anew how the light of the sun, and God's Son, can guide us out of the darkness of fear. As the things of the earth mature in this season, so can we mature in our spiritual life. It is the perfect occasion for us to walk a new path with and for the Lord, trusting in God and fearing no one. (Excerpts from Daily Homilies for Sunday and Weekday Masses, Lansing, Michigan)

For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many. (Rom 5:15)

"Y no tengan miedo de los que matan el cuerpo pero no pueden matar el alma; más bien, tengan miedo de quien puede destruir el alma y el cuerpo en Gehenna". (Mateo 10:29)

Pasamos mucho tiempo y esfuerzo teniendo miedo. Algunos temen un pasado que no pueden cambiar o un futuro que no pueden predecir. Otros temen lo que la gente está pensando o diciendo acerca de ellos. Hay miedo a las alturas, a la oscuridad, a las arañas, a la soledad, etc. pero uno de los mensajes constantes de la Escritura es: "¡No temas!", Y prestar atención a porqué no debemos tener miedo es un ejercicio de maduréz espiritual.

Vivimos en un mundo que puede ser hostil al Evangelio, y todos tenemos nuestras cargas y luchas diarias. Pero la presencia de Cristo entre nosotros, la gracia de Dios desbordante está ahí para darnos fuerza, valor y fortaleza. Por medio de la efusión del Espíritu Santo, tenemos la capacidad de orar por estos dones, para que podamos levantarnos no sólo para defender la fé, sino para ser fuertes frente a cualquier obstáculo y sufrimiento en nuestra vida de fé.

Hoy es el comienzo del verano y el día más largo del año. Es una oportunidad para ver de nuevo cómo la luz del sol y el Hijo de Dios, pueden guiarnos fuera de las tinieblas del miedo. A medida que las cosas de la tierra maduran en esta época, también podemos madurar en nuestra vida espiritual. Es la ocasión perfecta para que caminemos por un nuevo camino con y para el Señor, confiando en Dios y sin temor a nadie. The Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Baby Bottle Drive starting July 4th and running thru Labor Day (September 6). You are asked to pick up your baby bottles after Mass and fill them with your loose change. Please only 1 baby bottle per family. Thank you!
