El viajero es una revista de la empresa Bus-Sur. Con-siderada una gran innovación para la comunidad, fue creada el año 2013. Su nombre, nace como

tributo a los visitantes y pasajeros que cada vez en mayor cantidad, visitan la región y sus atractivos, así como tam-bién la octava maravilla del mundo: Torres del Paine. La revista, se ha convertido en una importante orientación para los viajeros de zona, reuniendo los mejores datos en cuanto a empresas de turismo y operadores, gastronomía, hotelería, arte-sanías y distintos servicios que requiere el turista. La información, se encuentra publicada tanto en español como en inglés, siendo una interesante plata-forma de difusión. Cuenta con una gran fuente de datos y sugerencias invaluables para cualquier viajero. En la actualidad, tenemos un número creciente de auspiciadores quienes nos ayudan a financiar cada edición de nuestro proyecto. Ellos son quienes confían en El Viajero como plataforma para llegar a sus clientes que visitan este invaluable rincón del mundo. El viajero es una marca constituida por un equipo de jóvenes profesionales con una mirada vanguardista, pero quienes conservan el romanticismo por nuestra naturaleza y la diversidad de flora y fauna que envuelve nuestra zona.

ish and English, making this an interesting platform. It has a great

deal of info and suggestions that are valuable for any tourist. Currently, we

have a growing number of sponsors that help finance our project. They trust in El Viajero as a platform to help get more clients in this corner of the world. El Viajero is a brand constructed by a team of young professionals with a vanguard look but who also conserve the romanticism for our nature and diverse flora and fauna that wraps our region.

El 2018 ha tenido un comienzo especial. Constru-ir una nueva instalación, más que comodidad, significó un gran paso para nuestra empresa.

Por muchos años, se anheló contar con un lugar más se-guro para estacionamiento de buses y clientes, además de facilitar la operación de carga y descarga de en-comiendas. La seguridad, es un valor importante tanto para nuestros clientes como para quienes trabajan en esta compañía. Ubicados en O’higgins 544, esperamos descomprimir la demanda de estacionamientos del centro de la ciudad, sin quedar muy distante de él.Esta nueva sucursal, cuenta con una oficina de Venta de Pasajes hacia todos los destinos de la empresa y además ofrece servicios de Turismo. Por otro lado, la sección de Carga y Encomiendas, desde ahora está subdividida en una sección de entrega y otra de retiro de encomiendas, pensando en facilitar el orden y optimizar los tiempos de espera. En Bus- Sur sabemos que plantear nuevas ideas y con-cretarlas suena difícil, pero jamás imposible. Esta nueva obra es parte de nuestros sueños, en los que estamos trabajando arduamente por llevarlos a cabo. 2018 has had a special beginning. To build a new construction, more than comfort, it meant a big step for our company.

For many years, we wanted to have a safer place for parking of buses and also clients. Besides, we wanted to facilitate the loading and unloading operation for our cargo service. Safety is a special value for our clients and also for those who work in our company. We are located on 544 O’Higgins Street, and with this location we hope to contribute to diminish the parking demand in the center of the city, without being so distant from it. In this new branch, there is a Ticket Sale Office to all destinations offered by the company, and also there are some Tour services. On the other side, the Cargo and Consignment section is now divided into a pick-up section and a consignment delivery section, to facilitate the order and optimize the waiting times.

In Bus - Sur , we know that setting and concretize new ideas sound difficult, but never impossible. This new building is part of our dreams, and we are working hard to making it true. Determination energizes our will to go on imaging and desiring improvements that can be translated in a better service for our clients.Thanks for being with us in this trip…

