Bienvenidos a una nueva edición del LIFE magazine. Ha sido un gran curso en El Centro Inglés. Realmen-

te comenzamos a ver el fruto de nuestro plan estratégico 2014-18 y aún queda mucho más por llegar. En esta revista podréis ver las innovaciones y los logros de los proyectos de nuestra comunidad, donde familias, alumnos y personal tra-baja conjuntamente para conseguir los mejores resultados posibles. Muchísi-mas gracias a todos por este curso, es-peramos que tengan unas vacaciones de verano estupendas y estamos deseando volver a verles en septiembre repletos de energía y entusiasmo.

Welcome to another edition of LIFE ma-gazine. It has been a fantastic year at The English Centre. We are really starting to see the fruit of our strategic planning for 2014-18 and there is still a lot more to come. In this magazine you will see innovations and achievements from our different projects throughout our com-munity as families, pupils and staff work together to achieve the very best results possible. A big thank you to everyone for this year, have a fantastic summer holi-day and we look forward to seeing you all again in September full of energy and enthusiasm.

Los que nos dedicamos a la ense-ñanza realmente tenemos suerte, la nuestra es una labor atractiva, enriquecedora, tratamos con perso-

nas, aprendemos de ellas y compartimos nuestro conocimiento con ellas. Es muy gratificante, nos ayuda a desarrollarnos; de ella salen todas las demás profesiones; es variada, cada día es diferente, cada día hay que buscar nuevos medios para superar las situaciones que surgen; nos vemos forzados a usar la imaginación, los sentimientos, la intuición, la creatividad y, a veces, la autoridad; creamos confianza y aprendemos a no traicionarla. Realmente hay pocas profesiones más bonitas, gra-cias por dejarnos compartirla con voso-tros. Un saludo

Those of us who have dedicated our lives to teaching really are very fortunate. Our job is enjoyable and fulfilling. As we deal with people, we learn from them and we share our knowledge. It is very rewarding and helps us to continue developing. In fact all professions stem from this one. In teaching there is variety, every day is diffe-rent. We constantly need to look for new ways to deal with situations that occur. We find ourselves having to use our imagina-tion, our feelings, our intuition, our creativi-ty and sometimes, our authority. We create trust and we learn how to honour it. There really are very few professions as beautiful as this one, thank you for letting us share it with you. Kind regards.

7. Desafío STEM. STEM Challenge. Los alumnos que cursan Diseño en 2º de Ba-chillerato participaron hasta el 3 de mayo en este certamen internacional, cuyo fallo se conocerá en septiembre de 2016.Upper Sixth Design pupils took part in this International challenge until the 3rd May, the results will be known in Septem-ber 2016.

Los alumnos de 1º de EPO han creado en Ciencias de la Naturaleza un libro para con-cienciar sobre el cuidado del Medio Am-biente y el Reciclaje. Darío Rivera ha sido el finalista (Segundo Premio) del XIX Certamen de relatos breves Hermana Josefa Soto de San Fernando. Dario Rivera was a finalist (Second Prize) in the San Fernando XIX Sister Josefa Soto short stories competition.

Federico Ross Vela (5º EPO) ha sido premia-do por la Agencia Tributaria en el concurso convocado por la Delegación en el marco del Programa de Educación Cívico Tributaria (PECT) de la Agencia Tributaria. José Luis Macías, María Castellano, María Hidalgo y Carmen García han sido se-leccionados. Sara Linares, de 2º de Bachi-llerato, ha sido nombrada Presidenta de la Comisión de Libertades Civiles, Justicia y Asuntos de Interior, dentro del Programa, patrocinado por Fundación San Patricio.José Luis Macias, María Castellano, María Hidalgo and Carmen García were selected to take part. Sara Linares was named Presi-dent of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Office matters in the programme, sponsored by the San Patricio Foundation.

Este curso 2015-16 ha sido realmen-te especial para la Comisión de Responsabilidad Social y su pro-yecto Our values are who we are. La cantidad de campañas solidarias,

acciones de voluntariado, charlas, alian-zas, etc., que hemos organizado este año, nos han hecho sentir que nuestro proyecto va tomando forma y ganando presencia en el día a día de nuestro Centro. Durante este curso hemos establecido nuevas alianzas con organizaciones solidarias de distintos ámbitos y hemos consolidado las que ya teníamos. Por ejemplo, con Madre Coraje hemos continuado con nuestras campa-ñas de años anteriores (hemos añadido además la clasificación de juguetes y latas por parte de los alumnos) y hemos comen-zado nuevas líneas de colaboración para los próximos años como, por ejemplo, el proyecto Reciclando sobre Ruedas.

