2009 - Present Instructor – Brightwood College; El Paso, TX

Prepare and conduct lectures in a classroom environment on various computer/IT related topics, on subjects in the customer service and help desk fields, as well as on Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED). Provide hands-on instructions on computer hardware, software and troubleshooting. Utilize LabSim simulation software from TestOut to instruct and offer students additional hands-on training. Provide tutoring sessions and direct periods of instruction on subjects such as Mathematics, and English Grammar. Monitor students’ attendance. Distribute and grade assignments and examinations. Assist staff and faculty with computer-related issues.

1998 – 2009 Director of Management Information Systems – Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce; El Paso, TX

Responsible for the operation, maintenance, administration, management and upgrade of the Chamber’s computer/network and telecommunication/phone systems (at the client and server levels) in both Windows and IBM-AS400 environments. Initiated and coordinated purchase and service/maintenance agreements with software and hardware vendors utilizing budgeted funds and grants. Resolved computer related problems affecting individual staff members and/or the overall functioning of the Chamber’s computer network. Accomplishments

Researched, planned and coordinated the upgrade of our membership/association management database system from a stand-alone internal program to a web-based application to track and manage member and prospect information, interactions, relationships, events, financial transactions, purchases, invoices.

Researched, planned and documented all necessary material for the future upgrade of the audio/video capability of our conference rooms to transform them into a multimedia facility that will provide our staff and members with an interactive easy-to-use A/V environment.

Developed internal technical documentation for reference and training purposes and conducted periodic training sessions resulting in self-improvement and increased computer usage proficiency among employees.

Researched, planned and upgraded our time and attendance system from an outdated stand-alone system using manual time clocks and sheets to a network-based digital system that provided our accounting department faster and more efficient tracking and processing of employee work hours and payroll transactions.

Planned and coordinated the upgrade of our building automation system from a no-longer-supported stand-alone system to a web-based application with a diagram-based user interface from which all building management functions can be accessed and controlled. Reconfigured router and network settings accordingly so that the application can be securely accessed from any place with internet connectivity.

Coordinated and assisted in the upgrade of our entire internal telephone system from an analog-based Centrex and hardware PBX to a VoIP outsourced center. Coordinated the implementation of a WLAN.

Planned, proposed and implemented a server based network solution using Citrix Server and Microsoft Terminal Server which resulted in the consolidation of computing resources, simplified management, and access for employees of software applications and data from anywhere at any time.

Upgraded Microsoft Windows Server versions and fax server (FAXserve 8.0), configuring email, file, print, DHCP and fax servers on new hardware resulting in 100% increased capacity, output, and employee efficiency.

Improved the overall efficiency of the network by upgrading routers and switches, and implementing broadband connections.

Proposed and implemented a new LAN at a secondary site including remote connectivity with main site via a dedicated point-to-point T1 line and routers. Later, reconfigured this connectivity by implementing a VPN.

Successfully planned and executed Y2K computer system upgrades at the client and server levels, while implementing a network communication system using internet access through cable modem, email and file servers through MS Exchange 5.5 and Win-NT 4.0 respectively, and a fax server through FAXserve 5.0.
