Floating coat

• The floating coat is a backing layer of plastering

material that is applied to provide a base for the final

coat.

• Its purpose is to plumb and flatten the wall.

• The correct materials and mix ratios to use will be

found in the specification.

The materials used for floating coats consist of the following:

• aggregates:

• sand

• perlite

• vermiculite

• ordinary portland cement

• lime

• lightweight plasters (different grades for differing

backgrounds)

• additives (such as waterproofers).

to use ordinary portland cement and a well graded

sand.
