Una de cada tres mujeres en el mundo será objeto de vio-lencia física o sexual en algún momento de su vida. Recor-dado por el Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas en su mensaje por el 25 de noviembre de 2014, este dato nos coloca ante una dura realidad: ningún país del mundo está libre de un fenómeno que tiene sus raíces más profundas en la cultura patriarcal.
Hace apenas 15 años que Naciones Unidas declaró el 25 de noviembre como Día Internacional para la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer, y suman seis desde que el SG Ban ki-moon lanzara la Campaña ÚNETE para poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres, con el fin de aumentar la conciencia pública, los recursos y las respuestas ante esta problemática global.
Mucho se ha hecho en este tiempo y no son pocos los desafíos que nos quedan. A las puertas del 2015, cuan-do celebramos los 20 años de la Plataforma de Acción de Beijing y avanzaremos hacia una nueva Agenda para el Desarrollo, esta Memoria de la Campaña ÚNETE Cuba nos muestra el camino recorrido durante 12 meses de intenso trabajo conjunto con una amplia diversidad de actores na-cionales y locales.
Aquí están las acciones que hemos acompañado, desde las diferentes agencias del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas, en los sectores jurídico, de la salud y la educación, así como en comunidades urbanas y rurales de todo el país. Están también aquellos esfuerzos que han contado con la contri-bución sustantiva de ONU Mujeres y el aporte de la Agencia Suiza para el Desarrollo y la Cooperación y de la Embajada de Noruega.
En nombre del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas y en el mío propio, agradezco a esas mujeres y hombres, artistas y deportistas, líderes comunitarios, estudiantes de las uni-versidades, especialistas y representantes de instituciones, organizaciones, proyectos y redes, que han sumado sus energías y capacidades para hacer posible estas Rutas de la No violencia.
En este último año de la Campaña ÚNETE, sigamos celebrando el Día Naranja el 25 de cada mes, y llevemos nuestro compromiso a todos los días, a todos los espacios y más allá del 2015. Hagamos de la igualdad de género y la no violencia contra las mujeres una prioridad en la nueva hoja de ruta para el desarrollo

One out of three women in the world will be subjected to physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives. This fact, brought up by the United Nations Secretary General in his message for November 25th, 2014, reveals a harsh reality: no country in the world is free of this phenomenon, which has its deepest roots in patriarchal culture.
Fifteen years ago the United Nations declared November 25th as the International Day to End Violence Against Women, and in 2008, Secretary General Ban ki-moon launched the “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls” Campaign to raise public awareness, increase resources, and provide greater responses to this worldwide social issue.
Much has been done during these six years; however, we still have to face many challenges. In 2015 we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Action Platform and move forward towards a new Agenda for Development. This Report on the UNiTE Cuba Campaign reflects the intense joint efforts carried out during the past 12 months by the UN in close collaboration with a wide diversity of national and local actors.
Here we set out all of the actions the UN has sup-portedthrough different agencies of the United Nations System in Cuba in the legal, health and education sectors, as well as in urban and rural communities nation wide. Other efforts listed have been supported substantially by UN-Women, with contributions from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Embassy Norway in Cuba.
On behalf of the United Nations System and myself, I thank those women and men, artists and athletes, community leaders, university students, specialists and representatives of institutions, organizations, projects and networks who have joined energies and capabilities to make these Roads to Non-Violence possible.
During this last year of the UNiTE Campaign, let us keep celebrating Orange Day on the 25th of each month, and keep taking our commitment everyday to every space possible, including beyond 2015. Let us make gender equality and non-violence against women a priority on the new road map to development.

El 28 de febrero de 2008, el Secretario General de las Nacio-nes Unidas, Ban ki-moon, lanzó la campaña global “ÚNETE para poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres”, en respues-ta a un consenso internacional que se había ido formando alrededor de la necesidad de enfrentar un problema de am-plio alcance social y serias consecuencias para la población femenina, las familias, las comunidades y las naciones.
Dirigida a los gobiernos, a la sociedad civil, al sector empresarial, a los medios de comunicación y al propio Sistema de las Naciones Unidas, ÚNETE se extiende hasta 2015 buscando alinear sus resultados con los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio, como un reconocimiento a los múlti-ples nexos existentes entre la promoción de la igualdad de género y el desarrollo.
En respuesta a este llamado, ÚNETE Latinoamérica se puso en marcha en noviembre de 2009 a partir de la iden-

Iniciativas como la invitación a celebrar el Día Naranja, el 25 de cada mes, o “El valiente no es violento” para el tra-bajo con hombres, han propiciado el activismo de mujeres y hombres de todas las edades, comunidades urbanas y rurales, artistas, deportistas y otros líderes no tradiciona-les, con una creciente incidencia en los medios de comuni-cación y redes sociales.
En su tercera edición, “Rutas de la No violencia” centra la mirada en el camino recorrido por la Campaña ÚNETE en Cuba durante todo el año 2015 con el mensaje personali-zado de “Yo digo NO a la violencia contra las mujeres”, a partir de los tres pilares regionales:

E On February 28, 2008, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban ki-moon, launched the global campaign “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women”, in response to the international agreement held around the globe on the necessity of facing such an issue deeply rooted in society, whose severe consequences affect the everyday lives of women and the welfare of families, communities and countries all round the world.
Intended for governments, civil society, the entrepreneurial sector, and the media, as well as the entire United Nations System, the UNiTE Campaign will keep its actions in 2015 in order to align its results to the Millennium Development Goals, as an acknowledgment to the multiple existing links between the promotion of gender equality and development.
In response to this call, UNiTE Latin-America started off in November 2009, identifying three closely interrelated

Initiatives such as observing the Orange Day on the 25th of each month, or the campaign “The brave is not violent” designed especially for men, have allowed a greater activism of women and men of all ages and in both urban and rural communities, artists, athletes and other non-traditional leaders, who have worked to achieve a higher impact on the mass media and social networks.
On this, its third volume, “Roads to Non-Violence” will focus on the actions achieved by the UNiTE Campaign in the year 2014 under the personalised message “I Say No to Violence Against Women” closely guided by observing the three regional pillars.

La Campaña ÚNETE para poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres cobró fuerza en Cuba a partir de 2011 con la implementación de una estrategia dirigida a acompañar los esfuerzos nacionales, a través del establecimiento de alianzas con una amplia variedad de actores y el trabajo conjunto de todas las agencias, fondos y programas del SNU en el país.
Trabajar con mujeres y hombres de todas las edades, pero con énfasis en la población joven, en zonas urbanas y rurales, aparece en el centro de esta estrategia, en con-sonancia con el enfoque de género, poblacional y territorial del nuevo Marco de Asistencia de Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo, firmado por el SNU en el país y el Gobierno de Cuba para 2014-2018.
Este proceso, coordinado desde la Oficina de la Coor-dinadora Residente y el Grupo Interagencial de Género, se va construyendo a partir del intercambio sistemático con instituciones, organizaciones, especialistas y activis-tas que, desde diferentes ámbitos de actuación, aportan su mirada en la identificación de prioridades y ámbitos de trabajo conjunto.
A su vez, estos actores sociales, líderes no tradicionales como artistas y deportistas, periodistas y comunicadores, se han ido apropiando de los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE, multiplicando su incidencia a través de sus propios productos y acciones.
DESDE EL SISTEMA DE LAS NACIONES UNIDAS EN CUBA
ESFUERZO COMPaRTIDOLa implementación de la estrategia que tributa a los tres pilares de la Campaña ÚNETE en América Latina y el Caribe ha contado con el esfuerzo conjunto y el compromiso de todas las agencias del SNU en el país, a través del aporte de fondos o el acompañamiento de procesos. Además de compartir acciones, las agencias identificaron ámbitos de actuación en los proyectos en curso y sumaron a sus con-trapartes nacionales al activismo por la No violencia.

The UNiTE to End Violence Against Women Campaign was given boost in 2011 with the implementation of a strategy seeking to support national efforts through the establishment of partnerships with a wide range of actors, and through the joint efforts by all the agencies, funds and programmes of the UNS in the country.
This strategy is mainly aimed at working with women and men of all ages from urban and rural areas by applying the gender, population and local approach under the new United Nations Development Assistance Framework, which was signed by UNS in the country and the Government of Cuba for the years 2014 - 2018.
This process, coordinated by the Office of the Resident Coordinator and the Interagency Group on Gender Issues, is being modelled through the systematic exchange with institutions, organizations, specialists and activists, all of which, from different social areas, provide their knowledge and insight to identify priorities and areas for joint work.
Likewise, social actors, non-traditional leaders, including artists and athletes, journalists, and social communicators have taken the messages of the UNiTE Campaign as part of their daily work, multiplying its impact by incorporating such messages in their individual products and actions.
As part of the work achieved for more than three years, the year 2014 also brought a brief halt on the way to evaluate the advances made, reorganise the challenges detected and define the roads towards 2015.
SHaRED EFFORTThe implementation of the strategy based on the three pillars of the UNiTE Campaign in Latin America and the Caribbean area has been supported by the shared effort and commitment of all UNS agencies in the country through funds allocation or process support. In addition to sharing actions, the agencies identified possible areas of execution in ongoing projects and inserted their national counterparts in activities against violence.

ALIANZAS EN ENCUENTRO CON SECRETARIO GENERAL
En el ambiente acogedor del patio central del Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual (CENESEX), representantes de más de 30 instituciones, organizaciones no gubernamenta-les, proyectos culturales y redes, se dieron cita el 27 de enero para intercambiar sobre la Campaña ÚNETE con el Secretario General de la ONU Ban ki-moon.
Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretaria General de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas, abrió el encuentro con un resumen de los avances de las cubanas en materia de empodera-miento y de conquista de los espacios públicos, colocándolos en un contexto en que la cultura patriarcal dominante se resiste a los cambios y persisten manifestaciones de violencia de género.
Por su parte, la periodista Isabel Moya, presidenta de la Cátedra de Género y Comuni-cación del Instituto Internacional de Periodismo “José Martí” y directora de la Editorial de la Mujer, resumió la labor que desde la sociedad civil cubana se ha realizado de conjunto con el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en el país y la manera en que la campaña se ha ido impulsando, desde una amplia variedad de voces.
En sus palabras de cierre, el Secretario General reconoció el trabajo desempeñado por la institución anfitriona en la promoción de “la tolerancia y la comprensión, incluidos los derechos de todas las lesbianas, gays, bisexuales y trans”, tras recibir de manos de su directora, Mariela Castro Espín, su Certificado de Adhesión personal a la Campaña ÚNETE y el del CENESEX.
“Agradezco profundamente la labor que realizan todos ustedes –los dirigentes de la sociedad civil, los periodistas, los profesionales de la salud, los jóvenes y tantas otras personas que ponen de su parte”, afirmó tras agradecer el trabajo de la Red Iberoame-ricana y Africana de Masculinidades al llevar a todo el país el mensaje de “El valiente no es violento”.

PARTNERSHIPS DURING MEETING WITH SECRETARY GENERAL
In the welcoming atmosphere of the inner courtyard of the National Centre for Sex Education (CENESEX), representatives of more than 30 institutions, non-governmental organizations, cultural projects, and networks, came together to have a dialogue on the UNiTE Campaign with United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-moon on January 27.
Teresa Amarelle Boué, General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), opened the exchange with a review of the advances of Cuban women in terms of empowerment and access to public spaces, in a context where the dominant patriarchal culture resists change, and manifestations of gender violence persist.
Journalist Isabel Moya, director of the Programme on Gender and Communication at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism and of Women´s Publishing House, spoke about efforts carried out by Cuba’s civil society, supported by the United Nations System in the country, and the way in which the UNiTE Campaign has gained momentum among a wide variety of voices.
In his closing remarks, the Secretary General acknowledged the accomplishments obtained by the host institution in the promotion of “tolerance and understanding, including the rights of all lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals,” after receiving from the director of the institution, Mariela Castro Espín, his Certificate of Personal Adherence to the UNiTE Campaign and Certificate of Personal Adherence to CENESEX.
“I deeply appreciate the work all of you do – civil society leaders, journalists, health professionals, the youth, and many others who have taken part,” stated the UN Secretary General after expressing appreciation for the work of the Iberian American and African Network on Masculinity to spread throughout the country the message “The brave is not violent”.
The programme also included a speech by Miguel Barnet, president of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artists; artist Alicia Leal’s presentation of a painting to the Secretary General; and moving ending with singer Rochy Ameneiro and pianist Rodrigo García, both members of the UNiTE Artists Network.