También hemos continuado nuestro trabajo con Proyecto Hombre con accio-nes de voluntariado y charlas, o con Nue-va Bahía con la que hemos colaborado de nuevo, este año con toallas y sábanas. Muy a destacar son las jornadas de Educación en valores que hemos organizado en di-ferentes fechas: el Día Internacional de la Discapacidad (diciembre), de La Paz (fe-brero) y del Medio Ambiente ( junio). Todas ellas han sido jornadas muy especiales, llenas de experiencias vividas gracias a la gran cantidad de organizaciones que nos han visitado: ONCE, Feproami, La Gaviota, Amnistía Internacional, Acción contra el Hambre, Kimba, Patas, Infoca o la Universi-dad de Cádiz. Tampoco podríamos olvidar la campaña que hemos comenzado esta año, “Tapones que curan”, con la que he-mos movilizado durante este curso com-pleto a toda nuestra comunidad educativa

en la recolección de tapones de plástico para ayudar en la investigación médica que realiza la asociación Adiscon, con la que también hemos puesto en marcha la campaña Pig me up.

El curso 2016-17 se nos presenta reple-to de ideas y proyectos, de nuevos desa-fíos, que esperemos nos lleven a continuar mejorando en la educación en valores para que esta siga siendo una de las señas de identidad de nuestro Colegio. ¡Gracias a todos los que hacéis este sueño posible!

2015-16 has been very special for the Social Responsibility Commission and it’s “Our values are who we are” project. The number of charity collections, volunteers, talks, alliances etc., we have organised, has made us feel that our project is ta-king shape and gaining presence in our School’s day to day life.

Over the course of the year, we establi-

shed new alliances with charitable orga-nisations in different fields as well as con-solidating the ones we already had. For example, we have continued with the Ma-dre Coraje campaigns we ran in previous years (although pupils are now involved in classifying the tins of fish and toys) and opened new ways of collaborating in the future, such as the Recycling on Wheels Project. We have also continued our work with Proyecto Hombre through volun-teering and conferences, and with Nueva Bahia, collaborating with them again this year collecting towels and sheets.

Other highlights have been the orga-nisation of awareness days in the school: International Day for People with Disabi-lities (December), Peace Day (February) and Environment Day (June). All of these days were very special, full of enriching experiences that we enjoyed thanks to the great number of organisations that visited us: ONCE, Feproami, La Gaviota, Interna-tional Amnesty, Action Against Hunger, Kimba, Patas, Infoca or the University of Cádiz.

We cannot forget the campaign started this year “Bottle Tops that Heal”, where the entire educational community has taken an active part in collecting plastic bottle tops to help with the medical inves-tigation carried out by the Adiscon asso-ciation, with whom we have also launched the “Pig me up” campaign.

2016-17 is already full of ideas and pro-jects, new challenges, which we hope will help us to continue improving the educa-tion in values at school and ensure that re-mains one of our defining features. Thank you to all those who make this dream pos-sible!

Uno de los elementos fundamentales del IC es el uso de diferentes espa-cios de aprendizaje tanto dentro como fuera del aula, lo que se cono-

ce como “the outdoor classroom”. Nuestros alumnos tienen la oportunidad de disfrutar de diferentes contextos y actividades como

parte de su Curriculum, como un tour virtual del museo bri-tánico, un paseo para ver los graffitis al final de la calle como inspiración para crear el suyo, o una visita al museo de la miel. Nos damos una vuelta…

Disfrutan de un abanico de actividades muy amplio. Des-de Early Years animamos y facilitamos la posibilidad de vivir las cosas de primera mano y así brindarles la oportunidad de aplicar sus conocimientos y llegar a sus propias conclu-siones. Esto puede ser la creación de su rincón interactivo en EYFS o la búsqueda de plantas comestibles y la recogida de agua potable en el campo para los alumnos de secundaria.

