Pool B DOM v GUA Dominican Republic dominates Guatemala

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012. - Dominican Republic dominated Guatemala in straight sets 25-7, 25-3 and 25-13 in their first match of the preliminary round at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. Dominicans controlled the actions with advantage of 17-2 in blocks and a margin of 10-1 in serves. Guatemala has two losses while Dominican Republic walks firmly for the qualification and will

battle Mexico for the first place of Pool B. Brayelin Martinez scored the highest for Dominican Republic with 27 points, 6 in

blocks. Lourdes Cruz was the head scorer for Guatemala with 6 points.

For the winners, Pamela Soriano said “everything turned as planned, we followed our

coach’s instructions and we´re prepared for stronger opponents.”

Guatemala’s captain Ada Villalobos was satisfied with the result “we responded well

after two poor sets, we fought harder in the third but it was too late, we’ll continue to

battle for what comes ahead.

Brazilian coach Wagner Pacheco for Dominican Republic indicated that they

accomplished their objectives in the first two sets “I made some changes in the third

and the team’s rhythm slowed down which Guatemala took advantage of, it was a

good match for us and as for Mexico, we already know each other and it’ll be a tense

match because the qualification is in stake.”

“Guatemala’s conditions are easily seen, we need to play with teams of the category of

the Dominicans to develop better and to put in practice what we’ve been training. Our

team responded in the third set just as we´ve been preparing ourselves with a more

offensive game.”

clasificación y batallará ante México por el primer lugar del Grupo B.

Brayelin Martínez anotó el máximo para República Dominicana con 27 puntos, 6 de

ellos de bloqueo. Lourdes Aparicio encabezó a Guatemala con 6 puntos.

Por las ganadoras, Pamela Soriano dijo “todo salió acorde a lo que planteó nuestro

entrenador, seguimos sus instrucciones y estamos preparadas para los rivales más

fuertes.”

La capitana guatemalteca Ada Villalobos, se mostró satisfecha con el resultado de hoy,

“respondimos bien luego de dos sets iniciales malos, salimos a la batalla en el tercero

sin embargo ya era muy tarde y seguiremos luchando para lo que viene.”

Wagner Pacheco entrenador brasileño para República Dominicana indicó que

cumplieron su objetivo en los primeros dos sets “hice unos cambios en el tercero y el

equipo bajó su ritmo lo cual aprovechó Guatemala, fue un buen juego para nosotros y

en cuanto a México, ya nos conocemos y sabemos que será tenso por que se juega la

clasificación.”

“Las condiciones de Guatemala saltan a la vista, nos hace falta chocar más con equipos

de la talla de Dominicana para poder desarrollarnos mejor y poner en práctica lo que

entrenamos. El equipo si cumplió en el tercer set lo que hemos venido practicando con

un juego más ofensivo.”

Solid Cuban squad downs Trinidad & Tobago

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012. - Cuba downed Trinidad & Tobago by 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-14) in their first presentation at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. Cuban squad had a solid performance but without challenge from Trinidad & Tobago who now have a 0-2 win-loss record. Cuba was superior in serves by 12-1. Tomorrow’s stellar

match presents Cuba against USA for the top place in Pool C Numbers for Cuba show Sulian Matienzo as best scorer with 11 points. Trinidad & Tobago had in Reann Young with 3 points their best scorer. Sulian Matienzo captain of Cuba expressed “the team played united because this was a

preparation match to face USA tomorrow and finish in first place”.

“Today we did a much bigger effort on our pass and we worked harder; as the tournament progresses we will do better” said Makil York of Trinidad & Tobago. Wilfredo Robinson Cuban Coach recognized that his team was effortless today “for some of our young players this is their first international experience” he also congratulated Trinidad & Tobago because every year they improve a little bit more. “We’ve only been practicing intensely for a month and we know we must work in our serves to face USA.” “Like I said before we set ourselves a target to reach 15 points and today we didn’t make it either, so even though the effort today was a lot better than yesterday, I think it’s because we have no experience which needs to be gained and maybe one day we can be as powerful as Cuba” indicated Ali Macsood.

Los números para Cuba muestran a Sulian Matienzo como la mejor anotadora con 11

puntos. Trinidad & Tobago tuvo en Reann Young con 3 puntos a su mejor anotadora.

Sulian Matienzo la capitana de Cuba expresó “mi equipo lució muy unido ya que este

encuentro nos sirvió como preparación para mañana contra Estados Unidos y terminar

en primer lugar.”

“Hoy hicimos un mayor esfuerzo en nuestro pase y trabajamos más duro; conforme

avance el torneo esperamos hacerlo mejor” dijo Makil York de Trinidad & Tobago.

Wilfredo Robinson el entrenador cubano afirmó que hoy el equipo no se exigió “hay

jugadoras jóvenes que ésta es su primera experiencia internacional” además felicitó a

Trinidad & Tobago que cada año mejora un poquito más. “Hemos entrenado tan solo

un mes en forma intensa y sabemos que hay que trabajar en nuestro saque para

enfrentar a Estados Unidos”.

“Como dije anteriormente, nos trazamos la meta de hacer 15 puntos y hoy tampoco la logramos a pesar de que el esfuerzo fue mejor que el de ayer, pienso que se debe a la falta de experiencia la cual necesitamos alcanzar y así talvez algún día ser tan poderosos como Cuba” indicó Ali Macsood.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 22, 2012. – Nicaragua had no trouble prevailing over Antigua & Barbuda in their successful debut at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship by 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-12). Host Nicaragua found their rhythm from the beginning earning their first match of the tournament while Antigua & Barbuda add their second loss in their first NORCECA