Welcome to our new branch of Puerto Natales

It is a slender and medium size mammal, with long neck and long legs and a body adapted to move, jump and run. Its coat is dense and its hair is very fine, with

a double layer of it. This allows it to keep the body tem-perature in the cold places where it lives. Its colour varies from light Brown to orange in the upper parts, white in the lower parts and grey in the head. The ears are big; the tale is short and brown. The Guanaco is an herbivorous because it only eats food of vegetal origin. Its digestive process starts when it cuts the plants with its mouth to chew, salivate and then, swallow the food. The Guanaco is an animal that can eat the grass and graze (eat the leaves and the branches of a tree) when it is necessary. The species it selects depends on the place and the season of the year. However, in the south of Tierra del Fuego, it may include at least 45 species of plants in its diet. In Tierra del Fuego, birth giving is mainly between De-cember and January. Females have a gestation of 11 months, and after this period it delivers only one chu-lengo (baby Guanaco). This is born with the same pat-tern colours tan the adults, but with lighter tonalities. The Guanaco has developed a special behaviour to avoid its predators, based on constant vigilance group and accurate senses that allow detecting movements at a distance; no matter, it requires an area of good visi-bility to detect danger in time. Its complexion makes it very agile and it has a great endurance to run. Besides, it may exhibit group defensive movements facing the

Su color varía de café claro a anaranjado en las zonas supe-riores, blanco en las partes inferiores y gris en la cabeza. Las orejas son grandes, su cola es corta y de color café. El guanaco es un hervíboro porque consume sólo alimentos de origen vegetal. Su proceso de digestión comienza cuando corta las plantas con su boca, para masticar, salivar y lue-go tragar el alimento. El guanaco es un animal que puede pastorear (comer los pastos) y ramonear (comer las hojas y las puntas de una rama de árbol) cuando es necesario. Las especies que selecciona dependen del lugar y de la estación del año, pero en el sur de Tierra del Fuego puede incluir al menos 45 especies de plantas en su dieta.En Tierra del Fuego la parición ocurre entre diciembre y enero principalmente, con un alto porcentaje de naci-mientos en diciembre. Las hembras tienen un periodo de gestación de 11 meses, tiempo después del cual paren un solo chulengo. Éste nace con el mismo patrón de colores que los adultos, pero con tonalidades más claras. El guanaco ha desarrollado un especial comportamiento para evitar a sus depredadores, basado en una constante vigilancia grupal y sentidos agudos que le permiten de-tectar movimientos a distancia, aunque requiere de zonas de buena visibilidad para detectar a tiempo el peligro. attacks of medium size carnivorous animals such as the Andean Fox. It has been proved that only two predators hunt Guanacos: the Puma (Puma concolor) and the An-dean Fox or Red Fox (Lycalopex culpaeus), no matter, the last one it has only seen hunting bay pumas. It is impor-tant to make clear that the Puma is present in the whole American continent, except in Tierra del Fuego Island. Predators play a very important role in the natural sys-tems, because it keeps the populations in a young status and healthy, regulating the number of animals, consider-ing that it generally consumes animals just born or weak and old. The first scientific description of Guanacos was provided by the Abbé Juan Ignacio Molina in 1782, who called it Camelus huanacus, evidencing its similarity with camels. The Selk´nam, people of Tierra del Fuego who lived be-fore the arrival of the European settlers, interacted and depended on the Guanaco to live. They hunted Guana-cos to eat its flesh and also get covered with throws and clothes made with the skin and also other uses. A great part of their culture depended on the Guanaco. In Tierra del Fuego, it is common to see it in the steppe ecosystem and in the transmission between the Steppe and the Woods of Lenga. However, during winter, the snow will take most of it to move to other areas with less coverage and deep snow, and with more availability of food. Es im-portante aclarar que el Puma, está presente en todo el con-tinente americano excepto en la Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. Los depredadores juegan un rol muy importante en los sistemas naturales, ya que mantienen las poblaciones en estado joven y saludable, regulando el número de animales, ya que generalmente consumen individuos recién nacidos o débiles y viejos. La primera descripción científica del guanaco fue dada por el abate Juan Ignacio Molina en 1782, quien lo llamó Camelus huanacus, evidenciando su parecido con los camellos. Los Selk´nam, antes de la llegada de los colonos europeos, interactuaban y dependian del Guanaco para vivir. Ellos los cazaban para alimentarse de su carne, y abrigarse con cobijas y ropajes hechos de su cuero entre otros usos. Gran parte de su cultura dependía del Guanaco. En Tierra del Fuego es común verlos en el ecosistema de estepa y en la transmisión entre estepa y bosques de Len-ga, pero durante el invierno, las nevadas los obligan en su mayoría a moverse hacia zonas con menos cobertura y pro-fundidad de nieve, y con mayor disponibilidad de alimento. Soy oriundo de la ciudad de Puerto Natales. Allí me crié y estudié hasta la Enseñanza Media. Mi padre trabajó, durante años, en la mina de car-