NO A LA VIOLENCIA EN CADA UNIDAD DE JUSTICIA
Los esfuerzos que desde hace años emprende la Unión Nacional de Juristas de Cuba (UNJC) en la capacitación en Género y Derecho del personal del sector jurídico, se vieron fortalecidos este año con la implementación de una iniciativa de cooperación Sur-Sur que contó con el apoyo de COSUDE, UNFPA, la Embajada de Noruega en Cuba y la contribución técnica de la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.
Incluido en las acciones de la Campaña ÚNETE, el Taller “Entrenamiento para el uso del protocolo de trabajo con perspectiva de género”, del 10 al 14 de noviembre, fue impartido por Gabriel del Mazo, profesor de varias universidades en Argentina, y Pablo Molina, de la Oficina de la Mujer de la Corte Suprema de Justicia de esa nación sudamericana.
Jueces, juezas y fiscales de las 15 provincias cubanas, trabajadores de consultorías jurídicas, abogadas, notarias, integrantes de la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculi-nidades, profesores de la facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de La Habana y coordina-doras de proyectos de la UNJC, participaron en el espacio de capacitación.
Los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE también llegaron este año al curso Género, De-recho y Masculinidades, impartido del 22 al 25 de septiembre en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Camagüey, con el apoyo de COSUDE y de la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades.
Para finales del 2014, la UNJC iniciaba la distribución en todas las unidades del sector jurídico del país de dos carteles informativos sobre violencia contra las mujeres, elabora-dos de conjunto con la Fiscalía General de la República, el Tribunal Supremo Popular, la Organización Nacional de Bufetes Colectivos, como parte de las acciones de la Campaña ÚNETE acompañadas por UNFPA. Los productos comunicativos fueron validados en un taller con más de 60 integrantes del Consejo Nacional de la UNJC.

“NO” TO VIOLENCE IN INSTITUTIONS OF THE LEGAL SECTOR
The efforts undertaken for many years by the National Union of Jurists of Cuba (UNJC) in Gender and Law training for personnel in the legal sector were strengthened this year with the implementation of a South-South cooperation initiative, which was supported by The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Embassy of Norway in Cuba, with the technical assistance of the Office of the Resident Coordinator in the country.
As part of the UNiTE Campaign actions, the Workshop on “Training for the Use of the Work Protocol with a Gender Perspective” was held November 10-14 and led by Gabriel del Mazo, a professor at several universities in Argentina, and Pablo Molina, of Argentina’s Women’s Office of the Justice Supreme Court.
Male and female judges and prosecutors from the 15 Cuban provinces, law office employees, female lawyers and notaries, members of RIAM, professors of the School of Law at the University of Havana, and female project coordinators from the UNJC participated in this training workshop.
The messages of the UNiTE Campaign also were part of the course “Gender, Law and Masculinities,” held September 22-25 at the School of Law of the University of Camaguey, with the support of The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the RIAM.
Towards the end of the year, the UNJC began distributing two informational posters on violence against women at all institutions of the legal sector. These posters were produced jointly by the Attorney General’s Office, the Supreme Court, and the National Organization of Law Offices, as part of the actions of the UNiTE Campaign supported by UNFPA. The communicative products were validated in a workshop were more than 60 members of the UNJC National Council participated.

RESPUESTAS DESDE EL SECTOR DE LA SALUD
El personal del sector de la salud que se encuentra más cerca de la población constituyó el público meta principal de las acciones apoyadas en 2014 por la OMS/OPS, en línea con la Campaña ÚNETE.
En este sentido, continuó el trabajo conjunto con la Dirección de Atención Primaria de Salud del Ministerio de Salud Pública que, el 21 de junio, organizó un taller sobre violen-cia intrafamiliar y atención a las víctimas en el municipio capitalino del Cerro. Durante el encuentro se distribuyeron materiales informativos de la Campaña ÚNETE y publicaciones especialmente adquiridas para la ocasión por la OMS/OPS.
A este esfuerzo se sumó el Taller “La violencia contra la mujer desde un enfoque bioé-tico. Su abordaje desde la Atención Primaria de Salud”, realizado el 18 de junio por la Red de Género y Salud Colectiva en colaboración con la Escuela Nacional de Salud Pública (EN-SAP). Por su parte, la Dirección Municipal de Salud del municipio habanero de Guanabacoa se encargó de organizar un Taller sobre Violencia Intrafamiliar y de Género, que sesionó del 1 al 3 de julio. Para el cierre del año, el 4 de diciembre, la agencia especializada acompañó la realización del Taller “Gestión de la calidad con enfoque de género”, iniciativa del Minis-terio de Salud Pública y la ENSAP.
Como parte de las acciones apoyadas por OMS/OPS en el marco de la Campaña ÚNETE, la especialista Ada Alfonso revisó y actualizó el folleto “Violencia contra las mujeres: alerta para el sector de la salud”, que estará publicándose por la Editorial de la Mujer a inicios de 2015 para su presentación en la Feria Internacional del Libro de La Habana.
Asimismo, como una acción conjunta con PMA y la Oficina de la Coordinadora Resi-dente se trabajó con la FMC para la reimpresión de un folleto sobre violencia intrafamiliar y de género, identificado por la Dirección de Atención Primaria de Salud como útil para su trabajo.
El proyecto Construcción de género en las niñas y niños por la salud integral, más conocido como “Espejuelos para el género”, llegó a varias escuela primarias de la mano de la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad de la Habana, la Red de Género y Salud Colectiva, la Red de Enfermería en Salud Infantil y la Organización de Pioneros José Martí. The project Gender-Building in Girls and Boys for Comprehensive Health, also known as “Glasses for Gender”, arrived at diverse elementary schools led by the School of Communication at the University of Havana, the Gender and Collective Health Network, the Paediatrics Nurses Network, and the José Martí Students Organization.

REACTIONS FROM THE HEALTH SECTOR
The health sector personnel working closer to communities was the main target audience of the actions supported by WHO/PAHO in 2014, in line with the UNiTE Campaign.
In that regard, the joint efforts with the National Division of Primary Health Services at the Ministry of Public Health continued. The Ministry of Public Health organised a Workshop on Treatment of Family Violence and Attention to Victims in Cerro municipality, in Havana City. During the workshop, different informative materials of the UNiTE Campaign and other publications, specially purchased by WHO/PAHO, were distributed among the participants.
In conjunction with this effort, the Workshop on Gender Violence from a Bioethics Perspective: An Analysis in Primary Health Services was held June 18, organised by the Network on Gender and Collective Health in close collaboration with the National School of Public Health. More to the point, the Municipal Division of Health of Guanabacoa municipality in Havana organised a Workshop on Gender Violence and Treatment of Family Violence, which was held July 1-3. To round the year up, the Workshop on quality Management from a Gender Perspective, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Public Health and ENSAP, was held December 4.
In line with the actions supported by WHO/PAHO within the UNiTE Campaign framework, specialist Ada Alfonso amended and updated the booklet Gender Violence Against Women: Alerts to the Health Sector, which will be published by the Women´s Publishing House at the beginning of 2015 to be launched during the International Book Fair of Havana.
Likewise, as part of the joint actions of WFP and the Office of the Resident Coordinator, a joint effort was undertaken with the FMC to reprint a booklet on family violence and gender violence that was identified by the National Division of Primary Health Services members as a very useful tool for their work in the field.

POR UNA INFANCIA SIN VIOLENCIA
Adecuar las normativas internas para prohibir de manera explícita y absoluta la violencia contra la niñez y la adolescencia, en todas sus manifestaciones, en los países de América Latina y el Caribe, estuvo entre los planteamientos de la II Conferencia Internacional de Protección a la Infancia, realizada en La Habana del 27 al 29 de mayo.
La cita fue organizada por el Ministerio del Interior en colaboración con UNICEF y en coordinación con el Ministerio de Salud Pública, la Fiscalía General de la República y el Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual.
Con la mira puesta en la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño, aprobada en 1989 por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, las conferencias y debates profundizaron en los avances y desafíos aún presentes, alentaron a la construcción de mecanismos de me-dición de los sistemas de protección y sirvieron para propiciar la cooperación entre países.
Por su parte, especialistas de varias instituciones cubanas como el departamento de Atención al Derecho Ciudadano de la Fiscalía General de la República y el Ministerio de Justicia analizaron el sistema de protección a la infancia y se conoció que la actualización en curso del sistema jurídico nacional implica la revisión de todas las normas vigentes.
Entre otras personalidades, a la conferencia asistieron Nadine Perrault, asesora Regional de Protección de UNICEF; Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretaria General de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas; y el general de brigada Jesús Becerra Morciego, jefe de la Dirección Ge-neral de la Policía Nacional Revolucionaria y presidente del comité organizador del evento.

FOR A VIOLENCE-FREE INFANCY
Adapting internal laws to prohibit -explicitly and absolutely- acts of violence against children and adolescents in all its manifestations, in Latin American and Caribbean countries, was one of the statements made during the 2nd International Conference for the Protection of Infancy held May 27-29 in Havana.
The conference was organised by the Ministry of the Interior in close collaboration with UNICEF and the coordination of the Ministry of Public Health, the General Attorney’s Office and CENESEX.
Bearing in mind the Convention on the Rights of the Child, passed in 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly, the lectures and debates took a closer look at the advances achieved and challenges still ahead, encouraged the construction of mechanisms to better measure protection systems, and helped to promote cooperation among countries.
In addition, specialists of diverse Cuban institutions like the Department of Attention to Citizens´ Rights of the General Attorney’s Office and the Ministry of Justice analysed the infancy protection system and expressed that the ongoing updating process of the national judicial system in Cuba implies the revision of all laws currently in vigour.
Among the personalities attending the conference were Nadine Perrault, Regional Protection Consultant of UNICEF; Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of FMC; and Brigadier General Jesús Becerra Morciego, Chief of the National Division of the National Revolutionary Police and president of the organising committee of the conference.

HERRAMIENTAS PARA LA ACCIÓN POLICIAL
Como resultado de la alianza entre el Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual (CENESEX) y el Sis-tema de las Naciones Unidas en el marco de la Campaña ÚNETE, se trabajó en la realización del curso “Herramientas para la prevención y el tratamiento del maltrato infantil, la violencia de género y la violencia contra las mujeres desde la metodología de la Educación Popular”, con la participación en su diseño de representantes de la Policía Nacional Revolucionaria (PNR).
Preparado para satisfacer las necesidades de capacitación de este sector clave a través de la formación de formadores, la iniciativa alcanzó a más de 90 personas de las regiones occidental, central y oriental del país.
Entre los temas del curso, impartido por especialistas del CENESEX, estuvieron la vio-lencia como problema de salud, social y de derechos humanos; la violencia contra las mujeres y el maltrato infantil; las dimensiones de género, orientación sexual e identidad de género; la violencia institucional y la construcción participativa de propuestas de protoco-los para el accionar desde el sector policial.
La iniciativa contó con el acompañamiento de UNICEF y la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente, y el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega.
La iniciativa incluyó la impresión de dos folletos para el trabajo con este sector: “Tratamiento de las expresiones de la violencia en el Código Penal Cubano (Ley 62/87)” y “Abuso sexual de niños, niñas y adolescentes: algunas herramientas para su prevención”, aporte de la especialista del CENESEX Ana María Cano. The initiative included the printing of two booklets for the work in this sector: “ Treatment of Violence Expressions on the Cuban Penal Code (Law 67/87) and “Children and Teenagers Sexual Abuse: Some Tools for its Prevention” written by CENESEX specialist Ana María Cano.

TOOLS FOR POLICE ACTION
As a result of the partnership between the National Centre for Sex Education and the United Nations System under the UNiTE Campaign framework, the course on “Tools for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse, Gender Violence, and Violence Against Women through the Methodology of Popular Education” was created and designed with the participation of representatives of The National Revolutionary Police.
Designed to meet all the training needs of the personnel in this key sector through the formation of facilitators, the initiative gathered more than 90 officers from the western, central and eastern zones of the country.
Among the topics of the course, taught by CENESEX specialists, were those related to the violence as a health, social and human rights issue; the violence against women and child abuse; the dimensions of gender, sexual orientation and gender identity; institutional violence and the design of protocol proposals to operate within the police sector with the input provided by the participants in the course.
This initiative was supported by UNICEF, the Office of the Resident Coordinator in Cuba and the Embassy of Norway.

ENCUENTRO DE INVESTIGADORES IMPULSA RED
El nacimiento de una red de personas que se dedican al estudio de la violencia en Cuba, desde la academia, los medios de comunicación u otros espacios, fue uno de los saldos de la II Reunión de Investigadoras e Investigadores de Violencia, convocada por el CENESEX con el apoyo de UNFPA, ONU Mujeres y la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID).
En la cita, realizada del 25 al 27 de junio, especialistas del entorno académico, jurídico, de salud y de los medios de comunicación, identificaron desafíos en el ámbito de la in-vestigación, evaluaron la necesidad de atemperar las leyes a las circunstancias actuales –con conceptos más modernos, integradores e inclusivos–, así como la urgencia de capa-citar en género al personal médico, jurídico y docente, tanto en activo como en formación.
En ese contexto, un Panel Interagencial del Sistema de Naciones Unidas en Cuba pro-movió el debate acerca de los datos y evidencias que ha aportado la cooperación inter-nacional en la prevención y tratamiento de la violencia basada en género a nivel nacional.
En particular resultaron muy debatidas la experiencias de la Encuesta de Indicadores Múltiples por Conglomerados apoyada por UNICEF en la isla y del proyecto, enmarcado en el nuevo Programa de País del UNFPA en Cuba para 2014-2018, de realizar una En-cuesta Nacional de Igualdad de Género, coordinada por la Federación de Mujeres Cuba-nas (FMC), con apoyo de la Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas e Información (ONEI) y otras instituciones cubanas.
Como parte de estos esfuerzos, el 8 de diciembre tuvo lugar un taller metodológico para la preparación de la Encuesta Nacional con la asesoría de Paz López, especialista de ONU Mujeres. En tanto, las especialistas Clotilde Proveyer, Magela Romero y Zulema Hidalgo cerraban una sistematización sobre estudios relativos a experiencias de atención a mujeres víctimas de violencia de género en Cuba, que contó con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega y el acompañamiento de PNUD.

