Parque Regional Lomas de ArenaEl Parque Regional Lomas de Arena, es un área protegida del Departamento de Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Se encuentra ubicado a 12 kilometros

sureste de la ciudad de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, y es uno de los puntos turísticos más importantes del departamento.El Parque conserva muestras representativas de bosque húmedo transicional chaqueño y sabanas naturales que albergan una variada diversidad de fauna silvestre como: zarigüeyas, carachupas, osos hormigueros, perezosos; al menos 12 especies de murciélagos, monos martin, meleros, tejones, zorros, jochis, urinas, taitetú entre otros. Se registraron un total de 286 especies de aves, las cuales representan el 21% de las aves registradas para Bolivia, entre ellas están: pava campanilla, paraba roja, bato y otras. El Parque alberga aproximadamente 50

especies de reptiles de los cuales 27 son anfibios.Lo sobresaliente de este Parque son sus dunas de arena que alcanzan hasta 12 metros de altura. Aparte de las dunas el Parque ofrece también planicies y áreas de bosques. En la época de lluvia se forman varias lagunas dentro del Parque, por lo tanto, el Parque con sus dunas y lagunas

tiene al atributo de una playa para la gente del lugar.

Centro de Ecología Aplicada Simón I. PatiñoFundado en 1996, el Centro de Ecología Aplicada Simón I. Patiño se dedica a la promoción y el desarrollo de métodos de cultivo

agroecológicos en terrenos poco profundos, arenosos, muy pobres en nutrientes y agotados tras años de monocultivos intensivos.Asimismo, sus esfuerzos se articulan en torno a la rehabilitación y el establecimiento de una reserva genética de la raza bovina Criolla. Esta raza, casi extinguida, fue introducida en América Latina hace más de 500 años y ‘mejorada’ a lo largo del tiempo cruzándola con razas europeas

y asiáticas.Los métodos desarrollados por el Centro en el ámbito de la agricultura y la ganadería son intercambiados sistemáticamente con las

comunidades locales y con estudiantes e investigadores nacionales e internacionales.Situado en las afueras de la ciudad de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, en los extremos del Parque Regional Lomas de Arena, el Centro es una de las

últimas zonas verdes protegidas de la ciudad.

Lomas de Arena Regional ParkThe Lomas de Arena Regional Park is a protected area within the State of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is located 12 kilometers southeast of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and is one of the most important tourist points of the state.The Park preserves representative samples of transitional chaqueño rainforest and natural savannahs that host a varied diversity of wild fauna such as: opossums, carachupas, anteaters, sloths; at least 12 species of bats, martin monkeys, meleans, badgers, foxes, jochis, urinas, taitetu among others. A total of 286 species of birds were registered, which represent 21% of the birds registered for Bolivia, among them are: pava campanilla, paraba roja, bato and others. The Park houses approximately 50 species of reptiles, of which 27 are amphibians.The highlights of this Park are its sand dunes that reach up to 12 meters high. Apart from the dunes, the Park also offers plains and forest areas. Center for Applied Ecology Simón I. PatiñoFounded in 1996, the Center for Applied Ecology Simón I. Patiño is dedicated to the promotion and development of agro-ecological farming methods in shallow, sandy soils, very poor in nutrients and depleted, after years of intensive monocultures.Their efforts are articulated around the rehabilitation and establishment of a genetic reserve of the Creole bovine race.
