Introduction

Page 8: Google Presentation

“Google+ is a initiative of google to make it easier for employees to socialise outside of work. However a only a handful created an account.

Problem One – Google+

An Email was sent out on Saturday 8th Feburary urging all staff to create an account and post a status update, however first employee to do so wrote “I cant believe we’re expeted to do this on the weekends – this is bullshit!”

Page 9: Google Presentation

Google+ - Conflicts

Inconvience

Having to socialise with colleagues outside of work on a weekend

Comes in between their leisure time

Google+ Competition

Employees would rather use Facebook

The functions of google+ has been outshined by Facebook and LinkedIn

Page 10: Google Presentation

Pluralist Perspective▸ Pluralist perspective is best stated as

when an organisations wants to achieve good employee relations it first musts acknowldge that various groups of employees have different requirements and make different demands. (Giles 1989, p.131)

▸ This theory would greatly help Google realise that its workplace is composed of diverse sets of beliefs ,values, attitudes and behaviours.

▸ Gives ample chance for employees to voice their opinions

Recomendations

Reward System

Can organise a point reward system that ensures whoever is daily active on google+ can win points that can lead to awards

Make it Optional

If employees know that its optional they will be more inclined to stay

Add Similar Functions to

Facebook

Messenger app

Promote Contests

Problem Two – Template Script

One of two sentences on what the case study said

Then say the two major concerns

▸ “We provided a script for her to use to greet her team members”

▸ “Received the highest number of resignations in any Google office in one day”

Page 13: Google Presentation

Template Scripts - Conflict▸ It is not always the ‘right’ thing to do

▸ Simple interaction like greetings should be natural

▸ The environment and the interactions seem forced and not genuine

▸ Scripts are better implemented when directed towards customers aimed at products, even then there are issues

Ethical theory - Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism“In utilitarianism business principle holds the morally right course of action in any situation is the one that produces the greatest balance of benefits over harms for everyone affected. So long as a course of action produces maximum benefits for everyone, utilitarianism does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or coercion.”(Thinking and managing economics: Business ethics: A utilitarian views of greater good, n.d)