One of the important features of the International Curri-culum is the use of different spaces for learning, both in- side and outside the classroom. Throughout the year pupils experience different environments and activities that come out of the curriculum. This ranges from a Virtual Tour of the British Museum, a walk up the road to see the graffiti in or-der to create their own, or a trip to the Honey Farm near Je-rez. Let’s take a quick walk through the year…

The range of activities is tremendous, from Early Years upwards we pupils encourage pupils to experience things firsthand so that they can apply their knowledge and use their own judgement. Whether it be creating an interactive corner in Early Years or Secondary pupils foraging and crea-ting water filters in the country.

Unidades de medidaUnits of Measurement“Profe, siempre olvido el orden de las unidades de me-dida”. Esta frase se repetía en alguna de las clases y por ello decidimos realizar este proyecto con los alumnos de 4º de EPO que han decorado las escale-ras del colegio con unidades de longitud, capacidad y masa. Para ello, han medido, coloreado y colocado los carteles en los distintos escalones.Ha sido una experiencia muy gratificante el utilizar espacios del Centro y darles un uso educativo. Siem-pre recordarán este proyecto y el orden correcto de las unidades. Además, hemos ayudado a que otros alumnos también las recuerden.

“Sir, I never remember the order of the units of me-asure”. We kept hearing this in some of our classes, so we decided to do this project with the Primary Year 4 pupils. They decorated the School stairs with units of measurement; length, capacity and mass. Pupils had to measure, colour and fix the signs on the diffe-rent steps.

It was a very rewarding experience to use the spa-ces around the school and give them an educational use. The pupils will always remember this project as well as the correct units of measurement and we have also helped other pupils remember them.

Alemán y FrancésGerman & FrenchNuestras clases de alemán/francés en Infantil y Prima-ria tienen como objetivo principal establecer un primer contacto con la lengua y cultura alemana/francesa de forma lúdica y atractiva para los niños. Esto se lleva a cabo mediante canciones, dibujos, pequeñas coreo-grafías y audiovisuales sobre temas relacionados con sus intereses y su entorno más próximo y familiar.El acercar un idioma a los alumnos en edades tem-pranas permite que los alumnos lo asimilen sin darse cuenta y adquieran la fonética de forma natural.German & French

The main aim of our German/French classes in Early Years and Primary is to establish a first contact with the language and culture in a fun and attractive child friendly way. This is achieved through songs, drawings, small choreographies and audio-visual resources linked to their interests and their understanding of the world. Exposing young children to a language ensures they assimilate the language and acquire the phonetics in a natural way.

Tomorrow´s PeopleLa gente del mañanaEl mundo moderno está cambiando, vemos que la robótica y la automo-ción en el puesto de trabajo es más y más común, lo cual requiere otras destrezas y habilidades. En respuesta a ello, el curso que viene nos embar-camos en un ambicioso proyecto de programación y robótica. “La Gente del mañana” es un proyecto que proporcionará a nuestros alumnos la in-creíble oportunidad de trabajar con equipos y software de última tecnolo-gía, integrando la robótica en todo el Centro centrándose en la combina-ción de STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, ingeniería y Matemáticas) en robótica, este proyecto dará a nuestros alumnos las habilidades del SXXI necesarias para el día de mañana.

The modern world is changing, more and more we are seeing robotics and automation in the workplace which requires different skill-sets and abilities. In response, next year we are embarking on an ambitious ro-botics and programming project. Tomorrow’s People is a project that will give our students the amazing chance to work with the very latest equip-ment and programming software embedding robotics throughout the the whole school. Focusing on the combination of STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in robotics this project will give our students the 21st Century skills they need in tomorrow’s world.

SuperabakínDentro del proyecto Mathuring Minds segui-mos trabajando con el programa UCMAS. Los alumnos destacados por su trabajo y su es-fuerzo han sido nuestros héroes. Realmente tienen poderes ya que pueden hacer “orals y mentals” a la velocidad del rayo y de forma correcta. Como recompensa final, mostramos su foto de grupo en nuestro mural de Re-cepción.

