ASISTIMOS A UN CAMBIO DEparadigma en el sistema tradicional de re-laciones comerciales en el mercado delarte que una feria debe reconocer e inte-grar en su filosofía de trabajo. Esta es lacuarta edición de JUSTMAD y ya pareceque se entiende la posición de satéliteque la feria ha adquirido en estos años.El proyecto entra ahora en una fase demayor definición y se acerca a su posibleconsolidación. Una feria satélite trabajaun segmento de mercado, un circuito dedifusión y da visibilidad a agentes relacio-nados con el sector del arte de formacomplementaria a la feria principal. JUST-MAD aporta valor y calidad a la semanamás importante de la temporada artísticamadrileña con una propuesta especiali-zada en arte contemporáneo emergente.

Desde la primera edición de JUSTMADnos hemos centrado en desarrollar unaferia con personalidad, de mediano for-mato, con una estructura conceptualmuy definida y una selección de galeríaslo más rigurosa y coherente posible, in-tentando conciliar la excelencia artísticacon unos resultados financieros quepermitan la sostenibilidad del proyecto.JUSTMAD es una iniciativa privada queopera en un tablero de juego en el quese dirimen intereses profesionales rela-cionados con la comercialización de lacreación artística actual, entendiendoesta práctica de una manera más expan-dida y no solo vinculada a la venta de laobra final producida. En este sentido es

justo poner de relieve el brutal desequi-librio existente entre el apoyo que reci-ben las iniciativas feriales llevadas acabo por emprendedores privados y lasque se sustentan mediante la inyecciónde cuantiosos recursos públicos y sonademás gestionadas desde estructurasadministrativas que por su dimensión,están obsoletas.

Presentamos en esta cuarta edición dela feria una selección de galerías, espa-cios y proyectos de España, Europa yLatinoamérica con dos perfiles funda-mentalmente. Por un lado expositoresnoveles que vienen por primera vez aMadrid con la idea de generar visibili-dad y ventas de artistas, en algunoscasos muy jóvenes. Y por otro, exposi-tores veteranos que entienden JUST-MAD como una oportunidad, una pla-taforma desde la que presentar enMadrid y desde otra posición a artistasemergentes y de medio recorrido.

Este año nos interesa poner énfasis enlos aspectos esenciales que caracteri-zan al mercado del arte emergente ac-tual, como son la internacionalización,la creación de redes, la difusión de pro-yectos, nuevos modelos de galería y cir-cuitos transversales de producción yprofesionalización.

El arte emergente español, que en la feriatiene una presencia importante, está ensu mejor momento en cuanto a talento,

innovación, creación y nivel de excelen-cia. Los artistas están muy bien forma-dos, tienen una actitud activa y colabora-tiva. Además conocen bien su sector ylos diferentes circuitos que funcionan entorno al mismo. Todo ello está marcadoa fuego por un contexto muy débil encuanto a producción e inversión en pro-gramas, eventos e infraestructuras, loque dificulta su visibilidad en el exteriory su propia supervivencia como agentesesenciales del sector.

Las galerías son el eslabón de la cadenamás sensible a esta situación desde unpunto de vista empresarial y muchasestán en una situación financiera inso-portable. El actual gobierno no ha enten-dido que el futuro pasa por la producciónartística y de conocimiento y que los pa-íses que inviertan e innoven en educa-ción y cultura tendrán mucho ganado decara a competir en el nuevo contexto eu-ropeo que se está definiendo en la actua-lidad. En ese sentido subir el IVA al 21 %no sólo es innecesario, por el modestovolumen de negocio que mueve el mer-cado del arte, sino que demuestra unafalta de visión estratégica del ministro dehacienda al poner en peligro todo un sec-tor que prestigia al país en un momentoen que la marca España está muy deva-luada en el exterior.

El mercado actual está débil, pero losembrado en los últimos 20 años nocaerá en saco roto. Se ha producido un

crecimiento exponencial en el coleccio-nismo de arte contemporáneo. A pocoque repunte la situación económica, lasituación se animará y se entrará denuevo en una dinámica expansiva. Hayespecial curiosidad por la creación emer-gente y ya existe una generación de jóve-nes coleccionistas que lo aprecian. Ob-viamente la situación todavía dista de serideal para un país que mueve las cifrasde renta que tiene España ya que en nú-meros absolutos, los coleccionistas si-guen siendo pocos todavía.

