Des del naixement del Rythm and blues fins a l’actualitat han anat formant-se diferents híbrids que barrejaven el hip-hop amb el soul en diferent proporció. El grup Blackstreet, que va debutar l’any 1994, va crear un estil de R&B contemporani amb caràcter més melòdic. En el disc “Finally”, després d’un procés de maduració, hi conviuen diferents músiques negres: el hip-hop, el soul i el doo-wop, enteses con un estil en ple. Components del grup: Tedy Riley (fundador), Chauncey Hannibal, Eric Williams i Terrell Philips (i anteriorment Joe Stonestreet, Levi Little, David Hollister i Mark Middleton).