bón de Río Turbio, Patagonia Argentina. Fue al otro lado del alambre donde el viejo dejó los pulmones, entre hollín y polvillo. Pero mi caso es diferente: yo dejo el aire de los pulmones, nadando…Al cumplir mi mayoría de edad tuve que dejar la pe-queña ciudad, y viajar a Talcahuano, a cumplir con mi servicio militar, en la Infantería de Marina. Allá, más que mejorar mi mala técnica de nado, que tenía en aquel entonces, aprendí cómo aguantar el sufrimiento en el agua…Al salir de la Marina no quería saber nada que tuviera relación con el mar, pero igual fui a parar al equipo de natación en la universidad, de modo que volví a chapotear en la piscina, dos horas, todos los sábados. Aún no sé por qué me eligieron, “deportista destaca-do en natación”; quizá fue porque era el único que iba siempre…Llevo más de dos años entrenando, principalmente, en piscina. Hace un año más o menos que me sur-gió la idea de comenzar a nadar en aguas abiertas. En el mar todo es diferente; el oleaje y la corriente te dificultan poder hacerlo como se hace en una pis-cina: miras para abajo y no ves el fondo, sabes que si te acalambras, no te puedes parar y quedar de pie, con el frio es peor aún, allí no hay calefón ni agüita temperada.Dentro de todo el entrenamiento y la aclimatación que llevo realizando este último tiempo, me he de-mostrado a mí mismo que lo que realizo conlleva tiempo, que hay mucho esfuerzo y sacrificio en esto,

I am native from Puerto Natales. I was raised there an studied until I finished school. My fa-ther worked for many years in the coal mine of

Rio Turbio, Argentinean Patagonia. It was at the other side of the fence that my father left his lungs, between the soot and the dust. But my case is differ-ent: I leave the air of the lungs swimming… When I got the legal age, I had to leave the small city and travel to Talcahuano, to do the military service in the navy infantry. There, more than im-proving my bad technique for swimming in that time, I learned how to stand the suffering into the water… When I left the navy, I didn’t want to know anything related to the sea; however, I finished in the swim-ming team at the university. So, I returned to splash in the swimming pool, two hours every Saturday. I still don’t know why they selected me as a sports-man outstanding in swimming”; maybe because I was the only one who always attended there… I have been training for more than two years, main-ly in a swimming pool. About approximately a year ago, I had the idea to start swimming in open wa-ters. In the sea, everything is different: the waves and the current make it difficult to do it as it is done in a swimming pool: you look down and you don’t see the bottom, you know that if you get cramp, you cannot stand up and stay up; when it is cold, it is even worst, there is no heater or warm water there. With all the training and adaptation I have been do-ing in the last time, I have shown myself that what I do takes time, there is a lot of effort and sacrifice in this; but it is not something impossible to achieve.

Me he ido proponiendo metas, algunas de ellas las he cumplido, sin embargo, tengo muchas más por cumplir.Lo que realizó lo denomino “desafíos de aguas abi-ertas”. Esto para mi comprende un concepto muy diferente al que tiene un nadador de competición. Yo compito…Si!!! Pero no para querer ganarle a otro participante, si no a mí mismo, para vencer mis pro-pios límites. Mi intención es cruzar estrechos o cana-les, y de esta forma unir lugares, salir nadando desde una orilla, con el objetivo de querer llegar a la otra costa lo más pronto posible, ya que cuando nado no uso la protección térmica de ningún traje de neopre-no, lo hago “a cuero pelado”, con mi traje de baño, gorro y lentes. Nada más.Hasta ahora pude lograr un desafío propuesto: cru-zar a nado el canal Beagle y de esta manera unir Ar-gentina con Chile. Fueron 1.635 metros los que tuve que nadar para conseguirlo; llegar a mi país de una manera diferente, ser recibido por tus paisanos. Lograr esa proeza, es algo inolvidable. En la costa chile-na me esperaba la gente de la Armada y los bomberos de Puerto Williams, y también la PDI y la aduana, que tenían que certificar el ingreso al país, puesto que lo hice por “un paso no habilitado”. Me convertí en el primer magallánico en cruzar a nado el canal Beagle.Ojalá Dios me siga dando la fuerza en los brazos y guiándome para que pueda lograr un par de cruces más. Me gustaría cruzar, en algún momento, el Es-trecho de Magallanes. Pero antes de eso, el Canal de Chacao, que es un poco más angosto. Debo ir paso a paso. La corriente que corre es muy fuerte, hay que tener resistencia, principalmente entre la mitad y la última parte, sentir para dónde va la corriente. Es im-portante calcular la hora de la estoa de marea para poder cruzar en el momento indicado.Hay muy pocas empresas, muy poca gente y muy pocas instituciones que apoyan el deporte. ¡Gracias Bus-Sur por apoyarme siempre!