Hemos hablado con los coleccionistasespañoles, con los incipientes y los ex-perimentados. Todos son conscientesde su papel legitimador y su responsa-bilidad social. Nos toca mover fichacomo sociedad a través de los repre-sentantes políticos que libremente de-signamos para que defiendan nuestrosintereses en el Parlamento. Una buenaley del mecenazgo incentivaría las in-versiones, una mayor sensibilidad de laciudadanía hacia el mecenas y los em-prendedores culturales favorecería sureconocimiento social y una labor desensibilización desde las escuelas haciael hecho artístico permitiría revertir enunos años esa carencia que tiene Es-paña en comparación con otros países.Estos elementos, exenciones fiscales,reconocimiento social y educación, sonesenciales para poder generar unamasa crítica de coleccionistas-mece-nas-benefactores en el futuro.

NOWADAYS, WE AREWITNESSING A PARADIGMshift in the traditional relationshipsbusiness system in the art market thata fair should recognize and integrateinto its working philosophy. This isJUSTMAD´s fourth edition and it seemsthat the position of our fair as a satelliteone has been fully acquired in theseyears. The project now enters a phaseof higher definition and approaches itspossible consolidation. A satellite fairworks a market sector, a broadcastingcircuit and gives visibility to agentsrelated to the art field as acomplimentary way to the main fair.JUSTMAD provides value and quality tothe most important week of the Madridartistic season with a specializedproposal in emerging contemporary art.

Since JUSTMAD´s first edition we havefocused on developing a medium formatfair with personality, a well definedconceptual structure and a rigorousand coherent selection of galleries,trying to reconcile the artisticexcellence with financial results thatallows the sustainability of such aproject. JUSTMAD is a private initiativethat operates in a field in which careerinterests are settled, related to thecommercialization of the most currentartistic creation, understanding thispractice in a more expanded way andnot just linked to the sale of the finalwork produced. In this sense,

JUSTMAD is a fair which highlights thebrutal imbalance between the supportto fair initiatives carried out by privateentrepreneurs and the ones that aresupported by the injection ofsubstantial public resources and arealso managed from the administrativestructures that due to their size arecompletely out-dated.

We present in this fourth edition aselection of Spanish, European andLatin American galleries, spaces andprojects with two main profiles. On onehand, inexperienced exhibitors thatcome for their first time to Madrid withthe idea of generating visibility andsales by new artists, in some of thecases, really young ones. On the otherhand, we can find expert exhibitors whounderstand JUSTMAD as anopportunity, a platform from which topresent in Madrid and from anotherway, to present emerging and midcareerartists.

This year we want to emphasize on theessential aspects that characterize theemerging contemporary art market,such as internationalization, networking,project dissemination, new galleriesprototypes as well as production andprofessional cross-wise circuits.

Spanish emerging art, which has asignificant presence at the fair, is at itsbest in terms of talent, innovation,

creation and level of excellence. Theartists are very well trained and have anactive and collaborative attitude. Theyalso know their field and its variouscircuits. All this is marked with fire by avery weak context in terms ofproduction and investment inprogrammes, events andinfrastructures, hindering their visibilityabroad and their own survival as anindustry in our country.

The galleries are the most sensitivechain link in this situation, from thebusiness stance and many of them areliving an unbearable financial situation.The current Government has notunderstood that the future goesthrough the artistic production andknowledge and that most of thecountries that are currently investingand innovating in education and culturewill have much live-stocked in order tocompete in the new European context,that is currently being defined.Regarding this, the VAT raise towards a21% is not only unnecessary because ofthe modest business volume that movesthe art market, but also demonstrates alack of strategic vision of the Ministerof Finance, which endangers a sectorthat gives prestige to the country at atime when the Spanish brand is verydevalued abroad.

The present market is weak, but whatwas strewn in the past 20 years will not

fall on deaf ears. There has been anexponential growth in collectingcontemporary art. Once the economicalsituation will rise, the new state will beencouraged and will entered again in anexpansive dynamism. There is a specialcuriosity for emerging creation andthere is already a generation of youngcollectors who appreciate it. Obviously,the situation is still far from being theideal one for a country that moves theincome numbers such as Spain does,where in absolute numbers, collectorsare still very few.