We continue to work with our UCMAS programme as part the Mathuring Minds project. Pupils who are outstan-ding in both their work and effort be-come our heroes. They really do have superpowers; they can do mental arithmetic correctly and at the speed of light.As a reward, we displayed the group photo on our mural in Reception.

eTwinningEste curso hemos solicitado un Erasmus proyecto KA2 2016-18 llamado “Clásicos del Siglo XXI” junto a colegios de Italia, Grecia y Polonia. Como parte de la solicitud, alumnos de latín de 4º de ESO y de Ba-chillerato han participado en un proyecto eTwinning titulado “Clásicos Fascinantes” en el que tuvieron que completar cuestionarios, participar con lluvias de ideas y crear comics que después compartirían con nuestros colegios socios. Los resultados fueron muy interesantes y cruzamos los dedos para que nos aprueben el proyecto para de este modo poder se-guir la relación con nuestros colegios socios.

This year we have applied for an Erasmus KA2 pro-ject for 2016-18 called “21st Century Classics” with schools in Italy, Greece and Poland. As part of the application pupils of Latin in 4º ESO and Bachillerato took part in an eTwinning project called “Fascinating Classics” where they had to do questionnaires, bra-instorming and create comics to share with our part-ner schools. The results were very interesting and fingers crossed that we have our project approved so we can develop the relationships with our partner schools.

muchos roles”.Eso es lo que nos dijo Shakespeare duran-te nuestro Eisteddfod este curso. El tema central de nuestras celebraciones fue el 400º aniversario de Shakespeare. Esa cita, de muchas maneras, define nuestro Eis-teddfod a la perfección. Según pasan los alumnos por las etapas del Colegio, repre-sentan muchos roles distintos dentro del Eisteddfod: desde los alumnos de 2 años, con sus preciosos trajes típicos galeses, los alumnos de 5 años que dan vida a nuestro gran dragón (Draig Goch), nuestras baila-

rinas de las flores de 3º de EPO, los que representan el baile escocés de 1º de ESO o los nuevos Head Boy y Head Girl. A todo lo anterior le añadimos actuaciones, com-peticiones, eventos deportivos, talleres y música.

Shakespea-re’s 400th anniversary was the central the-me of the celebrations this year. In many ways that quote sums up our Eisteddfod perfectly. As pupils move through the

school they play many different parts in the Eisteddfod from our 2 year olds, beau-tifully dressed in Welsh costumes, our 5 year olds who bring our big dragon (Draig Goch) to life, our flower dancers in Year 3, the Scottish dancers in 1º ESO or the new Head Boy and Head Girl. When you add to that all the performances, competitions, sports, workshops and music then, in their time at The English Centre, a pupil really will play many parts at the Eisteddfod.

Apart from it being a very pleasant sur-prise, to have been named Head Boy and Head Girl has been an honour for us. It is a role of great responsibility and importance within the school organisational structure. We are very grateful that we were chosen and we hope to perform as well as our pre-decessors, Paula and Jorge. We would like all pupils to know we are here for anything they might need. TEATROBodas de sangreUna intensa emoción recorrió el Hall cuando las campanas dobla-ron al finalizar la representación de Bodas de sangre, obra estrenada este curso por los alumnos del taller de Teatro de Bachillerato. No es fácil llevar a escena una tragedia, pero estos verdaderos profesiona-les demostraron que con esfuerzo e implicación todo se puede. ¡Cuánto disfrutamos!

The Hall was awash with an emotional intensity as the bells tolled at the end of this year’s play “Bodas de Sangre”. It was the first time this play was performed by pupils from our Sixth Form Drama workshop. Staging a tragedy is not an easy task, but this group of real professionals proved that anything can be achieved through effort and commitment. We really enjoyed it!

ECI Global ChallengeEstamos encantados de que nuestro ECI Global Challenge vaya a co-menzar en 2016-2017 y de que ya dispongamos de nuestro grupo de alumnos que será el pionero de este programa. Además de 7 semanas en Gales asistiendo al Colegio St. Michael’s y de participar en ECI Global

Challenge, los alumnos participarán en actividades antes y después del programa, para asegurar que aprovechan al máximo su estancia en el Reino Unido. Nuestra casa, Ael y Bryn, está acabada, es genial y queda a la espera de la llegada de nuestros alumnos.

We are delighted to be launching our ECI Global Challenge in 2016-17 and we have our first group of pupils who will be the pioneers of the programme. As well 7 weeks in Wales going to St. Michael´s School and taking part in the ECI Global Challenge Award pupils will be involved in activities before and after the programme to make sure they get the most from their time in the UK. Our house, Ael y Bryn, is finished, looks great and waiting for our pupils arrival.