RESEARCHERS´ EVENT BOOSTS NETWORK
One of the positive results of the 2nd Meeting of Violence Researchers, organised by CENESEX with the support of UNFPA, UN Women, and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, was the inception of a support network devoted to bringing together professionals from academic institutions, the mass media and other public spaces whose field of research is violence in Cuba.
During the meeting, held June 25-27, experts from academic institutions, the legal and health sectors, and the mass media identified the challenges they face during the research process; evaluated the need to adjust laws to current circumstances –by means of more modern, comprehensive and inclusive concepts–; and highlighted the urgent need of training personnel in the legal, health, and education sectors (those actively working as well as those in current training) on gender issues.
In this context, an Interagency Panel of the United Nations System in Cuba promoted the debate on the data and evidence collected by international cooperation agencies working for the prevention and treatment of gender-based violence at the national level.
The experiences particularly debated by participants in the meeting derived from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey sponsored by UNICEF in Cuba, and those pertaining a project (included in the new 2014-2018 UNDP Country Programme) to undertake a National Survey on Gender Equality, coordinated by the Federation of Cuban Women with the support of the National Office for Statistics and Information and other Cuban institutions.
As part of the efforts, on December 8, a Methodological Workshop on the preparation for the National Survey was held, with the counselling of Paz López, specialist of UN Women. At the same time, specialists Clotide Proveyer, Magela Romero and Zulema Hidalgo were concluding a systematisation course on studies developed to research health experiences in women victims of gender violence in Cuba, which was supported by the Embassy of Norway and UNDP.

RESPUESTA CONCERTADA
Los esfuerzos iniciados en 2013 por el Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual (CENESEX) a favor del diálogo institucional para responder, de manera concertada, a problemáticas como la violencia de género, la prostitución, el turismo sexual y el tráfico de personas, continuaron el 6 de enero de este año con una segunda sesión de la Reunión Técnica Nacional sobre estos temas, con la participación de más de 20 organismos y organizaciones cubanas.
La iniciativa, que ha contado con el apoyo de COSUDE y PNUD, se entrelaza con otros procesos de diálogo, sensibilización y activismo impulsados por esa institución a favor del derecho a una vida libre de violencia y la inclusión de todas las personas, independiente-mente de su orientación sexual o identidad de género. Para ello cuenta con el compromiso de especialistas y no pocas personas que se suman como colaboradoras o integrantes de varias redes sociales comunitarias.
Así, el tema de la no violencia por motivos de género estuvo presente en la Jornada Na-cional contra la Homofobia, en las acciones de la Red de Jóvenes por la Salud y los Dere-chos Sexuales, en las celebraciones por el Día Mundial de la Salud Sexual y en las sesiones del II Taller “Sexualidades y Derechos Humanos” y del II Encuentro de las Redes Sociales Comunitarias “Enredes”, en ocasión de la celebración del Día de los Derechos Humanos.
Los encuentros de fin de año incluyeron paneles que interrelacionaron las dimensiones de derechos humanos, discriminación, género, sexualidad, VIH/sida, legislación laboral y activismo LGBTI (lesbianas, gays, bisexuales, trans e intersexuales). Las personas asisten-tes tuvieron, además, la oportunidad de disfrutar de la proyección de “Mujeres... la hora dorada”, documental de Ingrid León, integrante del Proyecto Palomas y Artista ÚNETE.

ARRANGED RESPONSE
The efforts undertaken at the beginning of 2013 by the CENESEX in favour of widening the institutional dialogue to respond, in an arranged manner, to different issues such as gender violence, prostitution, sex tourism and human trafficking continued this year January 6, during the second session of the National Technical Meeting on these topics, with the participation of representatives of more than 20 Cuban institutions and organizations.
The initiative, supported by SDC and UNDP, intertwines with other dialogue processes, awareness campaigns and activism boosted by this institution in favour of a violence-free life and the inclusion of every person, regardless their sexual orientation or gender identity. To accomplish this, the centre has achieved the commitment of all its specialists and other people, who are working as collaborators or have joined diverse community social networks.
That is the reason why the issue of gender non-violence was present during the National Day Against Homophobia; in the actions carried out by the Youth for Health and Sexual Rights Network; in the activities for the World Sexual Health Day; during the sessions of the 2nd Workshop on Sexualities and Human Rights and the “Enredes” Second Meeting of Community Social Networks; all activities carried out to observe the Human Rights Day.
The events to end the year included panels that interrelated the dimensions of human rights, discrimination, gender, sexuality, HIV/AIDS, labour legislation, and LGBTI activism (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and intersexuals). The participants had the opportunity of watching the screening of a documentary by Ingrid León, a member of Palomas Project and the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network.

ARTICULACIÓN DE BUENAS PRáCTICAS COMUNITARIAS
Realizado durante cuatro años consecutivos en la capital del país, el Taller de “Buenas Prácticas a favor de la no violencia hacia las mujeres” se trasladó este año a la provincia de Guantánamo, facilitando una mayor participación de propuestas procedentes de varias regiones del país y potenciando la incidencia de la Jornada Nacional por la No violencia y de la Campaña ÚNETE en esa provincia.
La iniciativa del Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” (OAR), en alianza con la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas, con el acompañamiento del PNUD y el apo-yo de la Embajada de Noruega, se extendió del 4 al 6 de noviembre e incluyó la presenta-ción e intercambio sobre 12 experiencias comunitarias, un encuentro con actores sociales clave, dos exposiciones de arte y una gala final en el proyecto El Garaje.
Como fortalezas se identificó la existencia de estructuras como los TTIBS y las Casas de Orientación a la Mujer y la Familia de la FMC, el trabajo con generaciones diversas y a nivel comunitario, la voluntad y apoyo de gobiernos locales y la existencia de mecanismos –como este encuentro– que facilitan la articulación continuada en el tiempo entre las iniciativas.
Los desafíos, en tanto, pasan por la insuficiente preparación de algunos actores so-ciales para enfrentar esta problemática, el no seguimiento adecuado de los casos que se identifican, la ausencia de una cobertura sistemática de los medios de comunicación y el poco aprovechamiento de los espacios formales de la comunidad. El taller fue un momento especial para la presentación de la campaña nacional del 2014 por la no violencia hacia las mujeres, “Eres Más”, en la voz y el estilo de sus jóvenes creadores y creadoras.
Entre las prácticas compartidas estuvo el trabajo del Grupo Municipal de Género del municipio de Jobabo, en Las Tunas; los festivales por la no violencia hacia las mujeres en el proyecto Comunidad 23 del macizo montañoso del Escambray, en Sancti Spíritus; el activismo del proyecto sociocultural La Cazuela, de Ciego de Ávila, y el recorrido de varios Talleres de Transformación Integral del Barrio (TTIB), en la capital cubana, con la asesoría sistemática de OAR. BEST COMMUNITY PRACTICES COORDINATION
Held during four consecutive years in Havana, the Workshop on “Best Practices in Favour of Non-Violence Towards Women” was moved this year to Guantanamo province, allowing a higher participation of proposals from several regions of the country and potentiating significantly the observance of the National Day for Non-Violence as well as the UNiTE Campaign in that eastern province.
The initiative, presented by the “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” Group of Reflexion and Solidarity in partnership with the FMC and supported by UNDP and the Embassy of Norway in Cuba, was held November 4-6, and included the presentation and exchange of the participants on 12 community experiences, a meeting with key social actors, two art exhibitions and the closing gala celebrated on the premises of The Garage Project.
Among the strengths identified during the debates, the participants highlighted the existence of structures such the TTIBs and the Women and Family Guidance Centres as part of the FMC, the actions undertaken to include all generations at the community level, the will and support of local governments and the existence of mechanisms, such as this event, which facilitate the continued coordination, in time, between initiatives.
The challenges pointed out, on the other hand, were the insufficient preparation of some social actors to face this issue, the lack of an adequate follow-up of those cases already identified, the absence of systematic coverage on violence problems in the media, and not taking full advantage of formal spaces in the community.
The workshop was the right opportunity to launch the 2014 “You are More” National Campaign for non-violence against women, presented by its creators, both female and male.

HACIA UNA ESCUELA NO SEXISTA
Estudiantes de la Universidad de Ciencias Pedagógicas Enrique José Varona (UCPEJV) compartieron los resultados de sus investigaciones en el coloquio estudiantil “La Preven-ción de la violencia de género y sobre la mujer en el ámbito escolar”, organizado el 13 de noviembre por la Cátedra de Género, Sexología y Educación Sexual de ese centro de altos estudios, con el acompañamiento del UNFPA y el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega.
Seguido del acto central ese mismo día dedicado al 25 de noviembre, el coloquio cerró un año de trabajo conjunto de la Cátedra de Género, Sexología y Educación Sexual (CAGSES) de ese centro y el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas, como parte de la Campaña ÚNETE.
El proceso, que llegó con talleres grupales a 230 estudiantes, busca fortalecer la formación permanente del estudiantado para, desde su posición de docentes, superar y prevenir las manifestaciones de sexismo, discriminación y violencia por razones de género, contra las mu-jeres, las adolescentes y las niñas y otros grupos vulnerables, en el ámbito escolar y familiar.
Un diagnóstico inicial desarrollado entre estudiantes que participarían de la experiencia concluyó que tanto muchachas como muchachos reconocen haber sido víctimas de violen-cia y, a la vez, haberla utilizado sobre otras personas. A pocos meses del inicio, un grupo de estudiantes exponían sus resultados de investigación y cómo la intervención educativa había cambiado sus vidas durante el II Congreso Iberocubano de Género, Salud y Desarro-llo Humano, celebrado del 9 al 11 de julio.
El Congreso, organizado por CAGSES, acogió además un panel de la Campaña ÚNETE con la participación de Julio César González Pagés, Rochy Ameneiro y Lizette Vila, inte-grantes de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE, y Dalia Acosta, consultora de la Campaña en la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.

ON THE WAY TOWARDS NON-SEXIST SCHOOLS
November 13. University students at “Enrique José Varona” Pedagogical Institute shared the results of their researches during the students’ symposium “Prevention of Gender Violence Against Women in Schools”, organised by the Gender, Sexuality, and Sex Education Programme at this higher education institution in Havana and supported by UNFPA and the Embassy of Norway in Cuba.
Following the central activities dedicated to November 25, the symposium activities enclosed a whole year of joint work between the Gender, Sexuality, and Sex Education Programme at “Enrique José Varona” Pedagogical Institute and the United Nations System in Cuba, as part of the actions of the UNiTE Campaign.
This process, that brought together 230 students in different workshops, seeks to strengthen the permanent formation of the students who, in their positions as teachers to be, must learn to overcome and prevent the manifestations of sexism, discrimination, and gender violence against women, teenagers, girls and other vulnerable groups not only within schools, but also in family environments.
A first diagnostics to the issue, developed among the students who would be involved in the experience, concluded that both female and male students acknowledge to have been victims of violence at some point, and at the same time, to have used violence against other people in the past. Just a few months from the beginning of the experience, a group of students were presenting their research results and were talking about how the educative involvement had changed their lives during the 2nd Iberian Cuban Congress on Gender, Health, and Human Development held July 9-11.
The Congress, organised by CAGSES, also held a panel on the UNiTE Campaign, with the participation of Julio César González Pagés, Rochy Ameneiro y Lizette Vila, members of the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network, and Dalia Acosta, Campaign Consultant to the Office of the Resident Coordinator in Cuba.

ESCUELAS EN CAMPAÑA
Como parte de una misión de monitoreo del proyecto “Educación sobre el Cambio Climá-tico para el Desarrollo Sostenible”, implementado por la Oficina Regional de Cultura para América Latina y el Caribe de la UNESCO en centros educativos de toda Cuba, los equipos de los sectores de Educación y Comunicación e Información entregaron plegables de la Campaña “Yo digo NO” y acercaron a docentes y familiares a las acciones que se están implementando para poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas en Cuba.
El mensaje de “Yo digo NO a la Violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas” llegó a las comunidades educativas de Trinidad, en la provincia de Sancti Spíritus, y Remedios, en Villa Clara, y a zonas rurales como Guane, en Pinar de Río, y Songo-La Maya y Chivirico, en Santiago de Cuba.
Por su parte, el Instituto Politécnico Agropecuario (IPA) Villena-Revolución continuó sus acciones de sensibilización entre el estudiantado, celebrando el 25 de noviembre y llevan-do el debate sobre temas de igualdad de género y violencia contra las mujeres a diferentes espacios acogidos por el centro como el 2do Festival del Año Internacional de la Agricultura Familiar 2014 y el Día Mundial de la Alimentación. Con el acompañamiento de la FAO y de la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente, el IPA contó con materiales de la Campaña ÚNETE, incluidos ejemplares de la Agenda de las Mujeres Cuba 2014, para sus acciones de pro-moción de la No violencia entre sus estudiantes.