I have been proposing challenges, I have achieved some of them, however, I have many more to fulfil. What I do, I call it challenges in open waters”. To me, this involves a very different concept related to a competition swimmer. I compete…Yes!!! But I don’t compete to win to another swimmer, but to myself, to beat my own limits. My intention is to cross straits or channels, and so, connect places, swim from a coast with the objective to reach the other coast as soon as possible. Because when I swim, I do not use the thermal protection of any neoprene suit, I do it just with my skin uncovered, only with my bath-ing suit, a cap and goggles. There is nothing extra. Until now, I could achieve a challenge: to cross the Beagle Channel swimming, and so, connect Ar-gentina with Chile. I had to swim 1.635 meters to achieve it; arrive to my country in a different way, been welcome by your own people. To achieve that feat is something unforgettable. In the Chile-an coast, people from the Navy and Firemen from Puerto Williams were waiting for me; but also, the PDI and people from the customs who had to be there to certify the access to the country, because I did it by a non-authorized pass”. I became the first person from Magallanes to cross the Beagle Channel swimming. I hope God goes on providing me the strength in my arms and guide me so I can achieve a couple of crossings more. Some day, I would like to cross the Strait of Magellan, but before that; I would like to cross the Chacao Channel that is a bit narrower. I must go step by step. The current is very strong and one must have a lot of resistance, mainly between half way and the last part, and feel what the direc-tion of the current is. It is important to calculate the time of the tidal flows to cross in the right moment. There are few companies, few people and very few institutions that support sports. glucosa / 100g de azúcar para el almíbar 65g de leche condensada / 100g de chocolate blanco de cobertura en trozos pequeños / 6 hojas de

gelatina hidratada (12g) y disuelta en 36ml de agua / Unas gotas de colorante blanco (luego se

pueden utilizar otros colores)

300 gr of cream 300 gr of chocolate with milk / 12gr of gelatine

2 bananas / 50gr of sugar / 1 lemon50gr of fudge / 1 pinch of cinnamon

Mille-feuille discsMirror-like cover: 50 ml water / 100 g of glucose

100 g of sugar for the syrup65g of condensed milk / 100g of cover white

chocolate in small pieces / 6 sheets of hydrated gelatine (12g) and dissolved in 36ml of water

a bit of white colorant (then, you can use other colours)

Peel the bananas and cut it into cubes, then, sauté it in butter. Add sugar, lemon zest and cinnamon. Cook until it gets caramelized. Then, pour i ton a flat tray, leave it to get cold and freeze it. For the Mousse, melt the Chocolate in parts of 40gr. Hydrate the gelatine, add the cream and start mixing incorporating air. Take the bananas from the freezer, add fudge and freeze it again. Then, use a rounded cutter with a diameter smaller than the silicon mould, cut discs and keep it. Cut the mille-feuille discs with the cutter and keep.