We have spoken to the Spanishcollectors, to the emerging and theexperienced ones. Everyone is aware oftheir social responsibility and theirlegitimizing role. It is our turn to move asa society through the politicalrepresentatives that we freely designateand who represent and defend ourinterests. A good patronage law wouldencourage investment; greatersensitivity of the citizenship towards thearts patron, and cultural entrepreneurswould boost their social recognition,together with a work of awareness fromschools on their road to the artistic field,would make all possible to reverse thelack Spain owes in comparison withother countries. These componentstogether with tax exemptions, socialrecognition and education are essentialto generate a critical mass of futurecollectors/patrons/ benefactors.

JUSTMAD nace en el año 2010 comouna feria de mediana escala que creeen el diálogo entre el visitante, el profe-sional, la galería y el artista, en una ciu-dad bisagra como Madrid, ligada tantoal contexto europeo como al americano.La estructura organizativa de JUS-TMAD 4 está presidida por Enrique Po-lanco, cuenta con un equipo formadopor Rocio Bardin, Arianne Gaazenbeek,Javier Duero como director artístico dela feria y un comité asesor formado porlas galerías NoMínimo (Guayaquil), EvaRuíz (Madrid) y La Caja Blanca (Lon-dres-Mallorca).

JUSTMAD es una iniciativa de ART-FAIRS, empresa española especializadaen ferias de arte, y que organiza desde2009 la feria internacional de fotogra-fía MADRIDFOTO, y desde 2012 JUS-TMAD MIA, feria de arte emergente enla ciudad de Miami.

ARTFAIRS cuenta para la organizaciónde la feria JUSTMAD 4 con la colabo-ración de diferentes entidades públicasy privadas.

JUSTMAD is aninitiative of ARTFAIRS, a Spanishcompany specialized in art fairs, andwhich organizes since 2009 theinternational photography fairMADRIDFOTO, and from 2012,JUSTMAD MIA, an exhibition ofemerging art in the city of Miami.

PROGRAMA GENERAL

Es la estructura principal de la feria. Enel mismo, una selección de galerías es-pañolas, europeas y latinoamericanasque trabajan con creación emergente,presentan tres artistas en stands espe-cificamente diseñados para ello. Es yauna realidad que diferentes modelos degestión de las galerías, diferentes gra-dos de representanción de los artistasy diversos sistemas de producción delas obras co-existen en esta edición dela feria.

La producción artística presentada eneste programa es, por lo general, obrainédita de artistas emergentes o demedio recorrido y constituye el princi-pal atractivo para que los coleccionis-tas y profesionales interesados puedanadquirir y conocer de primera mano susobras más recientes.

GENERAL PROGRAMME

The main structure of the fair. Withinit, a selection of Spanish, Europeanand Latin American galleries whowork with emerging creation eachpresenting three artists in boothsspecially designed for the purpose. Itis already evident that differentmanagement models of the galleries,different degrees of representation ofthe artists and diverse systems ofproduction of the works, coexist inthis edition of the fair.��

The artistic production presented inthis program is, in general,unprecedented work from emerging ormid-career artists and constitutes themain attraction so that the collectorsand interested professionals can getto know at first hand their mostrecent works.

In JUSTDesign we will find the work of aselection of national and internationaldesigners. Objects in a subtle balancebetween chaos and order, industrialdesign and craftsmanship. There arepieces that find themselves comfortableon the thin line between design andsculpture.

The function is still present in eachpiece, offering stories that go beyondthe utilitarian justification andoptimization production of the moretraditional XX century design school.

The cold industrial design is reinventedin new production systems, specificallydesigned for the production of eachpiece that will end up as a unique andunrepeatable work.

objective is to project a minimum moduleto be built with economical andenviromentally responsible materials andelements, which posses a flexible andadaptable use, with a lesser cost andcomplexity. All these could come to anykind of destination, looking to attend therelated emergency petitions, humanitaryhelp or cooperation for the development.This contest aims the conceptual

and constructive definition of aminimum area equipped with a clearfunction and intended for a use to bedetermined by the participant and thatthe jury will take into consideration fortheir evaluation.The unit country of destination will

be determined by the KonectaFoundation. The unit will be possiblylocated in a remote rural or urbanenvironment for which it must bepretend, as far as possible, a self-sufficient energycal and healthly unit.In the first edition the architect Julio

JUSTCAMPUSDesde JUSTMAD se pretende poner envalor el trabajo formativo en relacióncon el arte y potenciar las relacionesprofesionales que se generan entre loscreadores y los diferentes agentes cul-turales durante el desarrollo de su vidaprofesional. Esta forma de trabajo estáligada a la existencia de espacios deproducción, becas, talleres de trabajo,plataformas online que facilitan el en-cuentro y la puesta en común de ideas yestrategias. Estas prácticas, amplia-mente extendidas en muchos países eu-ropeos, son un elemento clave en el des-arrollo de las carreras profesionales delos artistas, especialmente de los jóve-nes y emergentes.