In line with the monitoring mission of the Education on Climate Change for Sustainable Development Project, implemented by UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean in educational centres on the island, members of the teams of the Education and Communication and Information sectors handed brochures providing information on the “I Say No” Campaign to teaching staffs, mothers, fathers, and school principals, to let them know about all the actions being carried out to end violence against women and girls in Cuba.
The message “I Say No to Violence Against Women and Girls” also reached educational communities in Trinidad, (Sancti Spíritus province) Remedios, (Villa Clara province) and rural areas like Guane in Pinar del Río province, and Songo La Maya and Chivirico in Santiago de Cuba province.
In addition, the Villena-Revolución Agricultural Polytechnic Institute (IPA) continued its actions to raise awareness in its students by observing November 25th and taking the debates on issues related to gender equality and violence against women to different spaces held by the institution during the 2nd Festival for the International Year of Family Agriculture and the World Food Day. Supported by FAO and the Office of the Resident Coordinator, the educational institution handed its students different materials of the UNiTE Campaign, including the 2014 Women’s Journal in Cuba. All the materials delivered had as an objective to support the actions implemented by the institution to promote non-violence among its students.

ACOMPAÑAMIENTO A INICIATIVAS COMUNITARIAS
Con la selección e impulso inicial de cuatro nuevas iniciativas locales cerraron las accio-nes del Programa de Acompañamiento a Iniciativas Comunitarias de los Talleres de Trans-formación Integral del barrio (TTIB), una propuesta del Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” (OAR) que contó con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega y el acompañamiento de PNUD.
Los proyectos comunitarios –centrados en temas como información, empoderamiento y emprendimiento femeninos y articulación de actores– , fueron el resultado de un pro-ceso de fortalecimiento de capacidades desarrollado durante el año. Como acciones es-tratégicas se promovieron talleres sobre liderazgo, análisis y aplicación de herramientas para la construcción de diagnósticos comunitarios, y, a partir de los desafíos identifica-dos en el diagnóstico, la elaboración de propuestas desde cada comunidad involucrada. Acciones de bien público acompañaron los esfuerzos e iniciativas en los espacios y ba-rrios habaneros.
La iniciativa de OAR llegó a mujeres y hombres líderes vinculados al trabajo por la no violencia contra las mujeres en los TTIB Libertad, Los Ángeles, Pogolotti, Zamora, Cocosolo, Santa Felicia, Atarés, El Canal, Alamar Playa, Alamar Este y Párraga, en diferentes munici-pios de la capital cubana.
Como parte de la experiencia se impartió un taller sobre el tratamiento jurídico de la violencia en Cuba, con el fin de dotar a quienes trabajan a nivel comunitario del conoci-miento necesario para brindar apoyo a aquellas mujeres que se encuentran en situación de violencia. Para el mes de noviembre, en el ámbito de los 16 Días de Activismo, OAR organizó tres encuentros de articulación a nivel local para involucrar a los actores sociales clave en la prevención y atención de la violencia contra las mujeres, resultados de los cuales se acordaron planes de acción para una respuesta integrada a la problemática con el liderazgo del gobierno local.
El realizador Ernesto Pérez Zambrano, Artista ÚNETE, se unió a la activista por la no violencia Leticia Santa Cruz para llevar la Campaña ÚNETE al Festival de Audiovisuales “El Canal -Tierra de Todos”, el 21 de noviembre. La cita fue organizada por el Taller de Transformación Integral del Barrio de El Canal, la Asociación Hermanos Saíz y la ONG Grupo de Voluntariado Civil de Italia (GVC), como parte del proyecto “Canalizando mi barrio”. SUPPORTING COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
The actions of the Programme to Support Community Initiatives, which is part of the Workshops on Comprehensive Neighbourhood Transformation –a proposal made by the “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” Group of Reflection and Solidarity (OAR), were completed with the selection and initial boost of four new community initiatives. The Embassy of Norway in Cuba and UNDP supported these actions.
The community projects, –focused on topics like information, empowerment, women work, and coordination of social actors–, were the results of a process, which included workshops on leadership, tools for the development of community diagnostics and its application, and the elaboration of proposals from each of the communities involved, after having identified the challenges ahead, to develop actions for the welfare of the communities.
The OAR initiative brought together both female and male leaders to work actively to achieve non-violence against women in the TIIBS developed in the neighbourhoods of Libertad, Los Ángeles, Pogolotti, Zamora Cocosolo, Santa Felicia, Atarés, El Canal, Alamar Playa, Alamar del Este and Párraga located in different municipalities in Havana.
As part of the experience, a Workshop on the Legal Treatment of Violence in Cuba was taught to provide those who work at the community level with the knowledge needed to support women under a situation of violence. In November, during the 16 Days of Activism, OAR organised three meetings on coordination at the local level to involve key social actors for the prevention and attention of violence against women.

DE VUELTA EN COMUNIDADES SERRANAS
La no identificación de otras formas de violencia contra las mujeres, que no sea la física o sexual, caracteriza a las comunidades que durante más de 20 años han acogido al proyec-to cultural comunitario Televisión Serrana, en las montañas de la Sierra Maestra. Justo la necesidad de contar con herramientas para abordar adecuadamente desde el audiovisual la violencia por motivos de género, condujo a la celebración por segundo año consecutivo del taller “Género y creación: el compromiso de mirar”.
Responsabilidad, ética, sexismo, patriarcado, estereotipos de género, estuvieron entre las palabras claves de un espacio organizado de manera conjunta por TV Serrana y el Grupo de Género y Cultura “Mirar desde la sospecha”, con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega y el acompañamiento de la UNESCO y la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.
Realizado del 28 al 30 de octubre, el encuentro sesionó durante el día e incluyó en las noches la proyección de audiovisuales en comunidades de la zona, algunas como Yao Vive-ro de difícil acceso. Los especialistas Danae C. Diéguez, Magela Romero, Magda González Grau y Ernesto Pérez Zambrano pasaban, entonces, de su papel de profesores al de acti-vistas para recorrer calles y casas entregando los plegables de “Yo digo NO” y propiciando la reflexión sobre la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.
Tras aprovechar cada momento para llevar los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE, el colectivo de TV Serrana y sus colaboradores llegó a la comunidad de San Pablo de Yao para propiciar un taller de actores sociales, con la facilitación de Zulema Hidalgo, espe-cialista del Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero”. Al intercambio, que incluyó testimonios reveladores de las personas participantes, siguió el trabajo en equipo para definir las deficiencias, potencialidades y compromisos para el trabajo, con la propia comunidad como protagonista, por la No violencia.

RETURNING TO MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES
The non-identification of forms of violence against women other than physical and sexual characterises the rural communities, which, for more than 20 years, have harboured the TV Serrana (Mountain Range Television) Community Project in the Sierra Maestra Mountain Range. The imperative need of incorporating new tools to deal appropriately with gender-based violence in audiovisual materials led to the organisation, for the second year in a row, of a Workshop on “Gender and Creation: Looking, a Commitment”.
Responsibility, ethics, sexism, patriarchy, and gender stereotypes, among others, were key words during the workshop, organised by the TV Serrana Community Project and the Study Group on Gender and Culture Mirar desde la sospecha, supported as well by the Embassy of Norway in Cuba, UNESCO and the Office of the Resident Coordinator.
The workshop was held October 28-30, and in the evenings, documentary films were shown in local communities, including isolated ones like Yao Vivero. Experts Danae C. Diéguez, Magela Romero, Magda González Grau and Ernesto Pérez Zambrano went from being workshop teachers to activists, visiting different streets and homes and distributing “I say NO” brochures, to promote reflection on violence against women and girls.
Taking advantage of all opportunities to spread the messages of the UNiTE Campaign, the TV Serrana staff and collaborators arrived at the mountain village of San Pablo de Yao to conduct a workshop on social actors, with facilitator Zulema Hidalgo, an OAR specialist. The workshop, which included revealing testimonies from participants, was followed by team work to define the deficiencies, potentialities and commitments to keep working, with the leading role of the community, on roads to non-violence.

ÚNETE LLEGA A COOPERATIVA AGROPECUARIA
Con cintas, abanicos y origamis de papel, todos recordando el Día Naranja, se celebró el 25 de junio el Taller Interactivo por la No violencia y la Conciencia de Género en la Cooperativa de Créditos y Servicios “Orlando López” del municipio habanero de La Lisa.
La iniciativa de la Asociación Cubana de Producción Animal y el Proyecto Palomas en el marco de la Campaña ÚNETE, con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega y el acompaña-miento de la FAO y la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente, dejó un registro espejo de todo lo vivido y sentido por más de 70 personas participantes que, según experiencias anteriores en comunidades rurales, podría servir como herramienta para un trabajo más sistemático.
Integrantes de diferentes cooperativas agropecuarias, asociados de ACPA, representan-tes de empresas e institutos de investigación, organizaciones no gubernamentales, profe-sores y médicos veterinarios, entre otros, se acercaron durante la cita a conceptos como la felicidad, la violencia, la salud y el bienestar.
Acomodadas en círculo e impulsadas por las reflexiones y preguntas de Vila y los movi-mientos de Isabel Blanco, bailarina del grupo Danza Contemporánea, las personas asisten-tes realizaron gestos espontáneos, corporizando la felicidad, la culpa que sienten hombres y mujeres y la importancia de conocer el cuerpo.
El arte de vivir desde la conciencia de género ha sido impartido por el Proyecto Palo-mas en varios y diferentes espacios urbanos, rurales, centros educacionales y religiosos, bajo el principio de corporizar lo que se aprende y ver qué se incorporó mal. Desde 2012, Palomas y ACPA abrieron un espacio en su trabajo por la no violencia para los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE.

UNITE CAMPAIGN ARRIVES AT AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES
With orange ribbons, fans, and origami, as a remembrance of the Orange Day, the Interactive Workshop on Non-violence and Gender Awareness was held June 25 at the Orlando López Credit and Service Cooperative, located in the Havana municipality of La Lisa.
This workshop, a joint initiative of the Cuban Association for Animal Production and Palomas Cultural Project within the UNiTE Campaign framework, supported by the Embassy of Norway in Cuba, FAO and the Office of the Resident Coordinator, recorded everything that was experienced and felt by more than 70 participants; a record which, according to previous experiences observed in rural communities, could become a tool for more systematic work.
Members of different agricultural cooperatives, ACPA affiliates, representatives of research institutions, state companies, and non-governmental organizations, veterinarians and professors, among other participants, learned about a new methodology where concepts such as happiness, violence, health and well-being were key words during the workshop.
Sitting in a circle and stimulated by the reflections and questions asked by Lizette Vila and the movements of Isabel Blanco, a dancer with the the group Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, participants made spontaneous gestures, using their bodies to express both the happiness and guilt men and women feel and the importance of knowing their own bodies.
The workshop has been taught by the Palomas Cultural Project in diverse rural and urban spaces, as well as in educational and religious institutions, under the principle of using the body to express what has been learned and to see what was misconstrued during the learning process. Since 2012, Palomas and the ACPA have opened a space in their agenda against violence to incorporate the messages of the UNiTE Campaign.

