Guatemala scores victory over Belize

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 16, 2013. ‐ Guatemala beat Belize in straight sets 25‐23, 25‐20, 25‐18 at closing day of the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship. A slow beginning for Guatemala to defeat Belize who kept the score close. Guatemala concludes the tournament with record of 3‐2 and 14 points; Belize with 1‐4 and 4 points. The winners held advantage in spikes by 36‐27 and in blocks by

10‐9, while Belize had superiority in serves by 5‐2. Luis Ovalle was the top scorer for Guatemala with 14 points, followed by Erik Flores with 10 points. Raluni Bernardez led Belize with 13 points. Juan Jose Gonzalez of Guatemala expressed “today things turned out well as we were more confident in our performance, I’m glad with the result”. “We need to play with more energy and communication; it’s a tough last day. We have to practice harder because it’s a long way to go” indicated Yserri Palacio of Belize. “The team was more concentrated because they knew the importance of winning in three sets to have any chance of a medal or at least finishing in fourth tied with some of the medalists, which for me is worthy. Losing John Leon was definitely had a great impact on the team” said coach Alvinzi Pelaez of Guatemala. For Leslie Leon the tournament is a learning experience looking into the future “the boys need to develop and hopefully improve for the U23 category. Guatemala made less mistakes then us, controlling better the ball”.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 16 de noviembre de 2013.‐ Guatemala derrotó a Belize en sets seguidos 25‐23, 25‐20, 25‐18 en el último día del XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub‐21 Masculino. Guatemala arrancó lento pera imponerse a Belize que logró mantener el marcador cerca. Guatemala finaliza el torneo con record de 3‐2 y 14 puntos; Belize con 1‐4 y 4 puntos.

Los ganadores tuvieron ventaja en ataque por 36‐27 y en bloqueo po 10‐9, en tanto que Belize fue superior en los servicios por 5‐2. Luis Ovalle fue el máximo anotador de Guatemala con 14 puntos, seguido por Erik Flores con 10 puntos. Raluni Bernardez encabezó a Belize con 13 puntos. Juan José González de Guatemala expresó “hoy las cosas salieron bien porque tuvimos más confianza, estoy contento con el resultado”. “Necesitamos jugar con más energía y comunicación; fue un difícil último día. Tenemos que practicar más duro porque hay mucho por recorrer” indicó Yserri Palacio de Belize. “El equipo estuvo más concentrado porque sabían lo importante que era ganar en tres sets para tener la oportunidad de medalla o al menos terminar en cuarto empatado con alguno de los medallistas, lo cual para mi es respetable. Perder a John León definitivamente tuvo un fuerte impacto en el equipo” dijo el entrenador Alvinzi Peláez de Guatemala. Para Leslie León el torneo fue una aprendizaje con miras al futuro “los muchachos necesitan desarrollarse, esperando que mejoren para la categoría Sub 23. Guatemala cometió menos errores que nosotros, controlando mejor el balón.”

Nicaragua beats Costa Rica in three sets SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 16, 2013.‐ Nicaragua beat Costa Rica 3‐0 (25‐22, 26‐24, 25‐18) on the last day of actions of the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship. Nicaragua controlled mostly the entire match as Costa Rica put up a stronger resistance during the second set. Both teams finish the tournament with 3‐2 record, but Nicaragua with 19 points and Costa Rica with 13.

The winners were dominant over the net with 50‐31 advantage in kills; they were also more efficient in serves by 3‐1. Costa Rica held advantage in blocking points by 7‐4. Nicaragua’s Kevin Duarte led his team with 19 points, followed by Christofer Lazo and Ruben Mora with 15 and 12 points respectively. Cesar Gomez was the best scorer for Costa Rica with 17 points. Captain Brayan Orozco of Nicaragua was thrilled with the victory, he said “our goal was to finish in three sets; this is the fourth consecutive occasion we beat Costa Rica and that makes me proud of my team”. “Nicaragua is always strong, I congratulate them; as for us, we weren’t able to correct our errors in blocking the entire match” expressed Andres Araya of Costa Rica. “We should have played like this the whole tournament; today we performed strong and my opposite players as my libero did a splendid job” indicated Nicaragua’s coach Osman Hernandez. Coach Mauricio Prado of Costa Rica admitted they knew Nicaragua was tough “they have better physical condition than us. My team had four players with minor injuries and their confidence was diminished”.

Nicaragua tuvo el control la mayoría del juego y Costa Rica puso mayor resistencia durante el segundo set. Ambos equipos terminan el torneo con record de 3‐2, pero Nicaragua obtuvo 19 puntos y Costa Rica 13.

Los ganadores fueron dominantes sobre la red con ventaja de 50‐31 en ataques; también fueron más eficientes en puntos de servicio por 3‐1. Costa Rica tuvo ventaja de 7‐4 en el bloqueo. Kevin Duarte encabezó a Nicaragua con 19 puntos, seguido por Christofer Lazo y Rubén Mora con 15 y 12 puntos respectivamente. César Gómez fue el máximo anotador de Costa Rica con 17 puntos. El capitán de Nicaragua Brayan Orozco dijo estar emocionado con la victoria “nuestro objetivo era terminar en tres sets; esta es la cuarta ocasión consecutiva en que derrotamos a Costa Rica y eso me hace sentir orgulloso de mi equipo”. “Nicaragua siempre es fuerte, los felicito; en cuanto a nosotros, durante todo el juego no pudimos corregir los errores en el bloqueo” expresó Andrés Araya de Costa Rica. “Así debimos haber jugado el torneo complete; hoy nos desempeñamos con mayor fuerza y tanto los opuestos como el libero hicieron un excelente trabajo” indicó el entrenador de Nicaragua, Osman Hernández. El entrenador Mauricio Prado de Costa Rica admitió que Nicaragua es un rival fuerte “tienen mejor condición física que nosotros. Mi equipo tiene cuatro jugadores con lesiones leves y su confianza se vio limitada”.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 16, 2013. ‐ El Salvador defeated Honduras 3‐0 (29‐27, 25‐23, 25‐18) to crown Champions of the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship on Saturday night. The home team determine to win the title had no considerations over a relentless Honduras that began dominating in the first set, managed to keep close in the second and couldn’t keep up in the third set.