Este año estamos de celebración ya que el 7 de junio tuvo lugar la X Edición del Día de la Ciencia.Como es habitual, nuestros alum-

nos de 4º ESO ejercieron de maestros de ceremonias, dirigiendo actividades, prác-ticas y exposiciones que llevaban meses preparando.También contamos con la colaboración de profesores que llevaron a cabo intere-santes talleres así como la de expertos en distintas disciplinas científicas y tecnoló-gicas, que nos acompañaron ese día (un experto en ciencia divertida, un veterina-rio, un arqueólogo, instructores de vuelo de drones,…).Además, se anunciaron los proyectos de investigación premiados en nuestro I Cer-tamen Científico Interno.El objetivo se cumplió: pasar un día diver-tido...e instructivo.

This year we celebrated the 10th Edition of our Science Day on the7th June.As always, our Secondary year 4 pupils played the role of Master of ceremonies, directing the activities, experiments and exhibitions that they had spent months

preparing. Lots of teachers and experts from va-rious scientific and technological fields (a fun-science expert, a vet, an archaeo-logist or drone flight instructors…) also collaborated with some interesting work-shops.We also announced the winning research projects for our I Internal Scientific Contest. The objective was met: to have a fun day full of learning.

en las calles del centro de nuestra ciudad para acercar la literatura, y especialmente la escritura, a todos, y los encuentros lite-rarios con Ana Osborne, autora del libro in-fantil Al-Revesilandia y con Felipe Benítez Reyes, Premio Nacional de literatura y au-tor de El azar y viceversa. Ha sido un curso fantástico, repleto de actividades y del que destacamos la ilusión y excelente trabajo de nuestros alumnos y la fascinación que sentimos por esta aventura literaria. The School for Young Writers “Palabra-mos” finished its first year with a variety of literary events. There were the activities run by our pupils in the city centre to bring literature and writing closer to the people and the literary meetings with Ana Osbor-ne, author of the children’s book Al-Reve-silandia and with Felipe Benítez Reyes, National literary Prize winner and author of El azar y viceversa. It has been a fantastic year, full of activi-ties, where our pupils’ eagerness and ex-cellent work and the fascination we feel for this literary adventure shone through.We have already started to prepare next year’s programme. Los alumnos de El Centro Inglés realizan pruebas externas de inglés internaciona-les de la Universidad de Cambridge: First Certificate ( FCE ), CAE ( Advanced in Engli-sh ), CPE ( Proficiency in English ) cada cur-so escolar. Cada uno de estos exámenes corresponde a los niveles B2, C1 y C2 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas.

¿Cómo evitar que nuestros alumnos ten-gan menos presión a la hora de afrontarlas?El Departamento de Idiomas, además de marcar unos objetivos en inglés a los alumnos, prepara cada año un Simula-cro de estos exámenes con el fin de que ya tengan experiencia en la realización y, de este modo, puedan transmitir con más tranquilidad sus conocimientos en la len-gua anglosajona para obtener los resulta-dos más altos.

Every year The English Centre pupils take International Cambridge University ex-ternal tests: First Certificate (FCE), CAE (Advanced in English), CPE (Proficiency in English). These exams correspond to levels B2, C1 and C2 of the Common Eu-ropean Framework of Reference for Lan-guages.

How can we ensure our pupils feel less pressure when taking these exams?The MFL Department sets English learning objectives for our pupils and prepares a Mock examination to ensure pupils live the experience of taking this exam. This means they feel calmer when they take the real exams and helps them to obtain the highest marks possible.

El Centro Inglés celebra un año más el Simulacro de Selectivi-dad para los alumnos de 2º de Bachillerato.

El acceso a la Universidad comien-za con la realización de estas prue-bas. La necesidad de alcanzar una calificación, que permita comenzar los estudios universitarios desea-dos, presiona exageradamente a los alumnos, por ello, desde hace ya seis años, el Centro viene realizando con los alumnos de 2º de Bachillerato un Simulacro de Selectividad.

Al ser uno de los exámenes más im-portantes y decisivos de sus vidas, ponemos especial cuidado en la pre-sentación y la estructuración de la prueba, realizándola fuera del Centro y con un horario similar al de la prue-ba real que se celebra en la Universi-dad.

