Halloween
When is Halloween?Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October
Where does Halloween come from?Halloween comes from Scotland and Ireland. It is based on the beliefs of people in Celtic speaking countries.
What did people think happened at Halloween?The souls of the dead came back to earth.
• The name ‘Halloween’ comes from the term ‘All Hallow’s Eve’.
• All Saints Day," or "All Hallows Day" was the next Day, Nov. 1st. Therefore, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day.
What do people do to celebrate Halloween?
• People dress up in costumes, for example: witches, ghosts, vampires.
• Adults dress up and go to parties with their friends.
• The children go trick-or-treating.
Why did people put a lantern outside their house at Halloween?
People put a lantern outside their house to frighten evil spirits
Today, Halloween lanterns are made from pumpkins!!
What is a pumpkin?A pumpkin is a fruit.
Halloween games• Apple bobbing- there is
a tub full of water with apples in it and you have to try to get the apples out with your mouth.
• Visiting scary haunted houses at Halloween is also very popular.
Halloween food• At Halloween people eat toffee apples
and lots of sweets.
