students and with the teacher. Also, the reading skills are developed through activities that include an article about a boy who describes his family. Also, the writing skills are used in the production of an interview between the students.

Pedagogical use of ICT in class: there is no use of their netbooks during the class.

Materials: worksheets with exercises for each student, board, chalk and flashcards related to the topic.

Seating arrangement: According to the type of activity, the Ss will be sitting in pairs or in groups of 5 students.

Cooperative work: working in a semi-circle fosters interaction between learners and then, they will sit in pairs.

Possible problems and possible solutions: the most important problem could be the organization of the classroom. The learners are a bit active and it is very difficult to make them be quiet on their chairs. The possible solution is to be inside the classroom before the bell rings, so I could organize the classroom easily talking with them while they are coming into the classroom and they are sitting on their chairs.

Assessment: The assessment will be focused on listening to their partner´s descriptions of their families. Also, I will monitor them in their activities.

T: Hello Students! You are welcome to our last class together! How are you?

Ss: Fine! And you

T: Right! Mmm…. A bit sad because I won´t see you again!!

Page 4: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

Presentation (8 minutes)

T: Please, let´s sit in a semi-circle. Well, did you bring your family´s photographs?

Ss: Yes!!!

T: Ok! I brought a photo of my family, too. I will invite you to describes your families using “have got”. I will start with my own family.

(I will show them my photo walking around the class while I am speaking)

I have got one sister. I have my parents. My father is Victor and my mother is Teresa. I have got three uncles and two aunts. I haven´t got any grandmothers or grandfathers. (I will write the sentences on the board in order to make the students use it as a model)

You will have to make a few sentences describing your families. Please, use my sentences as a model!

Who wants to start?

Ss: Me!

T: Right! Tell us about your family! Please, show us the photo of your family!

Ss: I have got a brother. I have got my parents. My mother is Susana and my father is Gerardo. I have got my grandmother and my grandfather. I haven´t got any sisters. I have got one aunts. I haven´t got any uncles.

T: Ok! But when you say “I have got an aunts”, the word ”aunts” is wrong because you say “one” so it is singular and you should use “aunt”. Is it clear?

Ss: Yes. I have got one aunt.

T: Very good! Anyone else?

Ss: Me! I have got one brother and one sister. My brother´s name is Patricia and my sister´s name is Liza.

T: Please, Lautaro, could you describe your family´s photo?

Ss: yes! I have got two brothers. They are Raul and Marcos. I have got one father and one mother.

T: Right! Please, who else would like to describe their family?

Page 5: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

Ss: Me! I have got two sisters and a brother. I have got one grandmother and one grandfather. . I haven´t got any uncles and aunts.

T: Very good my students!

Transition: let´s keep talking about family members!

Activity 1 (20 minutes)

T: I will tell you something (I will speak while I am walking around the class since they are sitting in a semi-circle) …. Yesterday, I was reading the newspaper and I read an article about a boy who is living in London and he spoke about his family. He is called Franco and he is far away from his family (miming “far away”). I will give you a worksheet with the article. I will invite you to read it and find out what family members he mentions. Is it clear?

Ss: Yes!

T: You will read the article and you will …

Ss: find out what family members he mentions.

T: Ok, let´s start reading!

Page 6: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

T: Well, is it an interesting description?

Ss: Yes, it is!

T: How old is Franco?

Ss: He is thirteen.

T: Right! Where is he from?

Ss: He is from Colombia.

T: Perfect! And, which family members could you write down on your netbooks?

Ss: sisters, brother, aunts.

T: Correct!

I will stick one flashcard with a sentence from the article on the board and I will add another flashcard with the interrogative form of the verb “have got”. The interrogative form is in red.

WE HAVE GOT TWO AUNTS

HAVE THEY GOT TWO AUNTS? YES,THEY HAVE.

NO,THEY HAVEN´T.

T: Well, what do you notice something different between the positive and the interrogative forms?

Ss: yes! They are in a different order..

T: What do you think is different?

Ss: the pronoun and the verb.

T: Right! The positive form is composed by the pronoun plus the verb, and the interrogative form is composed by the verb plus the pronoun.

Page 7: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

Is it clear?

Ss: Yes!

T. So, the interrogative form will be composed by the verb plus….

Ss: the pronoun.

T: Right!!! And let´s look at the answers! If you answer “yes” you will change the positions again and it is similar to the positive form. Is it clear?

Ss: Yes!

T: And what will happen if the answer is negative? Do you think the verb “have got” will be in positive or negative?

Ss: Haven´t!

T: well done!!! The same happens to the singular form. I will stick another flashcard from the article on the board. Again, the interrogative form is in red.

CECILIA HAS GOT TWO CHILDREN.

HAS CECILIA GOT TWO CHILDREN? YES, SHE HAS.

NO, SHE HASN´T.

T: Ok! What happens in these examples? Is the interrogative in third singular person similar to the plural one?

Ss: yes!

T: Right! The verb and the pronoun will change their positions again and the answers will …..

Ss: change as in the singular.

T: Correct! In the third singular person and plural pronouns you will maintain the same pronouns in the positive, negative and interrogative forms, but there is an exception with the pronoun “I”! I will stick a new flashcard on the board! Pay special attention to the pronouns.

Page 8: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

I HAVE GOT SISTERS.

HAVE YOU GOT SISTERS? YES, I HAVE.

NO, I HAVEN´T.

T: What do you think is different from the other examples?

Ss: the pronouns change!

T: Yes! Perfect! When you are asking about yourselves, you will use the pronoun “you” in the question. Is it clear?

Ss: yes!

T: So, if the pronoun is “I” in the positive, the question will be composed by the pronoun ….

Ss: “you”.

T: Right! And, the answers are similar to the positive. The pronoun is “I “ again and if it positive, you will anwer….

Ss: Yes, I have.

T: And, if it is negative, you will answer…

Ss: NO, I haven’t.

T: Well done!!

Transition: let´s continue working!

Activity 2 (10 minutes)

T: Let´s sit in pairs! I invite you to do a role-play. One student acts as an interviewer and he/she will ask questions about his/her classmate’s family. You will ask questions about your classmate´s brothers, sisters, father, etc. Please, take your photos in your hands! You will ask questions using the have got.

I will give you an example. I will choose a student who will be the interviewer and I will ask him/her questions about his/her family) I will choose…. Joaquin!

Page 9: Lesson plan 9 Klein Natalia

T: Joaquin, have you got any sisters?

Ss: yes, I have.

T: How many sisters have you got?

Ss: I have got 2 sisters.

T: Have you got any brothers?

Ss: No, I haven´t.

T: Is it clear students?

Ss: yes!

T: I will give you 5 minutes to prepare it, and then you will show what you have prepared! You will read if you want. You will feel encourage to read the interview aloud.

Ss: yes!

T: Well, who want to share your interview?

Ss: WE!!!!

T: Ok, let´s listen to your classmates!

Jorge: Have you got any brothers? Milagros: Yes, I have. Jorge: have you got any uncles? Milagros: No, I haven´t.

T: Well done! One pair more, what about you? (pointing to the classmates)

Ss. We!