Esta iniciativa, pionera en la provin-cia, de nuestro Colegio ha logrado que nuestros alumnos demuestren más templanza a la hora de realizar dicha prueba y estén más preparados y sin miedo a afrontar una situación nueva para ellos.

The English Centre holds a Mock “Selectividad” examination for the Upper Sixth pupils.

Access to University begins with these tests. Pupils are under a lot of pressure to achieve the grades they need to get into their preferred university. That is why we have held mock exams for the last six years.

As this is one of the most important exams in their lives, and may go some way to deciding their future, the school takes special care to en-sure the setting and structure of the exams is as close to the real thing as possible. The exams are out of school and follow a similar timetable to the real tests which take place in a uni-versity. This School initiative, pioneer in the province, ensures our pupils feel calmer when faced with the real test, as they are more prepared and do not fear facing a new situation.

Desde Early Years animamos a las familias a participar de forma activa en el aprendi-zaje diario de sus hijos, nuestros alumnos. Por este motivo, este curso hemos amplia-do a las familias el tiempo disponible para acercarse a clase a leer un cuento o para hablar a los alumnos sobre sus profesio-nes. La lectura de cuentos a los pequeños es recomendable, divertido, no solo para los peques, también para las familias. Hemos recibido una gran respuesta por parte de los padres, y muchos han venido a com-partir un rato con la clase: cuentos, mú-sica, baile, disfraces…, lo cual enriquece nuestro mundo.Acercamos nuestras profesiones a nues-tros alumnos, intentamos que entiendan

el valor de todas las profesiones para nues-tra sociedad, y esto se logra con la ayuda de las familias. Agradecemos la participa-ción en esta área y, ¡seguimos animando a participar!In Early Year we encourage our families to

take an active part in the daily learning of their children, our pupils. That´s why we have extended the time that our families can come into the classroom to read a story or tell us about their profession. Reading stories to our children is not only fun for them and the rest of family but it is fundamentally important. This year we had a great response from the families and many joined us to spend some time in class with stories, songs, dances and cos-tumes. They told us all kinds of stories in many different ways.We also work with our pupils so they un-derstand about all the different profes-sions out there and why they are all im-portant in their own way. Our family visits really help us to achieve this goal and we thank everybody who paid us a visit this year and encourage everyone to take part in the future!

El “VII COLECI Pádel Cup” disputado en las instalaciones del Club Las Marías cerró el pasado domingo 10 de abril con las se-mifinales y finales de cada categoría, unas jornadas deportivas llenas de emociones, gran juego y mucha intensidad en todos los partidos. Empezó el gran día con lluvia (las finales de adultos de la tarde se juga-ron en pistas cubiertas) que no influyó en los diferentes partidos en los que se pudo ver puntos muy disputados y un gran nivel deportivo. Durante los cinco días del Campeonato se pudo ver un gran ambiente en las pis-tas, destacando, sobre todo, la entrega de trofeos y sorteo de regalos que por causas climatológicas se celebró en el Pabellón deportivo del Colegio.

Se ha vivido una verdadera conviven-cia deportiva de padres, profesores, per-sonal del Centro, ex alumnos y alumnos. Oportunidad única para conocernos to-dos mejor, compartir experiencias y prac-ticar deporte.

La próxima edición os esperamos con

cambios para mejorar aún más. ¡Gracias a todos por participar!

The “VII COLECI Paddle Cup” was held at the Las Marias Club culminating on 10th April with semi-finals and finals in each ca-tegory. There were lots of intense matches full of emotion and sportsmanship. The big day began with rain (the afternoon adult finals were played on indoor courts) but it couldn´t change the outcome or quality of the matches that took place.

There was a great atmosphere on the courts throughout the 5 days of the tour-nament, especially during the awards ce-remony and prizes draw, which took place in the School Sports Hall due to the bad weather.

Parents, teachers, School staff, pupils

and former pupils were all brought toge-ther through sport. It is a unique opportu-nity to get to know each other better, share experiences and play sport.

We can´t wait for next year’s competi-tion that we are sure will be the best yet. Thanks to everyone for participating!!!

Estamos encantados de poder anunciar que este año hemos lanzado nuestro ECI Alumni club para antiguos alumnos de El Centro Inglés. Nuestro objetivo es con-vertirnos en un punto de encuentro para amistades del Colegio y profesores, recibir noticias sobre los logros de los alumnos, participar en la vida del Colegio, crear co-nexiones profesionales de gran utilidad y mantenernos informados sobre cómo vuestra educación en El Centro Inglés os acompaña durante vuestra vida.

