Antecedentes del enfoque centrado en la persona (ECP) en Mxico.

El Doctor en Psicologa, Juan Lafarga en su regreso a Mxico, despus de haber estudiado una maestra y doctorado en Psicologa clnica en la Universidad de Loyola en la Ciudad de Chicago, E.U.A., admiraba con asombro el nivel que los psiclogos mexicanos posean a comparacin de los estudiantes de psicologa en el pas norteamericano. Este descubrimiento lo motiv a tratar de implementar el Enfoque Centrado en la Persona (ECP) con bases psicoteraputicas, que haba aprendido gracias a los estudios que haba realizado Carls Rogers, influyente psiclogo en la historia estadounidense quin haba fundado el primer counseling center en el que efecta su terapia y realiza investigaciones y de la cual Lafarga aprende y quiere transmitir a los nuevos psiclogos mexicanos este nuevo conocimiento psicoteraputico.Sin embargo, los psiquiatras y psiclogos que impartan clases en la UNAM y en la universidad Iberoamericana, mantenan resistencia a la propuesta del Dr. Lafarga, ya que no sentan que los psiclogos egresados de la licenciatura, no tenan la capacidad de entender y poner en prctica este nuevo conocimiento que este distinguido psiclogo posea y quera transmitir. As pues, Lafaga se enfrent a una serie de obstculos, ya que los maestros psiquiatras, les negaban a los estudiantes los elementos para adquirir una madurez profesional que podra consolidarse con la edad y la experiencia.No haba una razn que el Dr. Lafaga entendiera como tal y es por ello que se reusaba a la idea de no permitir a los psiclogos, sin la carrera de medicina, recibir un entrenamiento en psicoterapia; a pesar de ello, logr que se le permitiera dar un seminario llamado Curso introductorio de Counseling.

Este fue el primer logro del Dr. Lafarga quien adems, logr entrenar a no psiclogos en la universidad Iberoamericana, la cual tena una tradicin humanista, y esto llev a que surgiera el Departamento de Desarrollo Humano. Despus de 5 aos, se logr integrar este programa como una maestra.Hoy en da, los programas para el entrenamiento del psiclogo en psicoterapia son, en general, ms aceptados que antes. Pero fue a partir del ao 1975 que en la universidad Iberoamericana se cre el programa de maestra en psicoterapia. No fue sino hasta el ao de 1980 que el enfoque centrado en la persona contaba ya con cinco plataformas educativas en instituciones universitarias mexicanas en las ciudades de Mxico, D.F., Guadalajara en Jalisco y Tijuana en Baja California. Todo esto facilit la creacin de grupos intensivos de encuentro en los que se han formado profesores y estudiantes como facilitadores y promotores del desarrollo humano.MAESTRIA EN DESARROLLO DEL POTENCIAL HUMANO.
