Introduction

Portakabin reached out to the ISS projects team in June 2015 for a potential refresh of the Hi Bay Theatre which is located at their head office in York. ISS F&H currently run the day to day operations of the canteen at this site.

The Hi Bay is a multi purpose building located at the rear of a 250,000m2 site. It is used as a conference room for both Portakabin and hired out to external companies to host events as well as a rehearsal venue for the Shepard Brass Band

The current layout of the building includes a foyer area which then leads into the conference area. There is another corridor that leads off to the gents and ladies toilet and a finishing kitchen.

With poor lighting levels, no air conditioning throughout, stained walls and highly worn carpets it was not in the best condition to use for events and hire out.

ISS were asked to come in and do a total refresh of the conference and foyer areas to make it a more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable for employees and visitors to the Hi Bay.

Project Brief

5

Within this project we planned to create an efficient and effective conference room facility for the Portakabin estate. When speaking to the Client we found we could achieve this vision by;

- Installing a new AC system to create a comfortable working environment

- Installing new lighting designed for a conference facility Inc. Controllable LED panels and 3 spotlights

- New ceiling grid providing better acoustics and sound quality.

- Redecoration works to all walls within the Hi-Bay

- New carpet tiles throughout the Conference area and the Foyer

- New matt well and blinds in the Foyer to create a welcoming entrance

- Creating a store room for Laptops and IT equipment

Air Conditioning System

17

• Daikin individual twin split systems

• Designed to split the units into three individual areas or to work as one large area if required.

• System comprise of an externally mounted heat pump condensing unit, ceiling cassette/wall mounted internal fan coils, interconnecting refrigerant pipework, control wiring, condensate

disposal pipework and controls

• To provide fresh air we have installed heat recovery units.

• This is the most environmentally friendly option keeping electrical loadings to a minimum

• Heat exchange ventilators recuperate 70% of the heat from exhaust air to pre-treat incoming fresh air and interface directly with the comfort cooling systems.