Se pelan los plátanos y se cortan en cubos, luego se saltean un poco en mantequilla. Se añade azúcar, la ralladura de limón y canela y se cocina hasta caramelizar. Luego se coloca en una placa lisa, dejar enfriar y luego se congelan.Para la Mousse, se derrite el chocolate a 40gr por partes. Se hidrata la gelatina y se calienta para derretir, se monta la crema un poco y se procede a mezclar de forma envolvente.Se saca la confitura de plátanos del congelador y se le coloca manjar con un manga. Se vuelve a congelar. Luego con un cortador redondo (de un diámetro menor al molde de silicona), se cortan discos y se reserva.

En los moldes se coloca un poco de Mousse hasta la mitad, se introduce un disco de confitura congelada, se cubre con Mousse y se termina con un disco de hojarasca. Se alinea y nivela bien y se mete a congelar 6 horas o hasta que esté firme.Para el glaseado se calientan los ingredientes hasta estar líquidos y se mixean tratando de no producir burbujas. Para utilizar debe estar a 36 grados de temperatura.Se desmolda el Mousse y enseguida se baña con el glaseado.

Add a bit of mousse to fill half of the moulds, put a disc of frozen banana, cover with mousse and finish with a mille-feuille disc. Organise it and level it and put it in the freezer for 6 hours.For the glaze, warm the ingredients until it become liquid and mix it carefully, so as not to produce bubbles. It can be used when reaching a temperature of 36 grades.Remove the mousse from the mould and immediately cover it with the glaze.

Recuerdo hace 4 meses, cuando estaba por San Pedro de Atacama y estaba comprando mis tiquetes de vuelo de Santiago a Punta

Arenas, para el 6 de Junio. Pensaba que ese viaje sería una locura: en tierras tan australes, con un tiempo limitado y además con el comienzo del invierno.Mi familia y amigos me decían que Yo estaba loco “Bajar hasta al sur del mundo solo a congelarte, a ver nieve y hielo”.Para mí desde hace muchos años, ¡este destino era un sueño que quería si o si cumplir! Mi intuición de viajero me decía que toda iba a salir muy bien… Aún con los pronósticos en contra, me llené de confianza y de la mejor energía y me embarqué en esta expedición.Tuve la fortuna de conocer a increíbles personas y descubrir maravillosos paisajes. Mi paso por Punta Arenas y Puerto Natales estuvo repleto de bendiciones. Desde el momento en que viajé con Bus Sur e hice turismo con GoCalafate y 21 de Mayo, y también cuando me hospedé en el Hotel Viento Patagónico o me invitaron a una entrevista en el programa de TV “Abrazo Patagónico”. Mi Ex-periencia 360° fue extraordinaria. No tengo nin-guna queja. Fui muy feliz de ver a tantas personas bonitas que me ayudaron y me prestaron un servicio excelente.No sé si fue suerte, o un ángel de la guarda o quizás la poca cantidad de gente en esta temporada… sea lo que fuese. Fue la mejor experiencia!Yo tenía un paradigma: y era que si las tierras que pisaba eran frían las personas serían iguales. Pero mi sorpresa fue que la gente fue bastante cálida y amorosa.Además de este sentimiento, me impresioné y me asombré de ver tantos paisajes. Ufff, qué locura! y que exóticos paisajes esconden estas tierras aus-trales! Amé las Torres del Paine, que maravilla del mundo, que parque natural con tantos teso-ros! Sin duda una joya natural para Chile! Amé el Glaciar Serrano, amé las lagunas y lagos y amé cada montaña con la que me crucé.

I remember 4months ago when I was in San Pedro de Atacama buying my flight tickets from Santiago to Punta Arenas, for June 6th.

I thought that trip was something crazy: going to far south land, with a limited time and besides, at the beginning of winter. My family and friends told me that I was crazy to go down to the south of the world just to get frozen, see snow and ice”. From many years ago, this was a dream that I wanted to make true by all means! My traveller intuition told me that everything was going to be fine…In spite of the comments against me, I was filled with confidence and the best energy and I started this expedition. I had the fortune to know incredible people and discover wonderful landscapes. My stay in Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales was full of blessings. From the moment I travelled by Bus Sur and did tours with Go Calafate and 21 de Mayo, and also, when I stayed Viento Patagonico Hotel or when I was invited for an interview in the TV program Patagonian Hug”. My experience 360° was extraordinary. I have no complains. I was so happy to see so many nice people who helped me and provided an excellent service. I don’t know if it was luck or a guardian angel or may be the few amount of people coming in

this season….Whatever it was…It was the best experience! I had a paradigm: if the land I stepped on was cold, people would be the same. But I was sur-prised because people were very warm and friendly.