This El Salvador’s second title in the history of the tournament, they last obtained the gold in 1990 during the fourth edition in Honduras. The second place went to Nicaragua and third place to Guatemala. Honduras contained El Salvador with 10‐7 advantage in blocking while El Salvador held 9‐4 advantage in serves and 29‐24 in spikes. Samuel Valdez was the best scorer for El Salvador with 13 points and Mauricio Rivas added 13. For Honduras, Watler Ornello registered 14 points and Jonathan Massu 11 points. “This is the result of hard work, it’s been a long year of practice, every opponent put up a fight” said Samuel Valdez. Jonathan Massu considers the loss a win for his team “we are developing and improving, it’s always a challenge facing the home team. El Salvador plays hard; I think they need to be more humble.” Coach Ricardo Rivera expressed “it’s been too long since we’ve been on top, I believe we’re opening a new road for El Salvador”. Coach Rony Martinez said to be proud of his team “we came from less to more in the tournament and the results are very good as I was short of players and had no substitutes, we put up a good fight.”

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 16 de noviembre de 2013. ‐ El Salvador derrotó a Honduras 3‐0 (29‐27, 25‐23, 25‐18) para coronarse campeón del XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub‐21 Masculino la noche del sábado. El equipo de casa, decidido a ganar el título, no tuvo consideraciones sobre un persistente Honduras que inició dominando el primer set, se mantuvo cerca en el segundo y no pudo mantener el ritmo en el tercero.

Este es el segundo título para El Salvador en la historia del torneo, la última vez que ganó el oro fue en 1990 durante la cuarta edición en Honduras. El segundo lugar fue para Nicaragua y el tercero para Guatemala. Honduras contuvo a El Salvador con ventaja de 10‐7 en el bloqueo mientras que El Salvador tuvo ventaja de 9‐4 en puntos de servicio y 29‐24 en ataque. Samuel Valdez fue el máximo anotador para El Salvador con 13 puntos y Mauricio Rivas agregó 13. Por Honduras Watler Ornello registró 14 puntos y Jonathan Massu 11 puntos. “Este es el resultado de trabajo duro, ha sido un largo año entrenando, todos los rivales dieron pelea” dijo Samuel Valdez. Jonathan Massu considera la derrota un triunfo para su equipo “estamos evolucionando y mejorando, siempre es un reto enfrentar al equipo de casa. El Salvador jugó fuerte; creo que necesitan tener más humildad”. El entrenador Ricardo Rivera expresó “ha sido mucho tiempo sin estar en la cima, creo que estamos abriendo una brecha nueva en El Salvador”. El entrenador Ron Martínez dijo estar orgulloso de su equipo “venimos de menos a más en el torneo y los resultados fueron muy buenas ya que nos hacían falta jugadores y cambios, dimos una buena pelea.”

Samuel Valdez of El Salvador MVP at AFECAVOL Boy’s U21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 16, 2013. – Samuel Valdez of El Salvador was named the Most Valuable Player MVP of the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship that concluded on Saturday night. Valdez led his team to the win the Gold Medal and also was named the Best Spiker during the award ceremony, presided by Oscar Valdez President of National Volleyball Federation of El Salvador and Jose Luis Jimenez Lao, Director of Afecavol.

Jaime Vasquez of Guatemala received the honors of Best Receiver, Best Digger and Best Libero. From Honduras were awarded Carlos Chavez as Best Setter and Jonathan Massu as Best Blocker and William Thompson as Best Server. The award for Best Spiker was granted to Cesar Gomez of Costa Rica. The awards are determined according to the statistics tabulated by the VIS system executed during the tournament. Samuel Valdez de El Salvador el JMV en AFECAVOL Sub‐21 Masculino

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 16 de noviembre de 2013.‐ Samuel Valdez de El Salvador fue nombrado el Jugador Más Valioso del XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub‐21 Masculino que concluyó el sábado por la noche. Valdez llevó a su equipo a ganar la medalla de oro y también fue nombrado como el Mejor Anotador durante la ceremonia de premiación presidida por el Presidente de la Federación Salvadoreña de Voleibol y José Luis Jiménez Lao, Director de Afecavol.

Jaime Vásquez de Guatemala recibió los honores al Mejor Receptor, Mejor Defensor y Mejor Libero. De Honduras fueron premiados Carlos Chávez como el Mejor Acomodador, Jonathan Massu al Mejor Bloqueo y William Thompson al Mejor Servicio. El premio al Mejor Atacante le fue otorgado a César Gómez de Costa Rica. Los premios se determinan de acuerdo a las estadísticas tabuladas por el sistema VIS implementado durante el campeonato.
