However Ill try to encourage them and repeat the chunk as much as possible. If they cant do it, they may say the number. Classroommanagement strategies: a corner for the community circle and tables and chairs in the other side. I will use cushions or chairs during the community circle because these resources help students to stay in their places. Then we will stand up and move to the tables. If they misbehave I will sing the we make silence song or 1, 2, 3, silence/sit down please!. Assessment: what will be assessed and how: Ill check students comprehend the meaning of sharing by performing diverse tasks such as manipulating paper cookies, working in groups and drawing. Now Ill ask students to sit down in a circle on the floor or in a chair, so that everyone can see and greet each other. Ill say or sing Lets make a circle! And sit down! Nice! Then we will sing the welcome song, Okay, lets sing the hello song Hello song: HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO! TO YOU AND YOU AND YOU! HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, HELLO! TO YOU AND YOU AND YOU! WHAT A LOVELY WAY TO START THE DAY! HELLO, HELLO, HELLO!
  4. 4. http://ec-pub-ecureuils-85.ac-nantes.fr/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=146 (adaptedversion) The song includes body language, that is, gestures and movements. The main purpose of this stage is to start the lesson and prepare students into the mood for work. Transition: Ill say Very good!! How nice! Okay, who remembers this story? and Ill show students the book The doorbell rang. WARM-UP: (around 5) - Teacher: Look! Here is Sam and Victoria! Whats her name? (pointing to the girl) - Ss: Victoria - Teacher: Good! And whats his name? (pointing to the boy) - Ss: Sam - Teacher: Well done! Victoria and Sam share their cookies with all their friends, right? - Ss: Yes! - Teacher: Great! Lets remember how they do it Students will watch a video of the story they read last class:
  5. 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESHLF92_rBw (shorter version: from 00:00:12 to 00:03:45) Ill draw students attention to the computer. While watching the video Ill have the class count the number of children on each page. Students will have the characters faces and fake cookies theyve use last lesson to manipulate while they watch it. In case technology wont work Ill have the book The Doorbell Rang by hand. Ill say all right, they divide the cookies by twelve friends. And theyve got one cookie each. How many cookies does they get?. Ss are expected to reply one cookie each, if they do not answer Ill say One cookie each? and they will answer yes/ one. And Ill repeat, One cookie each! The main purpose here is to review vocabulary and expressions from the story, since students will need them for the following stages. Tansition: Now Ill encourage students to count their mates, Lets count how many friends are you! One...two... while touching their heads. Ill let them continue till nine. PRESENTATION: (around 5) - Now Ill move the computer away and Ill show them a cookie recipe with some fake cookies inside and two reusable dishes:
  6. 6. Ill tell students Wow! Look at these dishes! One is for Sam, it says Sam here, and the other is for Victoria, here says Victoria! and I will open the book on page number 2. Ill say They are brother and sister, and their mum (pointing at her) prepares two dishes for them while showing the dishes and leaving them on the floor. Then I will explain They are our friends! Lets repeat, friends, Ss will repeat Friends. Then Ill take the recipe again and Ill ask them how many cookies are there in the recipe? Lets count! Ss will count the cookies, onetwo while taking the cookies out. Once we finish counting on, Ill say Excellent! So, how many cookies are there in the cookie recipe? and Ss will answer ten. Ill say Great! There are ten cookies! So now we have to divide them equally by two friends. Can you help me? Then I will name a pair of students to come to the front, take a cookie each and put it on a dish. Ill guide them by saying one for Sam and one for Victoria! Great! (Since students are 9 Ill ask last student to take two cookies). After all students participate, Ill say Well done kids! And now, how many cookies does each friend get? Lets count... and Ill let them count and answer five each. If they answer only five I will repeat five each and encourage them to say it. The main purpose of the steps above is to further working upon the concept or idea of sharing between friends, as well as exploring division concepts. Now Ill draw students attention to the same bag Ive showed them last class with the props for the role play. Ill say Look! What is it here today? What do you think?. Ss will answer whatever comes to their minds. After they finish guessing Ill say Okay...lets see while taking from the bag more dishes, but this time with students names.
  7. 7. Transitions: Finally Ill say Wow! Look! The dishes have your names! Now is our time to share the cookies with our friends! Lets move to the tables while moving to the tables. DEVELOPMENT: - Activity 1: (around 6) Work in groups: Ill encourage students to work in groups. They are nine so Ill divide them into two groups of three and one group of four. Each group will have 12 cookies on a tray.
  8. 8. Ill explain students Cookies have to be share equally. Each friend can take one until all the cookies are gone. The dishes are for students to put the cookies there, to be more organised and clearer see how many cookies each student gets. Each table will decide how they will divide the cookies equally. I will only interrupt if they ask for my help. Finally Ill ask them how many cookies do you get? and Ill let them time to count and answer. Ss will reply three/four each. - Activity 2 : (around 10) Drawing: Now Ill show students a drawing and Ill tell them Look! This is what our friend Victoria has drawn after sharing cookies with her brother: Ill ask them Do you like it? How many cookies does Victoria get? Look at her dish and students will count to five and answer five!. Then Ill explain students that they will draw themselves with the cookies theyve got Now you will make a drawing of you and the cookies you have got while giving students a piece of paper and crayons. Also, they have the cookies from the previous activity. Note: If they have time, they will stick these cookies on their drawings, if not, Ill take them home and Ill prepare a surprise for next class. HOMEWORK: If students finish their drawing, they will take it home and share it to their parents, as well as tell them about the story The Doorbell
  9. 9. Rang. Ill tell them We will take it home so you can show it to your parents and tell them about the story we have read. The purpose of the activities above is to foster contextualised practice of the teaching points, as well as work upon the value of sharing a limited amount of resources, and also to develop cooperative learning and the use of critical thinking skills, since students decide how to divide the cookies equally. Transition: Ill congratulate students for their fantastic job. Ill say Excellent children! Youve worked lovely! Look at your drawings, they are nice! Now come, follow me! CLOSURE: (around 2) Finally Ill invite students to sit down again in a circle, on the floor. Okay now is time to say good bye, lets sit down in a circle again: GOOD BYE, GOOD BYE SEE YOU AGAIN!