Hasta ahora hemos creado el nombre y el logo para el club, los grupos de Facebook, hemos documentado todas las visitas en recepción y hemos diseñado una página web y una base de datos para almacenar la información actualizada de nuestro ECI Alumni. Tenemos un plan de desarrollo para los próximos 5 años, el cual incluye actividades, celebraciones, networking profesional y colaboraciones con alumnos actuales.

Este curso hemos tenido a ECI Alumni acompañando en salidas del Centro, reali-zando prácticas en el Colegio, presentando su trabajo a los alumnos, mostrando sus universidades a los alumnos, actuando en el Carol Concert y la Graduación y par-ticipando en eventos sociales y deportivos del Centro. Invitamos a todos nuestros ECI Alumni a ponerse en contacto con noso-tros, a pulsar Like en Facebook y a parti-cipar en el club, después de todo está ahí

Our aim is to be a meeting place for school friends with each other and their teachers. Here you can receive news on alumni achie-vements, take part in school life, create useful professional connections and follow up how your education at The English Cen-tre accompanies you on your life path.

So far we have created a name and logo for the club, a facebook group, we are re-cording all visits in reception and we have designed a web page and data base to

store all of the latest information on our ECI Alumni. We have a development plan for the next 5 years that includes activities, celebrations, professional networking and collaboration with our current pupils.

This year we have had ECI Alumni ac-companying school trips, doing work ex-perience in school, presenting their work to our pupils, showing our pupils around universities, giving speeches at the Carol Concert and Graduation and taking part in sports and social events in school. We would invite all of our ECI Alumni to get it touch with us, to like us on facebook and to take part in the club, after all it is there for you.

Dentro del Plan estratégico de ECI, una de las acciones más relevantes es la de ofertar a nuestros alumnos las experiencias más variadas, así

como colaborar con la sociedad de la que formamos parte y ofertar las mejores expe-riencias posibles tanto a nuestros padres y alumnos como al contexto social que com-partimos.

Este curso 2015-16 hemos desarrollado tres actividades dentro de este Plan Es-tratégico. La primera – coincidiendo con las elecciones – consistió en una mesa redonda con los partidos políticos donde tuvieron ocasión de exponer su programa político, especialmente en lo relativo a la educación, y el público tuvo la posibilidad de hacerles las preguntas oportunas.

El segundo de los seminarios tuvo como ponente a D. Emilio Calatayud, juez de me-nores de Granada quien, como era previ-sible, tuvo un éxito absoluto y llenó el hall del Colegio. El tercero de los seminarios fue impartido por D. Jose Antonio Marina, filósofo y pedagogo que ha revolucionado el mundo educativo a través de su “Libro blanco sobre la Profesión Docente”.

Pretendemos seguir en este misma lí-nea de actuación, ofertando a la sociedad y a nuestro entorno la mayor calidad y va-riedad de ponentes y actuaciones para de-leite y aprendizaje de todos.

One of the most important parts of the ECI Strategic Plan is to offer our pupils, fa-milies and community as wide a variety of experiences as possible, as well as collabo-rating with the society that surrounds us.

In 2015-16 we developed three acti-vities within the Strategic Plan. The first one- coinciding with the elections- was a debate with the political parties, where they had the opportunity to present their political programme, especially regarding educational issues, and where the audien-

ce had the possibility to have their questions answered.

Mr. Emilio Calatayud, juvenile court judge in Granada, was the speaker at the second seminar. He was, unsurprisingly, a huge success and completely filled the School hall. The third seminar was given by Mr. Jose Antonio Marina, philosopher and pedagogue who has totally revolutionised the educational world through his book “White book of teaching”.

We intend to continue this line of action, offering our community the best quality and variety of speakers and events for their enjoyment and learning.