Por tercer año consecutivo, el Programa de Pequeñas Donaciones (PPD) del GEF/PNUD siguió llevando los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE a comunidades rurales de toda Cuba.
El énfasis este año estuvo en las reuniones constitutivas de las juntas directivas de varios proyectos, llegando así no solo a las personas involucradas directamente en las iniciativas sino también a otras autoridades locales.
Así los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE llegaron a las cooperativas “Vietnam Heroico” y “Niceto Pérez García” del municipio de Güira de Melena y del Consejo de Administración Provincial de Artemisa; y a la comunidad La Vegueta, del municipio avileño de Florencia. El mensaje “Yo digo No” también llegó a los proyectos conjuntos del PPD y la Asociación Nacional de Agricultores Pequeños en cinco comunidades de la central provincia de Cien-fuegos: Crucecitas, La Yaba, Espartaco, Juraguá y Cumanayagua.
ÚNETE tuvo su espacio, asimismo, en un festival a favor de la equidad que se realizó a finales de mayo en la Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias de la Universidad de Sancti Spíri-tus, dentro del Programa de Innovación Agropecuaria Local (PIAL), con el apoyo de COSUDE. El mensaje de “Yo digo NO” fue incluido en un taller facilitado por Zulema Hidalgo coordi-nadora del Programa de Violencia de Género del Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” (OAR), y la especialista Magela Romero, colaboradora de esa organización.
Desde la zona central del país, también se sumaron las acciones por los 16 Días de Activismo del proyecto socio-cultural La Cazuela, una iniciativa de la Comunidad 23 de la zona montañosa del Escambray, en la provincia de Santi Spíritus, y la red de educación popular con sede en la Universidad Máximo Gómez Baéz, de Ciego de Ávila.
“Yo digo NO” llegó también, de la mano de COSUDE, a Puerto Esperanza, en el municipio pinareño de Viñales. Los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE en Cuba estuvieron en un proyecto conjunto en esa comunidad con el Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero”. “I Say No” arrived in Puerto Esperanza Community, located in Viñales municipality in Pinar del Río province, led by SDC. FROM THE WEST TO THE CENTRE OF CUBA
In its third consecutive year, the Small Donations Programme supported by GEF/UNDP continued to take the messages of the UNiTE Campaign to rural communities in Cuba.
This year, the focus was on the constitutive meetings of the executive boards of diverse projects, involving not only people directly linked to the initiative, but also representatives of local authorities.
Thus, the messages of the UNiTE Campaign were taken to the cooperatives “Vietnam Heroico” and “Niceto Pérez” of the Guira de Melena municipality and of the Council for Provincial Administration of Artemisa municipality respectively; and to the community “La Vegeta” in Florencia municipality. In addition, the message “I Say No” was taken to five communities in Cienfuegos province: Crucecitas, La Yaba, Espartaco, Juraguá and Cumanayagua as part of the joint efforts of PPD and the National Association of Small Farmers.
Likewise, the UNiTE Campaign was present in a festival in favour of equity, held at the end of May at the School of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Santi Spititus, within the framework of the Local Agricultural Innovation Programme, supported by SDC. The message “I Say No” was incorporated in a workshop, which had as facilitators Zulema Hidalgo, coordinator of the Gender Violence Programme of OAR, and specialist Magela Romero, a collaborator of said organization.
Furthermore, many actions undertaken in the central zone of the country contributed to the Campaign: the actions developed by “La Cazuela” Socio-cultural Project during the 16 Days of Activism; an initiative carried out by Community 23 from Escambray Mountain Range in Sancti Spíritus province; and those achieved by the Popular Education Network at Máximo Gómez Baéz University in Ciego de Ávila province.

CON PÚBLICOS DIVERSOS POR EL ORIENTE CUBANO
Talleres, conferencias, maratones deportivos, visitas de trabajo... cualquier espacio fue propicio para que las personas que se desempeñan como monitoras del PMA en las pro-vincias orientales de Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba y Guantánamo llevaran los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE.
Así, un taller con profesionales de Atención Primaria de Salud sobre cómo disminuir los índices de anemia por déficit de hierro en menores de 5 años y mujeres embarazadas, realizado en Santiago de Cuba el 9 de julio, incluyó la conferencia “Violencia Doméstica, Alerta Roja” y culminó con el compromiso de las personas participantes de combatir en todo momento la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.
ÚNETE, con el mensaje personalizado “Yo digo NO”, estuvo en las actividades reali-zadas de la mano del PMA por el Día Mundial de la Alimentación, el 16 de octubre, y en iniciativas vinculadas a los 16 Días de Activismo por la No violencia de Género: una marcha coordinada por el Centro Provincial de Promoción y Educación para la Salud de Las Tunas y una visita al hogar materno “Casa Piedra” de esa provincia; un encuentro del sector de la salud en Holguín; un taller “Chispita” en Granma y en un maratón por el Día Nacional de la Cultura Física y el Deporte en Guantánamo, entre otras.
Como parte de sus esfuerzos por la equidad, PMA llevó la Campaña ÚNETE al evento científico de enfoque de género “Una mirada divergente en el desarrollo local en un medio ambiente sano y sostenible”, realizado en el municipio holguinero de Urbano Noris. Asi-mismo, se sumó a la Campaña un nuevo proyecto piloto dirigido a incrementar la calidad y los niveles de producción de frijol en Guantánamo y Matanzas, teniendo en cuenta la búsqueda de oportunidades para el empoderamiento y la autonomía de las mujeres.
Para apoyar todo este trabajo, el PMA, de conjunto con sus contrapartes, distribuye más de 4000 ejemplares de un cartel naranja con información sobre las formas de violencia contra las mujeres, incluido el círculo de la violencia y a dónde acudir para solicitar ayuda. El cartel está llegando a policlínicos, hogares maternos, hogares de ancianos, casas de los abuelos, hospitales, escuelas primarias y unidades de comercio. In order to support all these actions, WFP, in joint efforts with its counterparts, has distributed more than 400 Orange posters that provide information on the different ways gender violence against women take shape, show images of the circle of violence, and inform where to go for help. The poster has reached polyclinics, care facilities for pregnant women, care facilities for the elderly, hospitals, elementary schools and commerce units.

DIVERSE TARGET AUDIENCES IN EASTERN CUBA
Workshops, conferences, sports marathons, field visits... any space was favourable for the specialists working on the WFP Monitoring to carry out the messages of the UNiTE Campaign to the eastern provinces of Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo.
In that line, a workshop on how to decrease anaemia rates due to iron deficiency in children under 5 years old and pregnant women, held in Santiago de Cuba on July 9, included the conference “Domestic Violence: A Red Flag Alert”, and concluded with the commitment pledged by all the Participants to fight violence against women and girls at all costs.
The UNiTE Campaign, carrying the personalised message “I Say No”, was incorporated to the activities launched by WFP on the World Food Day, observed on October 16.In addition, the Campaign was also part of the initiatives linked to the 16 Days of Activism for Gender Non-violence, which included a walk coordinated by the Provincial Centre for Health Promotion and Education in Las Tunas province; a visit to the “Casa Piedra” care facility for pregnant women in that province; a meeting with personnel of the health sector in Holguín; a “Chispita” Workshop in Granma province, and a sports marathon in observance of the National Day of Physical Culture and Sports in Guantánamo province, among other activities.
As part of the equity efforts led by WFP, this organisation took the messages of the UNiTE Campaign to the scientific conference on gender perspective “A Divergent Look within Local Development in a Healthy and Sustainable Environment” held in Urbano Noris municipality in Holguín. Likewise, a new pilot project joined the Campaign; a project that intends to increase quality and production levels of beans in Guantánamo and Matanzas provinces, which is meant to look for new empowering opportunities for women, as well as their autonomy as human beings.

ADOLESCENTES POR LA NO VIOLENCIA
El proyecto “Adolescentes por la no violencia, la equidad de género y la defensa de los derechos de la niñez” arrancó este año como una iniciativa conjunta de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas, el Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” y UNICEF. Cuarenta adolescentes de ambos sexos participaron en un ciclo de tres talleres realizados en los municipios capitalinos de Centro Habana y Playa.
La primera etapa estaba dirigida a reconocer las diferentes manifestaciones de vio-lencia hacia las mujeres y las niñas y a identificar cómo afecta a quienes participan en la experiencia. Para un segundo momento en 2015, 19 adolescentes del grupo inicial vivirán un proceso de formación que les potenciará sus habilidades comunicativas para ser pro-motores de la no violencia en su entorno cotidiano.
Paralelamente, las acciones del proyecto “Desarrollo Social Integral y Participativo de Adolescentes en la Habana Vieja”, implementado de conjunto por la Oficina del Historiador de La Habana y UNICEF con financiamiento de la Unión Europea, siguieron llevando los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE a sus talleres, conferencias, acciones comunitarias y conciertos en espacios públicos.
Entre las acciones estuvo un intercambio entre especialistas sobre cómo aprovechar el espacio que brindan los talleres para “desmontar” los estereotipos de género existentes y promover la equidad en este grupo etario. Asimismo, los mensajes por la No violencia estu-vieron en el concierto del integrante de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE David Blanco en el Día Ado-lescente, celebrado en ocasión del 25 aniversario de la Convención de los Derechos del Niño.

TEENAGERS FOR NON-VIOLENCE
The Project “Teenagers for Non-violence, Gender Equality and Protection of the Rights of the Child” began this year with a joint initiative of the FMC, OAR and UNICEF. Forty teenagers, both female and male, participated in a cycle of three workshops held in the municipalities of Centro Habana and Playa, in Havana City.
The first stage of the initiative had as an objective to present the different violence manifestations there are towards women and girls, as well as the identification, by the participants,of the possible consequences for those subjected to violence. For a second stage, which will be developed in 2015, the teenagers participating in this first group will undertake a formation process that will allow them to increase their communicative skills to become promoters for non-violence in their immediate environments.
At the same time, the actions developed by the Social, Comprehensive and Participatory Development Project for Teenagers in Old Havana, implemented by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana in joint efforts with UNICEF and financed by the European Union, carried on with the insertion of the messages of the UNiTE Campaign in their workshops, lectures, community activities and concerts in public spaces.
Along with the many actions achieved, there was an exchange among specialists on how to take advantage of the spaces provided by the workshops to deconstruct the existing gender-based stereotypes and promote gender equality within this age group. NO A LA VIOLENCIA COMO RESPUESTA AL VIH
El Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo continuó promoviendo la reflexión entre instituciones nacionales y de la sociedad civil sobre los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE, a través de sus proyectos e iniciativas de cooperación por la igualdad entre muje-res y hombres, la no violencia de género y la inclusión de todas las personas sin discrimi-nación por orientación sexual, identidad de género o color de la piel.
Un proyecto que contribuyó a cambiar la vida de un grupo de 16 mujeres y de la po-blación residente en la Comunidad de Tránsito del Consejo Popular Latinoamericano, en el municipio habanero del Cerro, culminó el trabajo iniciado en 2011 con un taller de inter-cambio entre actores sociales. Con el título “No a la violencia de género: una respuesta efectiva al VIH”, la experiencia da paso a la iniciativa CASI - “Comunidad amigable, segura e inclusiva”-, que será formulada en 2015 bajo el liderazgo de la Unidad de Promoción de Salud y Prevención de Enfermedades, la FMC y el acompañamiento del PNUD.
Entre los talleres apoyados por PNUD, como receptor principal del Fondo Mundial de Lucha contra el Sida, la Tuberculosis y la Malaria, también destacan en el 2014 los siguien-tes: “Violencia de Género y VIH/sida. Construyendo caminos para el cambio”, del proyecto local “Empoderamiento de la Red de Mujeres Afrodescendientes como respuesta efectiva al VIH”; “Igualdad de género y respuesta efectiva a las ITS-VIH/sida en HSH”, desarrollado en la provincia de Cienfuegos con hombres promotores de salud; y “Género, violencia de género, autocuidado y adherencia al tratamiento”, realizado con educadores pares e inte-grantes de Equipos de Ayuda Mutua de los municipios de Centro Habana y la Habana Vieja.
Estos espacios fortalecieron conocimientos y capacidades de actores clave involucra-dos en la respuesta local al VIH/sida y contribuyeron a aumentar la concientización respec-to a la responsabilidad de todas y todos para poner fin a la violencia hacia mujeres, niñas y personas discriminadas por sus identidades de género. La realización de peñas culturales y la elaboración de un producto comunicativo fueron otras dos acciones relevantes desa-rrolladas en el año.
La prevención y atención a la violencia se colocó como centro del debate en tres instituciones nacionales durante los encuentros que marcaron el inicio de la implementación de los Sistemas de Gestión de Igualdad de Género, también conocidos como “Sellos de Igualdad de Género”, que se impulsan como iniciativas demostrativas cubanas en los sectores de la salud y la agricultura. NO TO VIOLENCE IN RESPONSE TO HIV
The United Nations Development Programme continued to promote the reflection, among national institutions and civil society, on the messages of the UNiTE Campaign by means of its projects and cooperation initiatives for gender equality between men and women, gender non-violence, and the inclusion of every person regardless their sexual orientation, gender identity or skin colour.
A project, which contributed to change the lives of a group of 16 women and the lifestyle of the resident population in a temporary accommodation facility in the Latino Americano Popular Council located in Cerro municipality, concluded an intense working stage that started in 2011 with an exchange workshop with social actors. The experience, with the title “No to Gender Violence: an Effective Response to HIV”, paved the way for the creation of a new initiative entitled “A Friendly, Safe and Inclusive Community-CASI, which will be formulated in 2015 with the leadership of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Unit, FMC and will be supported by UNDP.
Among the workshops supported by UNDP (as the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) were those devoted to “Gender Violence and the HIV/AIDS: Building Roads to Change”, an initiative of the “Empowerment of the African Descendant Women as an Affective Response to HIV” Community Project; “Gender Equality and Effective Response to HIV/AIDS in Men having Sex with Men” held in Cienfuegos province with the participation of male health promoters; and the Workshop on “Gender, Gender Violence, Self-care and Commitment to Treatment” with the participation of peer educators and members of the Mutual Aid Teams of Centro Habana and Habana Vieja municipalities.
These events strengthened the capacities of key actors involved in local responses to HIV/AIDS and contributed to raise awareness regarding the responsibilities of all of us to end violence against women, girls, and people discriminated against for their gender identities. Other relevant actions were the cultural events held and the making of a communicative product.

