IP THEFT
THE CRIME
Stealing intellectual property is cheap and easy.
Copying someone elses work, the thieves can make a huge profit.
Intellectual property theft can cost people their jobs, damage the reputation
of the original maker of the counterfeited product, cause sickness and
bodily harm, deprive governments of desperately needed tax revenue, and
even result in the spread of organized crime and gangswhich in turn can
damage more lives and destroy neighbourhood.

IP infringement
If you use someone elses intellectual property (IP) without their
permission you may be infringing their IP rights and they may be able
take legal action against you.
Patent infringement
Patent infringement typically is caused by using or selling a patented
invention without permission from the patent holder. The scope of the
patented invention or the extent of protection is defined in the claims of
the granted patent.
Copyright infringement
Copyright infringement is reproducing, distributing, displaying orperforming a work, or to make derivative works, without permission from

Trademark infringement
Trademark infringement occurs when one party uses a trademark that
is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark owned by another
party, in relation to products or services which are identical or similarto the products or services of the other party.
Design infringement
If you use, sell or import something that is identical or similar to a
design registration, without permission, you may be infringing the
owners rights.
