BienvenidaBuenas noches y una bienvenida a todos presentes. Amistades y el comité Segundo de Febrero agradece su presencia.

I welcome you tonight to this educational and cultural event. This is a defining, historic moment for us as a community. We are bringing the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo from the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C. to Tucson.

We have come together to commemorate the writing and signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, one of the oldest treaties in the United States of America. On February 2nd, the Treaty, a living document, will celebrate 163 years in existence.

I want to personally thank Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall, Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva, and Beth Grindell, Director of the Arizona State Museum, for their part in making this event a reality. Our donors in Tucson and Phoenix, planning committee members, project lideres, community organizations, families, and community volunteers all deserve much gratitude for their support and belief in this project.

Please join Amistades in commemorating the Treaty by visiting the exhibit at the Arizona State Museum during the month of February and attending the Public Symposium & Teacher Workshop at the University of Arizona on February 12, 2011.

It is our hope that the Treaty will promote peace, diversity, understanding, and unity in the Tucson community, Southern Arizona, and the state.

Respectfully,