Se presentan varios modelos de refe-rencia en la formación de artistas yagentes culturales, en los que intervie-nen universidades, colectivos de ges-tión cultural, fundaciones privadas yespacios non-profit.

intransit, plataforma de creadores uni-versitarios, nace en 2010 con el obje-tivo prioritario de relacionar de unamanera eficaz a los creadores en fasede formación universitaria y recién li-cenciados con los agentes culturalesque operan en el sector. Una cita donde realizar didáctica

sobre la importancia del esfuerzo per-sonal, el rigor en la práctica y la exce-lencia en el desarrollo de los procesosde investigación y creación. Un ejerci-cio de puesta en común y confronta-ción pública de discursos artísticos ysociales en el contexto universitario,abierto a todas aquellas personas in-teresadas por la creación, la participa-ción y el pensamiento crítico. La plataforma consta de una convo-

catoria pública, realizada por una comi-sión técnica independiente de expertos,unas jornadas de presentación de losproyectos con actividades participativasy un archivo digital ubicado en la red,que permite dar visibilidad a los proyec-tos seleccionados y potenciar la red detrabajo de los creadores.Intransit es una iniciativa realizada

JUSTPRODUCED¿Cómo podemos relacionar producciónartística emergente y mercado? ¿Quésignifica producir obra artística en unperiodo temporal de residencia artís-tica? ¿Qué sistema de inscripción sepuede generar para facilitar la transi-ción de un espacio de investigación yproducción a uno de exhibición y co-mercialización?

La cuarta edición de la feria introduceuna nueva sección que va a permitirque los profesionales y público asisten-tes tengan acceso a la producción deobra artística de varios programas deresidencia.

En esta sección se presenta una selec-ción de proyectos producidos en unaresidencia de artistas visuales, reciénproducidos en el actual curso, listospara ser exhibidos en un contexto exi-gente y competitivo.

The fourth edition of the fairintroduces a new section that willallow professionals and general publicto have access to the art workproduction of various residencyprograms.

Una Residencia de Artistas no sólo esun lugar que acoge durante un períodode tiempo a creadores desplazados desu contexto habitual. Una Residenciade Artistas es ante todo una experien-cia, que trasciende las paredes que sir-ven de cobijo y expande el universo dequien la disfruta. FelipaManuela co-menzó siendo un espacio de produc-ción independiente, en una viviendaparticular de Madrid. Durante su pri-mer año de funcionamiento, acogió enresidencia a catorce artistas que des-arrollaron proyectos site-specific. Parael 2013 el espacio se ha planteado nue-vos desafíos, dentro de un contexto encontinua transformación que exige res-puestas rápidas. Uno de los pilares deeste modelo es la creación -y manten-ción- de redes de intercambio y cola-boración con diferentes agentes, endistintos lugares del mundo.

Por esto hemos querido transformar elstand de FelipaManuela en JUSTMAD2013, en una plataforma de encuentroen torno a las residencias de artistas.Convencidas de la importancia que tie-nen en el sistema del arte actual, hemosinvitado a ex - residentes, antiguos ynuevos colaboradores, agentes prolífi-cos en este campo, a compartir sus ex-periencias particulares durante los cua-tro días de feria.

El programa de actividades diseñadopor FelipaManuela se ha centrado en ladifusión de programas de residenciasno convencionales, dentro de los cua-les se presentarán los nuevos proyec-tos impulsados desde FelipaManuela encolaboración con otros agentes e insti-tuciones. También se ofrecerá un espa-cio a los antiguos residentes, para pre-sentar los proyectos iniciados enMadrid durante 2011-2012 y que hancontinuado desarrollando.

An artist residency is not just a placethat hosts creators out of their usualcontext for a period of time. An artistresidency is above all an experiencethat trascends the walls of its shelterand expands the guest’s universe.FelipaManuela began as anindependent production space in ahouse of Madrid. During its first year ithosted fourteen artists who developedsite-specific projects. For 2013 thespace has engaged in new challengesas part of a continually transformingcontext which demands fast response.One of the pillars of this model is thecreation and maintenance of exchangeand collaborative networks withdifferent agents from around the world.This is why we have decided to

transform FelipaManuela’s stand inJustMad 2013 into a platform forencounters around the subject of artistresidencies. U&M lleva 27 años en este sectory cuenta con los más altos certificadosde calidad: Sello de certificación de ca-lidad AENOR ISO-9001:2008, Sello decertificación de ámbito internacionalIQNET ISO-9001:2008, Sello de acredi-tación de Editor en España por la Corpo-ración Internacional Epson utilizando latécnica de Estampación Digigraphie(primer sello concedido en España).

