Si se tiene la E. D. g(x) = h(y)y, se puede escribir g(x) dx = h(y) dy; si se establece que G es una primitiva de g y H una de h, tendremos G(x) dx = H(y) dy e, integrando, G(x) = H(y) + C, que es la solucin general de la ecuacin. Ejemplo Resolver: dy/dx + (sen x)y = 0

Solucin:
Despejando, dy/y = (sen x) dx e, integrando, log y = cos x + c, es decir, y=
ecos x+c. Sin mas que tomar K = ec encontramos las soluciones y = Kecos
x. Fijarse que, en principio, parece que K tiene que ser positiva; pero en
realidad la integral de dy/y es log |y|, lo que nos llevara a soluciones con
valores negativos de K. Por ultimo, notar y = 0 (es decir, tomar K = 0)
tambin es claramente una solucin de la E. D., aunque no se obtiene con
el metodo seguido. As pues, la solucin general de la E. D. es de la forma
y = Kecos x con K R.

EN MATEMTICAS, UNA ECUACIN DIFERENCIAL ORDINARIA (COMNMENTE ABREVIADA "EDO") ES LA QUE CONTIENE UNA FUNCIN DESCONOCIDA DE UNA VARIABLE INDEPENDIENTE Y QUE ESTA RELACIONADA CON SUS DERIVADAS: o UNA SOLA VARIABLE INDEPENDIENTE (A DIFERENCIA DE LAS ECUACIONES
DIFERENCIALES PARCIALES QUE INVOLUCRAN DERIVADAS PARCIALES DE VARIAS VARIABLES), Y
o UNA O MS DE SUS DERIVADAS RESPECTO DE TAL VARIABLE.
La trayectoria de un proyectil lanzado desde
un can sigue una curva definida por una ecuacin
diferencial ordinaria que se deriva de la segunda ley de
Newton.
En ingeniera, ciencias naturales y sociales hay muchos problemas de inters que, cuando se plantean, exigen la determinacin de una funcin la cual debe verificar una ecuacin que involucra derivadas de la funcin desconocida. Dichas ecuaciones se denominan ecuaciones diferenciales

UNA SOLUCIN GENERAL DE UNA ECUACIN DE ORDEN N ES UNA SOLUCIN QUE CONTIENE N VARIABLES ARBITRARIAS, CORRESPONDIENTES A N CONSTANTES DE INTEGRACIN.

POSIBLE PRDIDA DE UNA SOLUCIN
Cuando r es un cero de h(y), si sustituimos y(x)= r en dy/dx = g(x)h(y), tenemos 0 = 0. Es decir, y(x) = r tambin es solucin de dy/dx = g(x)h(y).
Sin embargo, esta solucin no se revelar tras la integracin, puesto que:
dy/h(y) = g(x) dx queda indefinido en el cociente (h(y = r) = 0). Entonces y(x) = r es una solucin singular.

Si se factoriza la EDO: dy/dx = (y + 2)(y 2), y se iguala a 0, se obtiene y = 2 como soluciones de equilibrio. y = 2 corresponde a c = 0 en la solucin. Pero y = -2 es una solucin singular que no se puede obtener de la solucin anterior (observa las fracciones parciales al comienzo para entender por qu).

Separando variables tenemos:

2 y = (x2/2 + c)
y = (x2/2 + c)2. Como y(0) = 0, c = 0 , la solucin que se obtendr ser: y = x4/16
Se ha perdido la solucin trivial y(x) = 0 en el trmino dy/y y que tambin cumple la condicin inicial. Entonces, as se encuentre una solucin particular para una ED de primer orden al conseguir determinar c mediante una condicin inicial, es posible que la solucin no sea nica.
En este caso el Problema de Valor Inicial(PVI) posee una infinidad de soluciones que podemos escribir con a 0 como:
