From the Pastor / Del Párroco Queridos feligreses, El Viernes Santo, mientras proclamaba la Pasión de San Juan, desde la Cruz, Jesús le dijo al discípulado amado, "aquí está tu madre", y a su madre, "aquí está tu hijo", dándonos así el modelo del discípulo misionero: que nos queramos los unos a los otros. Mientras camina- mos por la Cuaresma, la Semana Santa y el Viernes Santo; hemos reconocidos de nuestros propios defec- tos, egoísmo y pecados. No para que digamos: "No pue- do cambiar," sino que decimos, "por lo que hizo Jesús para cambiar el mundo, también puedo cambiar." El sufrimiento y la muerte de Jesús cambiaron el mundo. Él nos mostró el camino: al entregarnos a uno al otro. ! Que alegría la Pascua nos obligua a cada uno de no- sotros a mirar más profundamente cómo vivimos la pasión de Jesús en nuestra vida cotidiana! Creo que los adolescentes son ejemplos de este vida. Un grupo de jóvenes que todavia, no pueden votar, están dando forma a una nueva conversación sobre la realidad de la violencia armada en nuestro país. Están pidiendo leyes más sensatas sobre armas de fuego, en particular, quién debería tener el privilegio de com- prarlas y llevarlas. Son reflexivos, bien hablados y apa- sionados acerca de sus creencias. Y están llamando a nuestro gobierno a representar sus puntos de vista. Yo animo a todos a ser más "apasionados" en una causa o un ministerio. Les invito a revisar la carta pastoral de nuestro Ar- zobispo, Somos Uno en Cristo. Él nos ofrece una lista de temas que se refieren al "bienestar de la persona y la familia humana, desde la perspectiva de la An- tropología Cristiana y la Doctrina Social Católica, que creo que sirve de trampolín para cada uno de nosotros. Estos temas incluyen: aborto, inmigrantes y refugiados, racismo, crisis de opiáceos, violencia con armas de fue- go y la libertad religiosa. Agregaría a esta: la pobreza, el encarcelamiento de minorías, el trafíco humano, el abuso sexual, el medioambiente (calentamiento global, el abuso de animales, la extinción de especies de ani- males, plantas, etc. a medida de una humanidad que cree que puede hacer lo que quiere al planeta). He offers us a list of issues that concern “the wellbeing of the person and the human family, from the perspective of Christian Anthropology and Catholic Social Doctrine -which I think serves as springboard for each of us. These issues include: abortion, plight of immigrants and refugees, racism, the opioid crisis, gun violence, religious freedom. I would add to these poverty, the imprisonment of mi- norities, human trafficking, sexual abuse, environ- mental concerns (global warming), animal abuse, the extinction of species of animals, plants, etc. as hu- mankind does as it wills to the planet. Not one of us can take on each issue facing us, but as the body of Christ, I believe that each person can become in one concern facing us human beings and as Catholic Christians. This is my point: live life with passion. This is what makes life worth living. Next week, our parish will take up a collection for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. While the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access
to basic resources and pastoral care and are chal-lenged by high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund supports pastoral projects that strengthen their faith and foster lasting peace and reconciliation on a con-tinent often marked by division and tension.

daridad para la Iglesia en Áfri-
ca. Aunque la Iglesia en África está creciendo, mu-
chos todavía no tienen acceso a recursos y a cuida-
dos pastorales básicos y enfrentan un alto nivel de
pobreza y desempleo, al analfabetismo y a una edu-
cación deficiente. El Fondo de Solidaridad financia

The Pre-Cana conference is a 1 or 1.5 day workshop(depending on location) that uses the Joy-Filled Marriage Program. This program prepares couples to live a Joy-filled marriage, and addresses the issues and challenges engaged couples face today. Heavily rooted in Pope St. John Paul Il’s Theology of the Body, the program has two basic components-Life Skills and Catechetical. It will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, (13 East St. Louis Place, Batesville, In 47006) in the School cafeteria. First day takes place from 6:30pm-9:30pm. Second day goes from 9am-4pm. Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter was born on Luly 20, 1892 in New Albany, Indiana. He was the first Archbishop
of Indianapolis and is known for his groundbreaking efforts is desegregating the Indianapolis Catholic schools in 1937. He was made Cardinal in 1961 while serving as the Archbishop of St. Louis. Joseph Ritter was the only Archbishop of our Archdiocese ever to be named a Cardinal. While in St. Louis, he continued his work of integrating the Catholic schools. Cardinal Ritter serves as an example for our students, staff, and graduates. We honor his efforts toward achieving social justice by awarding this me-morial scholarship in the amount of $500 to deserv-ing 8th grade students who plan to attend Cardinal Ritter High School for their freshman year.