MASCULINIDADES EN ACCIÓN
Tras un año muy intenso llevando los mensajes de “El valiente no es violento” a todo el país, la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades (RIAM) concentró una parte importante de sus esfuerzos en la promoción de acciones que, de conjunto con artistas y deportistas, llevaron los mensajes de la no violencia machista a espacios escolares, depor-tivos, culturales, comunitarios, académicos y mediáticos.
Para ello contó con la colaboración de la FMC, PEGIN, COSUDE y ONU Mujeres, entre otras entidades nacionales y de la cooperación internacional.
Las acciones que se sucedieron mes tras mes, siempre teniendo en cuenta los Días Naranja, incluyeron talleres conjuntos con la actriz Laura de la Uz, integrante de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE, en la Escuela Elemental de Música “Manuel Saumell”. Siguiendo esta línea de trabajo desde edades tempranas, la RIAM realizó un taller con niñas, niños y adolescen-tes en el espacio deportivo Pepe Barrientos del municipio habanero 10 de Octubre, como parte de sus acciones durante el Campeonato Provincial Pioneril de Voleibol, los días 3 y 4 de mayo.
La RIAM siguió trabajando también en las provincias occidentales de Pinar del Río, donde cuenta con Foros de Masculinidades.
Así, las iniciativas en Pinar del Río incluyeron el Taller “Menos Machos” en coordinación con el proyecto comunitario “Los Chapuserios” del consejo popular La Conchita, concier-tos de la agrupación “Toques del Río”, exposición del grupo de la plástica “Raíces” y un conversatorio con población penal, en alianza con la FMC. En tanto, Matanzas acogió el concierto del pianista Rodrigo García y sus invitados “por un verano a favor de la no violen-cia”, iniciativa conjunta de la RIAM y Tod@s contracorriente.
Trabajar con artistas hombres como David Blanco, con una fuerte capacidad de con-vocatoria entre el público joven, se mantuvo entre las prioridades de la red durante todo el año, así como la presencia en el debate nacional por la no violencia en el deporte o la participación en espacios académicos o congresos internacionales con el tema de las masculinidades y la triada de la violencia machista –aquella que ejercen los hombres contra las mujeres, entre ellos y contra sí mismos.

MASCULINITIES IN ACTION
After a very intense year of taking the messages “The brave is not violent” to every place in the country, the Iberian American and African Network on Masculinity concentrated a great deal of its efforts to the promotion of actions which, carried out with the participation of artists and athletes, took the messages of male-chauvinistic non-violence to schools, sports areas, cultural and community events and other media and academic spaces. FMC, PEGIN, SDC, UN Women, and other national institutions and international cooperation actors supported RIAM.
The actions achieved month after month, always including the observance of the Orange Day, incorporated joint workshops with actress Laura de la Uz, member of the UNiTE Artists Network, at “Manuel Saumell” Music Elementary School. Continuing with the idea of working with children, RIAM introduced a workshop with the participation of girls, boys and teenagers in “Pepe Barrientos” sports space, during the Volleyball Provincial Championship for Children held May 3-4. RIAM, as well, carried on with its efforts in Pinar del Río province, where this non-governmental institution has several active Forums on Masculinities.
The initiatives in Pinar del Río included the Worshop “Fewer Machos” in coordination with “Los Chapuserios” Community Project of “La Conchita” Popular Council; concerts thrown by “Toques del Río” music group; an art exhibition of Raíces Painting Group, and a talk aimed for the penal population in coordination with FMC. Meanwhile, Matanzas province held the concert of pianist Rodrigo García, a joint action developed by RIAM and Tod@scontracorriente Project.
Joining efforts with male artists, like David Blanco who is able to assemble a great number of young people during his presentations, was one of the priorities of RIAM. Other priorities were the presence in the national debate for non-violence within the sports sector and its participation in academic spaces with the topic of masculinities and the presentation of the male-chauvinistic violence triad, which encloses the violence men exert on women, the violence men exert on other men and the violence men exert on themselves.

COMUNICACIÓN PARA EL CAMBIO
Avanzar en la introducción de la perspectiva de género en los medios de comunicación y en la formación de sus futuros profesionales, siguió estando en el centro de los esfuerzos nacionales acompañados por el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en Cuba en el ámbito de la comunicación.
En ese camino, el fortalecimiento de la alianza con la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad de La Habana facilitó que las estudiantes Adriana Castillo, Claudia Martínez y Yaíma Guilarte se sumaran durante todo el 2014 a las coberturas informativas de la Cam-paña y crearan el blog “Naranjearte” -con su respectiva página en Facebook-. La iniciativa de la Facultad de Comunicación sigue de cerca el quehacer de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE y de propuestas culturales diversas que tienen como denominador común la promoción de la igualdad entre todas las personas.
Asimismo, estudiantes de varios años de las tres carreras de esa facultad - Periodismo, Comunicación Social y Ciencias de la Información - promovieron espacios de debate sobre la violencia contra las mujeres y “pintaron de naranja” los pasillos de ese centro de altos estudios. Junto al estudiantado, profesoras como Isabel Moya y Sulema Rodríguez abrieron espacio en sus turnos de clase para presentar la Campaña ÚNETE del Secretario General.
A los esfuerzos por trabajar con profesionales del futuro, se sumó una iniciativa para llevar el debate a aquellas personas en puestos de decisión o técnicos, que no suelen par-ticipar en los espacios de capacitación en los temas de género. La alianza con la Cátedra de Género y Comunicación Mirta Aguirre del Instituto Internacional de Periodismo José Martí apuesta, además, por la introducción de la materia de Género en el curriculum de las carreras de Periodismo y Comunicación Social.
La Campaña estuvo también en el XI Encuentro Iberoamericano de Género y Comunicación, y en los encuentros regionales que le antecedieron, con paneles sobre el tratamiento mediático de la violencia de género, la violencia en las transmisiones deportivas y en los videoclips y en la presentación de buenas prácticas. COMMUNICATION FOR CHANGE
Advancing in the introduction of a gender perspective in the communication media and in the training courses of media future professionals continued to be in the centre of national efforts, supported by the United Nations System in Cuba, in the communication sector.
In this direction, the strengthening of the partnership with the School of Communication at the University of Havana allowed students Adriana Castillo, Claudia Martínez and Yaíma Guillarte to be part of the news coverage of the Campaign and to create the blog “Naranjearte” with its corresponding webpage on Facebook. This initiative of the School of Communication keeps track of the activities performed by the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network and other cultural activities that have, as a common denominator, the promotion of equality among people.
Likewise, students of different years of the three BAs offered at the school (Journalism, Social Communication, and Information Sciences) promoted debate spaces on violence against women and “painted” the corridors of this higher education centre “orange”. In conjunction with the student body, professors, like Isabel Moya and Sulema Rodríguez, scheduled some time of their class periods to introduce students to the UNiTE Campaign launched by UN Secretary General.
Another initiative was added to the efforts designed to train the future professionals. This initiative was launched to take the debate on gender violence to those people in technical and decision-making positions who do not usually participate in training courses on gender issues. The partnership with “Mirta Aguirre” Programme on Gender and Communication at the “José Martí” International Institute of Journalism seeks for the introduction of a Gender subject in the programmes of study of Journalism and Social Communication

COMUNICAR CON GÉNERO EN FERIA DEL LIBRO
Las relaciones entre el feminismo y las diferentes manifestaciones del arte y la presencia de la mujer en la literatura infantil, centraron las intervenciones en el panel “En el bicentenario de la Avellaneda: comunicar con género”, organizado por el Grupo Interagencial de Género del Sis-tema de las Naciones Unidas en la antesala de la 23 Feria Internacional del Libro Cuba 2014.
El pretexto de dos siglos del natalicio de la escritora camagüeyana Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda convocó a escritores, periodistas y especialistas para dialogar sobre los desa-fíos en materia de género que enfrenta la sociedad cubana y sus vínculos con los espacios socializadores como la literatura, la educación y los medios de comunicación.
La investigadora Cira Romero, la periodista Helen Hormilla y el escritor Enrique Pérez Díaz, se sumaron al panel que complementó las acciones de distribución de información digital sobre la violencia contra las mujeres, realizadas por el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en su stand en la sede principal de La Cabaña.
En el encuentro, realizado en la Asociación Cubana de Naciones Unidas (ACNU), se pre-sentó el folleto “Letra con género: propuesta para el tratamiento de la violencia de género en los medios de comunicación”, un aporte de la periodista Isabel Moya a la Campaña ÚNETE, que contó con el apoyo de ONU Mujeres, UNFPA y de la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.
Asimismo, la investigadora Mayda Álvarez dio a conocer su libro “Buenas prácticas en la introducción del enfoque de género en la Educación Superior”.

GENDER-AWARE COMMUNICATION AT BOOK FAIR
The relationship between feminism and different art manifestations as well as the presence of women in children’s literature were greatly discussed by participants in the panel “In the Bicentennial of Avellaneda: Gender-Aware Communication,” organised by the Interagency Group on Gender Issues of the United Nations System in Cuba prior to the beginning of the 23rd International Book Fair in 2014.
With the pretext of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Camaguey writer Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, the panel brought together writers, journalists and specialists to dialogue on various of the gender challenges Cuban society faces, and their links with socialising spaces such as literature, education, and the mass media.
The panel, which included researcher Cira Romero, journalist Helen Hormilla and writer Enrique Pérez Díaz, also complemented actions organised by the United Nations System in Cuba to distribute digital information on violence against women at its stand, located in the main venue of the International Book Fair in La Cabaña.
During the event, held at the United Nations Cuban Association, the booklet Letters with Gender: a Proposal for the Treatment of Gender-Based Violence in the Media, was presented by its author, journalist Isabel Moya, as a contribution to the UNiTE Campaign.The event was supported by UN Women, UNFPA, and the Office of the Resident Coordinator.
Likewise, the researcher Mayda Álvarez presented her book, Best Practices for the Introduction of the Gender Approach in Higher Education.

PREMIO ÚNETE A PERIODISTA CUBANA
Por una serie de tres reportajes periodísticos que demuestran el “compromiso sistemático por la no violencia hacia las mujeres y las niñas”, la joven periodista cubana Marleidys Muñoz recibió el Premio ÚNETE que entrega el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en Cuba como parte de la Campaña del Secretario General.
Preparada en los cursos de Género y Comunicación impulsados por la Cátedra de Gé-nero y Comunicación del Instituto Internacional de Periodismo “José Martí”, la periodista del telecentro provincial de Cienfuegos Perlavisión recibió el reconocimiento durante el Concurso y Evento teórico de periodismo audiovisual “Ania Pino in memoriam”, organizado por el Centro Memorial Martin Luther king, la Asociación Hermanos Saíz y el Canal Habana.
El jurado estuvo presidido por la Coordinadora de Programas de UNICEF y coordinadora del Grupo Interagencial de Género del SNU en Cuba, Begoña Arellano, e integrado por la Asistente de Prensa de la Oficina Regional de Cultura para América Latina y el Caribe de la UNESCO, Elena Nápoles, y la consultora de la Campaña ÚNETE en la Oficina de la Coordi-nadora Residente, Dalia Acosta.
El encuentro incluyó un panel sobre la violencia en los medios de comunicación. La cantante Rochy Ameneiro, el historiador Julio César González Pagés y el periodista Julio E. Muñoz promovieron el debate sobre videoclips musicales y transmisiones deportivas. El espacio cerró con la presentación y entrega en formato digital del manual “Letra con género: una propuesta para el tratamiento de la violencia en los medios de comunicación”, de la periodista Isabel Moya.

CUBAN JOURNALIST WINS UNITE AWARD
The young Cuban journalist Marleidys Muñoz received the UNiTE Award granted by the United Nations System in Cuba as part of the Campaign launched by UN Secretary General, for a series of three journalistic pieces, which show the “systematic commitment towards non-violence against women and girls.”
Graduated of the courses on Gender and Communication of the Programme on Gender and Communication at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism, the journalist from provincial television Perlavisión in Cienfuegos received the accolades during the “Ania Pino in Memoriam” Audiovisual Journalism Contest and Theoretical Meeting organised by the Martin Luther king Jr. Memorial Centre, the Hermanos Saíz Association and the Habana Channel.
The jury was presided by UNICEF Programme Coordinator and Coordinator of the Interagency Group on Gender Issues of the United Nations System in Cuba, Begoña Arellano, and members Elena Nápoles, Press Assistant of UNESCO Culture Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Dalia Acosta, UNiTE Campaign Consultant to the Office of the Resident Coordinator in Cuba.

Muñoz sparked the debate on music videos and sports programmes, which concluded with the presentation and distribution, in digital form, of the booklet Letters with Gender: a Proposal for the Treatment of Gender-Based Violence in the Media written by journalist Isabel Moya.
The event also included the projection of audiovisual materials of the UNiTE Campaign and RIAM on the walls of the Cuban Art Factory and ended with a concert of David Torrens, founding member of the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network.

ÚNETE EN FESTIVAL DE CINE DE LA HABANA
La actriz Laura de la Uz y el actor Luis Alberto García escriben en tarjetas naranjas palabras como igualdad, mujeres, respeto, derechos, y terminan formando el mensaje de la Campa-ña ÚNETE en Cuba: “Yo digo NO a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas”. El spot de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas y el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en Cuba pudo verse en cada proyección del 36 Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana.
Las acciones de incidencia de la Campaña ÚNETE contaron con el apoyo de la Emba-jada de Noruega e incluyeron un mensaje en los 30 000 pasaportes que se vendieron a la población con entradas para 15 funciones.
Siguiendo la experiencia de los dos últimos años, un jurado presidido por Fernando Brugman, Oficial a cargo de la Oficina Regional de Cultura de la UNESCO, e integra-do por la realizadora estadounidense Catherine Murphy y el realizador y comunica-dor cubano Rolando Almirante, entregaron el Premio ÚNETE a la película “Refugiado” del director argentino Diego Lerman, coproducción entre Argentina, Polonia, Colombia, Francia y Alemania.
Como parte de la presencia de la Campaña en el Festival, el Grupo de Género y Cultura “Mirar desde la sospecha” organizó un panel con estudiantes de la Facultad de Arte de los Medios de Comunicación Audiovisuales que han cambiado “la mirada” y, por ende su obra, a partir de los conocimientos de género.
ÚNETE estuvo también presente en cada función de “Vestido de novia”, ópera prima de la directora cubana y Artista ÚNETE Marilyn Solaya que se alzó con el Premio del Público y una mención de honor en la sección de ópera prima, entre otros premios colaterales.
El artista de la plástica Juan Carlos García donó al Sistema de las Naciones Unidas su obra “Mujer Habitada II” para el Premio ÚNETE en el 36 Festival de La Habana. Integrante de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE, Juan Carlos ha sido siempre un activo participante en los debates sobre género y en los espacios de la Campaña en Cuba. THE UNITE CAMPAIGN AT THE HAVANA FILM FESTIVAL
Actress Laura de la Uz and actor Luis Alberto García write on orange cards single words such as equality, women, respect, rights, and end their performance by completing the message of the UNiTE Campaign in Cuba “I say No to violence against women and girls”. Those images, belonging to the spot of the FMC directed by Deymi Perdomo and supported by UN Women, were seen by moviegoers before each film and documentary screening during the 36th Latin American Film Festival in Havana City.
The actions undertaken were supported by the Embassy of Norway in Cuba. The 30 thousand ticket passports sold to the public for the exhibitions, allowing the entrance to 15 films, included a message of the Campaign.
Carrying on with the experience of the previous two years, a jury presided by Fernando Brugman, Culture Programme Coordinator at UNESCO Regional Office for Culture, and members Catherine Murphy, American director, and Rolando Almirante, Cuban director and communicator, granted the UNiTE Award to the film Refugiado (The Refugee), a co-production of Argentina, Poland, Colombia, France and Germany, directed by Argentinean filmmaker Diego Lerman.
Another action achieved during the festival, as part of the UNiTE Campaign, was the debate panel with university students of the School of Arts and Audiovisual Communication Media, who have changed their ways of approaching gender phenomena and, therefore changed their work, due to their current knowledge on gender. This panel was organised by “Mirar desde la sospecha” Group on Gender and Culture.
The UNiTE Campaign was also present during each screening of the Cuban film “Vestido de novia”, directorial debut of Marilyn Solaya.The film won the People’s Choice Award of the Film Festival and received the Honorary Award for Best Opera Prima, among other top prizes.

RED DE ARTISTAS EN ACTIVO
Tras un primer encuentro para identificar retos y oportunidades, integrantes de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE se involucraron en la preparación del Taller “Cultura vs violencia: estra-tegias y compromisos desde l@s artistas” que, el 25 de septiembre, atrajo a más de 30 representantes del arte, el activismo y la comunicación. Desde la vecina provincia de Pinar del Río llegaron, además, músicos de la agrupación Toques del Río y artistas del grupo de la plástica Raíces.
Facilitado por la periodista Isabel Moya y el escritor Julio César González Pagés, la iniciativa conjunta de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas, la Red de Artistas ÚNETE y el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en Cuba contó con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega, COSUDE y la Editorial de la Mujer.
Para cerrar el año, la FMC y el SNU se unieron al Grupo de Género y Cultura “Mirar desde la sospecha” y a la Red de Artistas ÚNETE para la realización del Taller “Género y Creación: el compromiso de mirar”, con el apoyo de la Embajada de Noruega. Más de 30 personas del mundo de la cultura, la educación y la promoción de salud acudieron los días 18 y 19 de noviembre a las conferencias sobre género, feminismo, violencia contra las mujeres y la mi-rada de género en los audiovisuales, de las profesoras Magela Romero y Danae C. Diéguez.
Las iniciativas de sensibilización y formación de artistas en género y creación fueron acompañadas desde el SNU en el país por UNESCO y la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.

ACTIVE CUBANS IN THE UNITE ARTISTS NETWORK
After a first meeting designed to identify challenges and opportunities, members of the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network were involved in the preparation of the Workshop on “Culture vs. Violence: Strategies and Commitments from the Artists´ Perspective”, held September 25, which brought together more than 30 representatives of the arts, activism and communication areas. As well, musicians of the Toques del Río Music Group and artists of the Raíces Painting Group, from Pinar del Río province, assisted to the workshop.
Having as facilitators journalist Isabel Moya and writer Julio César González Pagés, the joint initiative of the Federation of Cuban Women, the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network and the United Nations System in Cuba was supported by the Embassy of Norway, the SDC and the Women´s Publishing House.
To conclude the year, the FMC and the UNS joined the “Mirar desde la sospecha” Study Group on Gender and Culture and the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network to develop the Workshop on “Gender and Creation: Looking, a Commitment” supported by the Embassy of Norway. Held November 18-19, more than 30 representatives of culture, education, and health promotion sectors attended the conferences on gender, feminism, violence against women, and the gender perspective in audiovisual materials taught by specialists Magela Romero and Danae C. Diéguez.
The initiatives to raise awareness and train the artists on gender and creation were supported by the United Nations System in Cuba via UNESCO and the Office of the Resident Coordinator.

COMPROMISO DESDE LAS ARTES
Con el aporte de músicos, actores y actrices, realizadores audiovisuales, artistas de la plástica, especialistas de la televisión y comunicadores, la Red de Artistas ÚNETE siguió creciendo en Cuba a partir del compromiso y el activismo de sus integrantes y de quienes, a decir de la cantante Rochy Ameneiro, son Artistas ÚNETE de corazón.
Un primer momento para la formalización de las nuevas adhesiones tuvo lugar el 25 de septiembre cuando, al cierre del Taller “Cultura vs violencia: estrategias y compromisos desde l@s artistas”, un grupo de artistas entregaron su compromiso naranja a la Coordi-nadora Residente del SNU en Cuba, Myrta kaulard.
Dos meses después, la segunda oportunidad llegó el 25 de noviembre cuando otros cuatro artistas su sumaron durante la proyección especial de la película mexicana Heli, Premio ÚNETE 2013. La iniciativa fue organizada por el Proyecto Palomas, con el apoyo de la FMC, la RIAM, PEGIN, el Proyecto 23, COSUDE, el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas y la Embajada de Noruega.
Más de 800 personas acudieron a la sala de cine 23 y 12 en la capital cubana en respuesta a la invitación promovida por la realizadora y activista Lizette Vila, quien se sumara a la Red de Artistas ÚNETE en 2013. COMMITMENT FROM THE ARTS
With the inputs of musicians, actors and actresses, audiovisual directors, plastic arts creators, TV specialists and communicators, the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network continued to grow in Cuba by the commitment and activism of its members who, in words of singer Rochy Ameneiro, are UNiTE artists from the heart.
A first meeting to formalise the new adherences to the Network was held September 25 when, at the closing stage of the Workshop on “Culture vs. Violence: Strategies and Commitments from the Artists´ Perspective”, a group of artists presented their orange commitment to the Resident Coordinator of the UNS in Cuba, Myrta kaulard.
Two months later, a second meeting was held November 25 when other four artists joined the Network during the especial exhibition of the Mexican film Heli, winner of the 2013 UNiTE Award. The initiative was organised by Palomas Project and supported by FMC, RIAM, the Gender Equality with National Incidence Programme, Project 23, SDC, the United Nations System in Cuba, and the Embassy of Norway.
More than 800 people attended the exhibition in 23 y 12 Movie Theatre in Havana, as a response to the invitation promoted by audiovisual director and activist, Lizette Vila, who joined the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network in 2013. The spectators left their testimonies for non-violence on orange cardboard pieces and took home with them different informative materials, condoms and especially, orange origami, created by Palomas Project for this special occasion.

El proyecto Tod@s contracorriente, liderado por la cantante e integrante de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE Rochy Ameneiro, siguió su activismo por la no violencia durante todo el año 2014.
Siempre dispuesta a llevar su experiencia a los espacios de debate, aliada de la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades (RIAM) y promotora de los mensajes de la Campaña ÚNETE, Rochy recibió este año la distinción 23 de agosto de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas. En esa ocasión, la FMC reconoció también el aporte del profesor Julio César González Pagés, quien durante años ha asesorado la propuesta de Tod@s contracorriente.
Dando continuidad a las giras nacionales de 2012 y 2013 por la no violencia, 2014 se inició con una gira por los barrios de la capital cubana. Esta vez, los conciertos-talleres se realizaron de conjunto con la especialista María Teresa Díaz del Grupo de Reflexión y Solidaridad “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” y llegaron a poblaciones adolescentes y jóvenes de ocho municipios habaneros.
La iniciativa contó con el respaldo del Instituto Cubano de la Música, la FMC, COSUDE, OIkOS, UNICEF y la Embajada de Noruega e incluyó un concierto en la Casa del Alba, por el 8 de marzo, que sumó las obras del proyecto Calladita no estás más bonita, de la artista de la plástica Paulina Márquez.
En acciones conjuntas con la RIAM, el proyectoTod@s contracorriente llevó la Campa-ña ÚNETE a Jagüey Grande, en Matanzas; participó en una jornada dominical en las áreas del proyecto comunitario Arte Corte, como parte de una iniciativa promovida por la Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana y COSUDE; y cerró el año con un concierto por el 25 de noviembre con el apoyo de COSUDE, la Casa del Alba, el Instituto Cubano de la Música y la Rueda Producciones.
A lo que fue considerada una noche memorable, se sumaron David Blanco, Aldo López-Gavilán, Rodrigo García, Tania Haaze, Pepe Ordaz, Augusto Blanca, Waldo Leyva, Jan Cruz, Diego Gutiérrez y las niñas de 6 años Adriana y Andrea López-Gavilán García.

The project Tod@s contracorriente, led by member of the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network Rochy Ameneiro, continued its activism for non-violence during the whole year 2014.
Always willing to express her experiences in spaces of debate, Rochy (also a partner of RIAM and promoter of the messages of the UNiTE Campaign) received this year the August 23rd distinction, the highest honour awarded by the Federation of Cuban Women. At the ceremony, the FMC also acknowledged the contributions of professor Julio César González Pagés, who has advised the project Tod@s contracorriente for many years.
As part of the actions achieved during the 2012 and 2013 National Tours for Non-violence, a tour around the neighbourhoods of Havana City began in 2014. This time, the concert-workshops were organised in close collaboration with OAR specialist María Teresa Díaz, and aimed at populations of teenagers and young people in eight municipalities of Havana.
The initiative was supported by the Cuban Music Institute, FMC, SDC, OIkOS, UNICEF and the Embassy of Norway in Cuba, and included a concert at Alba Centre in celebration of March 8th, International Women’s Day, which was accompanied by an art exhibition of the Calladita no estás más bonita Project, led by plastic artist Paulina Márquez.
Working closely to RIAM, the project Tod@s contracorriente took the UNiTE Campaign to Jaguey Grande, in Matanzas province;participated in the activities of Arte Corte Community Project on a Sunday in its premises, as part of an initiative undertaken by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana and SDC; and concluded the actions of the year with a concert held November 25 at Alba Centre, which was supported by SDC, Alba Centre, the Cuban Music Institute and Rueda Productions.
That memorable night assembled artists David Blanco, Aldo López-Gavilán, Rodrigo García, Tania Haaze, Pepe Ordaz, Augusto Blanca, Waldo Leyva, Jan Cruz, Carlos Gutiérrez and six-year-old girls Adriana and Andrea López-Gavilán García.

