Gulf Copper’s Port Arthur facility earlier thisyear completed a unique 18-month project tobuild the five massive buoys for SOFEC, buoyswhich will be used to offload liquid productsuch as diesel or gasoline in places lackingdeep-water ports.

The massive buoys pictured here are CatenaryAnchor Leg Mooring System, or CALM buoys,and SOFEC is a global leader in the supply ofCALM and SALM terminals globally. Each unitweighs in at 230-260 tons (depending on thenumber of heads) and the floating hull of thebuoy is tethered to the ocean floor offshore ofa storage or processing facility.