En la feria aparte de mostrar su trabajocomo fotógrafos, editores de Estampa-ción digital Digigraphie y control del colory calidad de impresión en las publicacio-nes especializadas, va a dar dos premiosy realizar diferentes actividades:

El premio con-sistirá en la asistencia en el estudio deU&M, de una semana de duración, delartista seleccionado. Presentación de las 2 últimas Estam-paciones Digitales que ha realizado elartista Luis Gordillo (reciente Premio2011 de Grabado en Calcografía Nacio-nal) en el estudio de U&M bajo la téc-nica Digigraphie, el artista las presen-tará en el stand Letra B el 14 de febreroa las 18:00 h.

Presentación de las nuevas técnicas deImpresión digital Offset para tiradascortas de publicaciones de artistas oproyectos editoriales. A cargo de ArtesGráficas Palermo en el stand Letra B el15 febrero a las 18:30 h.

Apart from showing our work asphotographers, as Digigraphie digitalstamping editors, as controllers of thecolour and quality of specialisedpublications, we are giving out twoprizes and producing different activities:

Los artistas más jóvenes buscan estra-tegias que intentan llevar el paradigmaartístico algo más allá con la finalidadde llamar la atención del mercado,ávido de novedades, y de paso resolversu irrefrenable necesidad creativa. Ma-niobras de emersión que dan respuestaa algo que está establecido de una ma-nera encorsetada o de acuerdo a lospoderes vigentes.

Pero no olvidemos que lo alternativo rá-pidamente se convierte en dogma, sobretodo en un sistema que absorbe todopara luego expulsarlo como un gran des-agüe. Por lo que este proceso de salir aflote se dilata en el tiempo, especial-mente cuando los artistas tratan de bus-car un lenguaje fuerte y coherente ajenoa las prácticas artísticas canónicas.

El trabajo del conjunto de artistas se-leccionados para Off Gallery parte deaspectos como enunciar lo personal,trabajar una narratividad, poética, au-diovisual, plástica, sonora, con el fin dedesarrollar un lenguaje propio. No tie-nen tapujos, tantean itinerarios dife-rentes, experimentan con los formatosy las disciplinas, incluso en ocasionesdifuminan los límites entre arte y di-

seño. Una suerte de tentativas que su-gieren hacia donde va una parte de lacreación artística contemporánea.

OFF GALLERYThe youngest artists are lookingforwards to new strategies that try tobring something beyond the artisticparadigm in order to draw theattention of the market, and stepto solve their overwhelming creativeneed. Emersion maneuvers thatanswer to something that is set in astraitened way or according to theexisting powers. But we can notforget that the alternative thingsbecomes a dogma very easily,especially in a system that absorbseverything for ejecting it quicklyafterwards. Such thing highligthsthis process of afloating in the time,especially when artists try to seek anon-canonical, strong and withconsistent language artisticpractices.

The artists work selected for theOFFGallery exhibition is all based onaspects such as working a narration,a poetic, audio-visual, plastic orsound pieces in order to developtheir own language. They have notaboos, try to size up differentitineraries, experimenting with

To-cado por la crisis, el movimiento artísticomás underground ha encontrado su es-caparate en Internet. Artistas y galeríashan aprovechado las redes sociales comoplataformas de difusión e interacción asícomo para presentar sus proyectos enespacios no convencionales y a través demedios alternativos.

La corriente artística actual, interdiscipli-nar y rompedora con las formas de clási-cas, está comprometida con su entorno;quiere inspirar la vida cotidiana de laspersonas en aspectos estéticos, concep-tuales y sociales. Los medios de referen-cia han perdido su supremacía absolutacomo divulgadores y generadores conte-nidos. Mientras, los medios sociales ofre-cen a cualquier individuo la posibilidad deconvertirse en informador con un soloclic. Así se crean espacios que emananun estilo muy personal y diferenciado,una forma de escritura particular.

En JUSTM4D hemos querido incorporaresas opiniones recogidas en la bogos-fera.