Besides this feeling, I was impressed and sur-prised to see so many landscapes. Uf ! What a crazy thing! And what exotic landscapes hide these far south lands! I loved Torres del Paine, what a wonder of the world, what a park with so many treasures! No doubt it is a natural jewel for Chile! I loved the Serrano Glacier, I loved the lagoons and lakes and I loved each mountain I saw on my way.

I wonder if being so cold, snowed and frozen, I loved it; I cannot imagine how can be the beau-ty in spring or fall….And mainly because I love photography, so I could make high-lux postcards. If you ask me if I would come back some day ¿?. The answer is YES. I will come back in a few years with my mother. I will bring her, so she can also make her dream true! Juan Fernando Campo

Esta ciudad está ubicada en la costa este de la pro-vincia de Tierra del Fuego, es considerada mundial-mente como uno de los lugares más importantes

para la pesca de trucha marrón y reconocida como “Capi-tal Internacional de la Trucha”. El derrotero de la trucha marrón presenta algunas carac-terísticas particulares ya que, siendo peces de río, algunos ejemplares salen hacia el océano para volver a desovar en los cursos fluviales. Por su adaptación se la conoce como la Trucha Nativa.Se llega a Río Grande por vía terrestre por medio de la Ruta Nacional 3, que arranca en territorio fueguino después del cruce del Estrecho de Magallanes. Es, sin lugar a dudas, el centro industrial de mayor importancia en la provincia.Los primeros pobladores blancos se instalaron aquí a fines del siglo XIX y recién en 1921 se fundó esta localidad que, con el tiempo, se transformaría en el más importante cen-tro económico. Los primeros pobladores dieron origen a una serie de estancias dedicadas a la explotación ganad-era que fue desde siempre una de las actividades más destacadas. Esta actividad fue desplazada en 1959 con el descubrimiento de petróleo en la región, lo que atrajo a gran cantidad de pobladores; sobre todo del vecino país Chile.Río Grande es una ciudad con un fuerte impulso para cre-cer, la ruta nacional 3 nos conduce directo a Río Grande, la se-gunda ciudad más relevante de Tierra del Fuego. El camino se trazó a la par del viejo puente para cruzar el río y desemboca en la Av. Santa Fe, donde se encuentra el Paseo de la Ciudad y el paseo Crucero Gral. Belgrano. Llegar al atardecer y ver cómo el cielo se torna rosado sobre la costanera marítima es una de las mejores presentaciones de la ciudad.

T his city is located in the east coast of the Province of Tierra del Fuego. It is considered worldwide as one of the most important places for fishing Brown Trout

and it is renowned as the International Capital of Trout. The rivers and lakes of the region represent a real Paradise for the lovers of this sport. There have been fish of more than 12 kilograms. The Brown Trout shows some particular features because when it is a river fish, some fish go out to the ocean to come back and spawn in the water flows. Because of its adapta-tion it is known as Native Trout. To get to Rio Grande, one must take the NR 3, which starts in the fueguian territory after the crossing of the Strait of Ma-gellan. It is without any doubt, the industrial center of the major importance in the province. The first white people installed here at the end of the XIX century; and just in 1921, this city was settled down and through the years, it became the most important economic center. The first people gave origin to a series of estancias dedicat-ed to sheep industry that was always one of the most out-standing activities. This activity was moved away in 1959 with the discovery of oil in the region. This attracted a big number of people, mainly from the neighbour country. Río Grande is a city with a strong impulse to grow. The Na-tional Route 3 takes us direct to Rio Grande, the second most relevant city in Tierra del Fuego. The road was marked to-gether with the old bridge to cross the river and it converges in Santa Fe Avenue, where there is the Boulevard Paseo de la Ciudad and the Boulevard Crucero General Belgrano. Ar-riving at the sunset and observe how the sky becomes pink on the coastline is one of the best introductions of the city.
