GreGory GoinGs: selected Branding & signage Projects
Signage Program for Trinity Church and St. Pauls Chapel
After a working with the firm G2 on a full branding program for the church’s print identity, our in-house department took on the project of translating the look and feel into a signage system for the two churches, our own office building and an active cemetery uptown.
i worked with the principal and staff of the design and signage company Archigrafika, as well as the architecture firm Fahey Design/Build to plan, design and implement a program that would be in accord with the historic environment of the church and neighborhood, yet position the church as a vital and engaged presence in the streetscape.
Partnering and due diligence also included extensive documentation for the Landmarks Preservation Commission and an archeological site study before building new structures.

Signage Inventory/Site Plan for Trinity Church Cemetery
Typical site plan discussion/inventory document.
GreGory GoinGs: selected Branding & signage Projects
Construction Shed Graphics: Change-ringing Bells
Trinity was given an opportunity to acquire and install a set of traditional english change-ringing bells in their tower. These were the first of their kind in new york.
The neighborhood was kept informed about the work in their midst and invited to learn more about this art form and its place in church history.

Pilot Program, Outdoor Banners
To correct the impression that Trinity Church was more of a historic site than an active parish, we developed a program of banners for the Church’s west side, which lacked a prominent entrance facade. With a simplified vocabulary of one-word statements and single images, the esential activities of the parish were shared with the walking public.

Easter Banner Campaign
Utilizing the potential for a sequential reading of eight banners along Trinity Place, we designed these outdoor banners to emphasize a different word from that year’s easter message— life, hope, joy, & faith — as one walked under each banner.

Christmas Banner Campaign
The goal of this campaign was to communicate the tradition & history of the church along with an invitation to join the celebrations of a contemporary parish.
To bring this into the design of the banners, i chose a 1930’s illustration from one of the church’s Christmas programs in Archives, juxtaposed with a modern typographic feel and photography of the present day.