Las salidas culturales de Secundaria ya están consolidadas y los alumnos esperan con ilusión sus viajes a Granada, Córdoba y Madrid, desti-nos en los que disfrutan de la compañía de pro-

fesores y amigos mientras conocen nuestro gran pa-trimonio artístico y cultural. Visitas a la Mezquita, a La Alhambra o al Museo del Prado se han convertido en actividades muy significativas que aportan un gran valor. La ilusión por estas salidas ya comienza en el Primer ciclo de Primaria con la actividad de la Granja escuela, ¡primera noche fuera de casa!, y se amplía con las dos magníficas acampadas de 5º de EPO en la Hacienda Barriche y de 6º de EPO en El Picacho, en las que múltiples actividades permiten que los alumnos se sientan felizmente relacionados con su entorno natural.La Toscana ha sido el destino elegido este curso por los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato para realizar su úl-tima salida cultural y de convivencia, y despedir sus años en el Centro.

Our Secondary School cultural trips and Primary School camps have now been consolidated in the school programme. Pupils get very excited about their trips to Granada, Córdoba and Madrid. On the trips they enjoy their teachers´ company, as well as each other’s while learning about our great cultural and historical heritage. Visits to the Mesquita, La Alham-bra or to the Prado Museum have become very mea-ningful activities that add value to our curriculum.

We start our extra curricular trips with our Year 2 trip to the School Farm. For many this is their first night away from home! We continue with two won-derful camping trips for Primary Year 5 at Hacienda Barriche and Primary Year 6 at El Picacho, where pu-pils enjoy lots of different activities out in the country.

Lower Sixth pupils have chosen Tuscany as the destination for their last cultural and team-building trip. What better way to say farewell to their time at the School.

Alumnos, personal y familias se reunie-ron de nuevo para este tradicional fin de curso. Disfrutamos de una gran represen-tación por parte de los alumnos de Early Years de la obra El Gigante Egoísta, reple-ta de color, música y bailes. Los alumnos de Primaria nos deleitaron con actuacio-nes notables, al igual que los participan-tes de baile moderno, y, por supuesto, diversión y juegos en el Park con personal y con nuestros amigos del Club de Fútbol Americano Los Seagulls. Feliz verano a todos. Pupils, staff and families came toge-ther again for this end of year tradition. There was an incredible performance of The Giants Garden by Early Years with lots of colour, music and dancing. There were memorable performances from Pri-mary pupils and from our modern dan-cers and of course there were fun and ga-mes in the park with staff and our friends from Seagulls American Football Club and our comission for social awareness. Happy summer everyone.

Hemos disfrutado de muchos momentos preciosos y de actuaciones memorables durante los conciertos de fin de curso de este año. Es una gran satisfacción, para los que asistimos a los conciertos de fin de curso, el poder comprobar el progreso de los alumnos año tras año, ver cómo se enfrentan a retos más difíciles y cómo los superan. La belleza de la música se hace evidente cuando un alumno domina su instrumento y desarrolla su estilo propio al tocar dicho instrumento. Enhorabuena a todos los alumnos por todas las horas dedicadas a practicar, horas que no vemos aquí en el Centro, pero que apreciamos durante los conciertos, y enhorabuena también a todos los miembros de la Escuela de Música por su apoyo y su cuidada guía.

There were so many memorable moments and beautiful performances at our end of year concerts this year. There is a tremendous satisfaction for those of us who go to the concerts every year in seeing pupils progress, attempt more difficult challenges and overcome them. The beauty of the music shines through as pupils begin to dominate their instrument and develop their own style of playing. Many congratulations to all the pupils for all the hours of practice they put in that we don´t see here in school but we do hear at the concerts and congratulations too to all the members of the School of Music for their support and careful guidance

ComunionesCOMMUNIONS

Al igual que en años anteriores, el día 28 de mayo celebramos en la Capilla de Santa Catalina la Primera Comu-nión de 38 de nuestros alumnos de 4º de EPO. Fueron dos Eucaristías presididas por nuestro Capellán, D. Antonio Sabido, que además conta-ron con la presencia de catequistas, tutores y la colaboración voluntaria de miembros del Coro. Las familias quedaron muy satisfechas y agrade-cidas con las catequesis y con este día tan señalado que nuestros alum-nos y sus padres jamás olvidarán.

As in previous years, 38 of our Primary Year 4 pupils celebrated their First Communion at the Santa Catalina Chapel, on the 28th May. Our Cha-plain, Mr. Antoio Sabido celebrated two Masses, which were attended by catechists, tutors and a voluntary choir. Families were very happy and grateful for the catechisms and with this special day that neither pupils nor their families will ever forget.
