“O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you de-

sire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.”

Why does Jesus says to the woman “great is your faith”? Be-

cause in her prayer, she recognizes “Jesus as the Messiah

(the Son of David), she expresses her need in clear, simple

words; she persists, undismayed by obstacles; and she ex-

presses her request in all humility: ‘have mercy on me.’ Our

prayer should have the same qualities of faith trust, persever-

ance and humility. This dialogue between Jesus and the

woman is especially beautiful. By appearing to be harsh he so

strengthens the woman’s faith that she deserves exceptional

praise: ‘Great is your Faith!’ Our own conversation with Christ

should be like that: “Persevere in prayer. Persevere even

when your efforts seem barren. Prayer is always fruitful” (St

Jose Maria Escrivá). (The Navarre Bible Commentary, Gos-

pel of Matthew).

The letter to the Hebrews says that “faith is the realization of

what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” (11:1) The

Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “Faith is a gift of

God, a supernatural virtue infused by him. Before this faith can

be exercised, man must have the grace of God to move and

assist him; he must have the interior helps of the Holy Spirit,

who moves the heart and converts it to God, who opens the

eyes of the mind and 'makes it easy for all to accept and be-

lieve the truth.” (153) “Faith is a personal adherence of man to

God. At the same time, and inseparably, it is a free assent to

the whole truth that God has revealed. As personal adherence

to God and assent to his truth, Christian faith differs from our

faith in any human person. It is right and just to entrust oneself

wholly to God and to believe absolutely what he says. It would

be futile and false to place such faith in a creature.” (150) To

live, grow and persevere in the faith until the end we must

nourish it with the word of God; we must beg the Lord to in-

crease our faith;

it must be "working through charity,"

abounding in hope, and rooted in the faith of the

Church.

(CCC 162) Faith is not just to believe in God and

everything he has given us for our salvation but to believe God

and trust that what he says is true and will come about.

fallscatholic.org under the faith formation tab. You can drop off registration forms at the parish office or

email them to [email protected]. Please note, due to the health concerns that our community is

facing, classes will be held one Saturday a month in person (9am-12:30pm) and the rest will be taught at

home. Classes will begin Saturday, September 12th. If you have any questions please contact Juana at

Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Mujer, ¡qué grande es tu fe! ¡Que se cumpla tu deseo!». Y en ese momento su

hija quedó curada. (Mateo 15:28)

Fe es creer lo que no vemos, y la recompensa de la fe es ver lo que creemos. ¿Por qué le dice Jesús a

la mujer "grande es tu fe”? Porque en su oración, ella reconoce "a Jesús como el Mesías (el Hijo

de David), ella expresa su necesidad con palabras claras y sencillas; ella insiste, sin desanimarse ante

los obstáculos; y ella expresa su solicitud con toda humildad: 'ten misericordia de mí. "Nuestra ora-

ción debe tener las mismas cualidades de confianza, fe, perseverancia y humildad. Este diálogo en-

tre Jesús y la mujer es especialmente hermoso. Dando la impresión de ser muy duro Jesús fortalece la

fe de la mujer que se merece un reconocimiento especial: «¡Grande es tu fe" Nuestra propia conversa-

ción con Cristo debe ser así: "Perseverar en la oración. Perseverar incluso cuando tus esfuerzos pare-

cen estériles. La oración es siempre fecunda "(San José María Escrivá de Balaguer). (El Comenta-

rio Navarra Biblia, Evangelio de Mateo).

La Carta a los Hebreos dice: “La fe es la garantía de los bienes que se esperan, la plena certeza de las

realidades que no se ven. (11:1) El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica afirma: “La fe es un don de Dios,

una virtud sobrenatural infundida por Él. «Para dar esta respuesta de la fe es necesaria la gracia de

Dios, que se adelanta y nos ayuda, junto con los auxilios interiores del Espíritu Santo, que mueve el co-

razón, lo dirige a Dios, abre los ojos del espíritu y concede "a todos gusto en aceptar y creer la ver-

dad."(153) “La fe es ante todo una adhesión personal del hombre a Dios; es al mismo tiempo e insepa-

rablemente el asentimiento libre a toda la verdad que Dios ha revelado. En cuanto adhesión personal a

Dios y asentimiento a la verdad que Él ha revelado, la fe cristiana difiere de la fe en una persona huma-

na. Es justo y bueno confiarse totalmente a Dios y creer absolutamente lo que Él dice. Sería vano y erra-

do poner una fe semejante en una criatura” (cf. Jr 17,5-6; Sal 40,5; 146,3-4). (150)… Para vivir, crecer y

perseverar hasta el fin en la fe debemos alimentarla con la Palabra de Dios; debemos pedir al Señor que

nos la aumente (cf. Mc 9,24; Lc 17,5; 22,32); debe «actuar por la caridad» (Ga 5,6; cf. St 2,14-26), ser

sostenida por la esperanza (cf. Rm 15,13) y estar enraizada en la fe de la Iglesia.” (CCC162) La fe no es

solo creer en Dios y en todo lo que Él nos ha dado para nuestra salvación, es sobre todo creerle a Dios,

confiar en su palabra y en que todo lo que Él ha prometido se realizará.

¿Qué le pasa a tu fe cuando parece que Dios no responde? ¿Dejas de orar o persistes en la oración?