MÚSICA POR LA NO VIOLENCIA
Con un concierto para celebrar sus 13 años de vida artística, el nuevo año y el cierre de los 16 Días de Activismo por la No Violencia, el músico cubano David Blanco regaló a su público un concierto memorable, con luces moradas y naranjas, y una apuesta a favor de la no violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.
Unas 3.000 personas acudieron al teatro karl Marx, en la capital cubana, para disfrutar de la propuesta del integrante de la Red de Artistas ÚNETE y sus invitados Ernesto Blanco, Adrián Berazaín, Tanya, los grupos Síntesis y Cuba Libre, entre otros. En los momentos previos a la función, muchachas y muchachos de las facultades de Filosofía e Historia y Comunicación de la Universidad de La Habana, vestidos de naranja, distribuyeron plega-bles de la Campaña ÚNETE Cuba con el mensaje “Yo digo No”.
Con el apoyo de ONU Mujeres y de la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades (RIAM), el concierto se sumó a varias acciones emprendidas por el músico desde que en 2013 grabara el spot de la Campaña ÚNETE para el 35 Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoa-mericano de La Habana con el mensaje “El silencio nos hace cómplices... yo digo NO a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas”.
Bajo la asesoría del entonces coordinador general de la RIAM y también Artista ÚNETE Julio César González Pagés, David entregó a la televisión nacional un concierto documental y el videoclip “Lánzate”, que acompañó las transmisiones en Cuba de la Copa Mundial de Fútbol Brasil 2014 con un mensaje a favor del cambio desde las masculinidades y la invi-tación a decir No a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.

MUSIC FOR NON-VIOLENCE
With a concert to celebrate his thirteen years of artistic life, New Year’s and the closing of the 16 Days of Activism for Non-violence, musician David Blanco presented his audience with a memorable concert that, with orange and purple lights on the stage, was dedicated to non-violence against women and girls.
Around three thousand people attended the concert held at karl Marx Theatre in Havana to enjoy the music proposal of the member of the Cubans in the UNiTE Artists Network and musical guests Ernesto Blanco, Adrián Berazaín, Tanya, Sintesis Music Group, Cuba Libre among others. Prior to the show, female and male students of the School of Philosophy and History and of the School of Communication at the University of Havana, all dressed in orange, distributed brochures of the UNiTE Campaign in Cuba with the message “I Say No”.
Supported by UN Women and RIAM, the concert was another of the several actions developed by the musician, who in 2013 shot the UNiTE Campaign spot for the 35th International Latin American Film Festival of Havana with the message “Silence makes us accomplices. I say NO to violence against women and girls”.
With the counselling of former RIAM general coordinator and UNiTE artist Julio César González Pagés, David presented the national television with a concert-documentary and the music video “Lánzate”, that was part of the daily television broadcast of the Brazil 2014 Football World Cup, and which carried a message in favour of a change from a masculinity perspective and the invitation to say No to violence against women and girls.

DESDE LA ESCENA
El color naranja de la Campaña ÚNETE subió a escena a finales de año durante la segun-da puesta de un espectáculo unipersonal de la actriz Laura de la Uz, con el apoyo de la FMC, PEGIN, COSUDE y la Oficina Cultural de la Embajada de España. Estrenado durante el festival “Ellas crean” y repuesto durante el 36 Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de la Habana, “Reality Show” es un homenaje de la artista a las mujeres anónimas, creadoras y artistas, pero también trabajadoras, madres, amigas, hijas, que viven una cotidianidad a menudo invisibilizada.
Dedicado especialmente a la no violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas, la obra se sumó a otros esfuerzos desde la escena cubana por reflejar la problemática y promover el debate. Entre los aportes más relevantes durante el año estuvo “Cualquier lugar menos este”, una propuesta de Berenjena Teatro que atrajo al público habanero durante sus fun-ciones en el Café Teatro Bertolt Brecht.
Con el apoyo de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz, el Centro Félix Varela y el acompañamien-to de la UNESCO, la obra tuvo una importante repercusión en los medios de comunicación y fue puesta a disposición de la Campaña, de instituciones y organizaciones cubanas que quieran promover el debate a partir de la historia de dos mujeres que, por vías muy dife-rentes, logran salir de la violencia en que viven.

FROM THE STAGE
The orange colour of the UNiTE Campaign was part of the setting of the theatrical play performed for its second time by actress Laura de la Uz at the end of the year; play that was supported by FMC, PEGIN, SDC, the Culture Office and the Embassy of Spain in Cuba. Premiered during the festival “Ellas crean” and played again during the 36th International Latin American Film Festival of Havana, “Reality Show” pays homage to those anonymous women, not only creators and artists, but also workers, mothers, friends, and daughters who carry on with their daily lives in such a way that sometimes are invisible to others.
Especially dedicated to non-violence against women and girls, the play was part of the efforts supported by Cuban stage artists to reflect on gender issues and promote the debate. Among the most significant efforts of the year was the play “Cualquier lugar menos este” brought by Berejena Teatro and which attracted the attention of the people of Havana during its presentations at Bertolt Brecht Café-Theatre.
Supported by Hermanos Saíz Association, Félix Varela Centre and UNESCO, the play had an important repercussion in the communication media; and its actors allowed the Campaign, and Cuban institutions and organizations to use the play to spark the debate anywhere and anytime, taking as a basis the story of two women who, by different ways, are able to get out from the violent situations they live in.

DEPORTISTAS POR LA NO VIOLENCIA
Al recibir su medalla de oro en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Veracruz 2014 el 25 de noviembre, el luchador cubano Ismael Borrego dedicó su triunfo a la no violencia contra las mujeres.
Además del equipo de fútbol que se alzó con la medalla de bronce en los mencionados juegos subregionales, el subcampeón mundial de salto de altura Víctor Moya y la árbitro de fútbol Ivett Santiago Rodríguez se han sumado a los esfuerzos de la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades para trabajar con sus colegas y en los espacios deportivos por la no violencia.
El recorrido iniciado el pasado año por la RIAM en el ámbito deportivo, fue presentado el 10 de diciembre por sus protagonistas durante el Taller “Contra el machismo jugamos tod@s”, dedicado al cierre de los 16 Días de Activismo por la No Violencia de género y el Día de los Derechos Humanos.
El vínculo entre la violencia contra las mujeres y los derechos humanos, el activismo desde los espacios deportivos universitarios y la necesidad del cuidado y autocuidado de quienes se someten a intensos entrenamientos durante largos períodos de tiempo con serias afectaciones para su salud, estuvieron en el centro de los debates.
Asimismo, se reconoció el trabajo de la emisora radial COCO, el liderazgo de las mujeres periodistas de la televisión nacional Niurka Talancón y Daily Sánchez Lemus; la posibilidad de vincular arte y deporte en espacios universitarios y la oportunidad que ofrecen proyec-tos comunitarios como uno de fútbol de salón liderado por el entrenador Yoelvis Sánchez.
Inaugurada por Theodor Friedrich, representante de la FAO en Cuba y Coordinador Re-sidente interino del SNU en el país, la iniciativa contó con el apoyo de la FMC, el Programa de Equidad de Género con Incidencia Nacional (PEGIN), la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades, COSUDE y ONU Mujeres, con el acompañamiento de la Oficina de la Coordinadora Residente.
La Red de Deportistas ÚNETE y la RIAM despidieron este año a dos de sus miembros: el veterano Eugenio George, reconocido como el mejor entrenador de voleibol femenino del siglo XX, y el kayakista de 26 años, Maikel Zulueta Arencibia. The UNiTE Athletes Network and RIAM bade farewell, this year, to two of their members: Eugenio George, acknowledged as the best coach of female volleyball of the 20th century and 26-year-old kayaker Maikel Zulueta Arencibia.

ATHLETES FOR NON-VIOLENCE
After receiving his gold medal during the Veracruz 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, on November 25, Cuban wrestler Ismael Borrego dedicated his award to non-violence against women.
In addition to the members of the Cuban football team, who won the bronze medal in the mentioned regional games, the silver medallist of pole vault Víctor Moya and the football female referee Ivett Santiago Rodríguez joined the Iberian American and African Network on Masculinity in order to raise non-violence awareness in their peers in different sports environments.
The journey, begun last year by RIAM in the sports sector, was presented on December 10 by its main protagonists during the Workshop entitled “We All Play against Male-chauvinism”, dedicated to the closing of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence and the International Day of Human Rights.
The links between gender violence against women and human rights; the activism that can be achieved from university sports facilities; and the necessity of athletes, who undertake intense training during long periods of time, of taking care of themselves and others were in the centre of the debates.
Likewise, the efforts carried out by COCO Radio Station of Havana were acknowledged, as well as the leadership of female journalists of national television Niurka Talancón and Daily Sánchez Lemus; other efforts that were praised were the possibility of connecting arts and sports in university environments, and the opportunity community projects offer to people, such as a football project led by coach Yoelvis Sánchez.

FÚTBOL SE VISTE DE NARANJA
A inicios del 2014 uno de los juegos del Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol de Cuba abrió sus puertas con una acción sin precedentes en el contexto deportivo nacional: el equipo de fútbol de La Habana entregó a su contrincante de la provincia de Holguín los plegables naranja de la Campaña ÚNETE para poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas.
El torneo fue transmitido por la televisión nacional, aumentando así el impacto de esta acción promovida por la Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades (RIAM) y la Red de Deportistas ÚNETE, surgida en Cuba en agosto de 2013 como una acción conjunta de la RIAM y ONU Mujeres en el marco de la iniciativa “El valiente no es violento”.
Avalada por una investigación sobre gustos juveniles, la RIAM ha colocado la mirada en el fútbol como el juego que más está siguiendo la juventud en Cuba y por la importancia del deporte como socializador de actitudes. Así, estrechó aún más sus vínculos con el equipo de fútbol de la Facultad de Filosofía e Historia de la Universidad de La Habana que llevó los mensajes de la no violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas a la Copa Naranja, organizada con los equipos de las universidades de las provincias de Matanzas y Pinar del Río a través de los Foros de Masculinidades de esas provincias.
Como un momento de gran impacto durante el año, estuvo la presentación del videoclip “Lánzate” del Artista ÚNETE David Blanco que, con el apoyo de la RIAM y ONU Mujeres, logró acompañar las transmisiones televisivas del Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol en Cuba con un mensaje a favor de la no violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas. “Lánzate” fue también el pretexto para hacer coincidir en más de una mesa de debate a David Blanco con deportistas y activistas de la RIAM.

FOOTBALL WEARS ORANGE
At the beginning of 2014, one of the matches of the Football National Championship opened with an unprecedented action within the national sports context: the members of the football team from Havana City handed in orange brochures of the UNiTE Campaign to end violence against women and girls to their contenders from Holguin province.
The tournament was broadcasted nationally; thus increasing the impact of this action promoted by RIAM and the UNiTE Athletes Network; network which was created in August 2013 as part of “The brave is not violent” initiative framework.
Corroborated by a research on sports tastes of the youth conducted by RIAM, football is currently the most followed sport in Cuba; therefore, it stands as a medium to socialise attitudes.
The before-mentioned research also tightened the links between RIAM and the men’s football team of the School of Philosophy and History at the University of Havana, whose members took the messages of non-violence against women and girls to the Orange Cup, a championship organised with the participation of the football teams of the University of Matanzas and the University of Pinar del Río.
One of the most stimulating moments of the year was the exhibition of the music video “Lánzate” written and performed by artist David Blanco. This music video, supported by RIAM and UN Women, was part of the daily television broadcast of the Football World Cup taking the message of non-violence against women and girls to every Cuban home. “Lánzate” became also the best reason to assemble David Blanco, athletes and RIAM activists in more than one debate.

“Hola Habana”, del canal de la capital de Cuba, se compro-
metió a dedicar la transmisión de cada Día Naranja a temas
vinculados a la violencia contra las mujeres. Tres meses des-
pués, la Fábrica de Arte Cubano invitó a sus seguidores a
acudir cada Día Naranja a la FAC con una prenda del color de
la Campaña del Secretario General.
Por su parte, el Jueves de la Embajada de la Consejería Cul-
tural de la Embajada de España en Cuba, entregó el 25 de
septiembre su Certificado de Adhesión a la Campaña ÚNE-
TE. El compromiso quedó sellado durante un panel con la
participación de Julio César González Pagés, Rochy Ame-
neiro y David Blanco, todos Artistas ÚNETE, y la periodista
Isabel Moya.
En tanto, el Proyecto Palomas sumó a la Campaña ÚNETE
las presentaciones del documental de Ingrid León “Mujeres...
la hora dorada”, un esfuerzo que contó con el apoyo de PE-
GIN y COSUDE, entre otras entidades nacionales y de la coo-
peración internacional.

to dedicate the broadcast of every Orange Day to topics
related to violence against women. Three months later, the
Cuban Art Factory invited its followers to attend every Orange
Day at FAC wearing orange clothing to observe the UNiTE
Campaign launched by UN Secretary General.
In addition, the debate space organised monthly by the
Culture Council of the Embassy of Spain in Cuba every 4th
Thursday was presented with its Certificate of Personal
Adherence to the UNiTE Campaign on September 25. The
commitment was sealed during the presentation of a panel
integrated by Julio César González Pagés, Rochy Amenerio,
David Blanco, all the members of the Cubans in the UNiTE
Artists Newtwork and journalist Isabel Moya.
In addition, Palomas Project, as part of the UNiTE Campaign
activities, exhibited “Mujeres... la hora dorada”, a documentary
by Ingrid León; action that was supported by PEGIN, SDC,
and other national and international cooperation institutions.
