Prólogo

LIBRO DE LA MUERTE

Dedico este libro en exclusividad a mi padre, se lo ofrezco en recuerdo de todas las buenas obras que me enseñó y que

yo espero haber podido imitar y haber hecho el bien al resto de la humanidad de buena actitud y conducta social

La palabra vida llena la boca a muchos escritores e incluso a algún pseudo filósofo como Javier Sádaba, por ejemplo, que hablan de las bondades y maravillas de la existencia a jóvenes y señoras mayores que dejan pasar los días como si nada sucediera a su alrededor, cuando en realidad está ocurriendo de todo, y fundamentalmente nada bueno, por decisión de los poderes políticos y económicos (financie-ros principalmente) tanto públicos como secretos (que se mantienen ocultos en el anonimato de las organizaciones criminales globales). Gran parte de los jóvenes y mayores andan entretenidos, perdiendo el tiempo, en las redes so-ciales, controladas por organizaciones, de dudosos fines sociales aunque aparentan ser beneficiosas para el ego personal de los usuarios de facebook, google…; pues, en realidad solo sirven para nublar la mente con brillos de grandeza individual imaginaria, que no corresponden con sus posibilidades profesionales y sociales personales.

Se vive en un verdadero mundo oscuro, sin gran futuro para la humanidad, envuelto en falsos resplandores que enturbia y confunde la mente de la mayoría de las perso-nas, que no soportan ni una simple contrariedad dicha por otros (distinto a uno) de manera presencial, y asimismo digitalmente cuando algo no le gusta lo borra o se deco-necta, pues viven día y noche en un mundo idílico. Frente a este tipo de realidad, no parece haber nada, es como si la existencia nunca fuera acabar.

La mayoría de las personas de todo el mundo (pues con la cultura digital se ha unificado los gustos y las aspira-ciones existenciales) no conocen ni le interesan saber nada de la muerte, cuando todos deben reconocer que nadie se libra de ese fin fatídico; lo contrario, sería adornar una

falsa esperanza sobre algo inevitablemente, que se va a producir para todos, antes o después en el tiempo.

Una excepción del olvido de la muerte, sino lo opuesto, es la que se ejemplifica con la celebración del día de los muertos, que tiene lugar anualmente en México, Guatema-la, Bolivia, China, Japón, Corea del Sur, Vietnam, Tailan-dia…; además, de la que se hace en los países con influen-cia de la religión católica con el día de “todos los santos” difuntos, en España, Francia, Italia… Los católicos lo celebrant el día 1 de noviembre; mientras que en México, por ejemplo, tiene lugar en gran parte del país, durante varios días, los últimos del mes de octubre y los primeros de noviembre; a lo que hay que añadir las celebraciones que se festejan en distintas épocas del año, en diferentes países del mundo, que también se han tomado de ejemplo y se han analizado en el presente Libro de la muerte. Den-tro de este tipo de celebraciones, una peculiaridad sería poner el altar en las casas particulares, manteniéndose todos los días del año, en China, Japón Vietnam… o co-locándose solo una vez al año durante la festividad de los muertos en México…

El Libro de la muerte está constituido por tres partes: la primera intitulada: “Sentido de muerte”, trata sobre la conceptualizadión del término, muestra su implicación cultural en las distintas civilizaciones del mundo, entre otras: Egipto en la antigüedad y México durante la época precolombina y actual. Asimismo, se añade una visión literaria sucedida a lo largo de la historia, a partir de la comprensión del tema en la Divina comedia de Dante, los Sueños… de Quevedo, Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo…, hasta ultimar presentando el pensamiento agnóstico. En la segunda parte se trata sobre los aspectos diferenciados y la conjunción de la tanatología y la bioética, y en la tercera, se analiza el duelo, tratándose en particular sobre el proce-so, la tipología y las modalidades del mismo.

Es exagerado el dicho chino de que “la cosa más im-portante en la vida es tener un buen funeral”, pero es igualmente equivocado pensar que la existencia es eterna, pues no hay vida sin muerte; en todo caso, se debe dar mayor importancia al vivir que al morir, pero nunca nadie debe olvidarse del fin de la propia existencia.

The word life fills the mouths of many writers and even some pseudo philosophers like Javier Sádaba, for exam-ple, who speaks of the benefits and wonders of existence to young people and old ladies who let the days go by as if nothing were happening around them, when in reality everything is happening, and fundamentally nothing good, by decision of the political and economic powers (mainly financial) both public and secret (which are kept hidden in the anonymity of global criminal organizations). A large part of the young and old are entertained, wasting time, on social networks, controlled by organizations, with dubious social purposes although they appear to be beneficial for the personal ego of Facebook, Google users…; for, in reality, they only serve to cloud the mind with specks of imaginary individual greatness, which does not correspond to their personal, professional and social possibilities.

We live in a true dark world, without a great future for humanity, wrapped in false gleams that cloud and confuse the minds of most people, who at the same time cannot bear even a simple setback said or reflected by others in a face-to-face way. And likewise, when they do not like something in digital format, he deletes it or disconnects, since they live day and night in an idyllic world. Faced with this type of reality, as opposed to life, there seems to be nothing, it is as if existence is never-ending.

Most people around the world (because digital culture has unified existential tastes and aspirations) do not know or are interested in knowing anything about death, when everyone must recognize that no one escapes this fateful end; otherwise, it would be to adorn a false hope about something inevitably, which is going to occur for every-

one, sooner or later in time. An exception to the forgetting of death, if not the op-

posite, is the one, which is exemplified by the celebration of the Day of the Dead, which takes place annually in Mexico, Guatemala, Bolivia, China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand…; In addition, the one that is done in countries with the influence of the Catholic religion with the day of “all saints” deceased, in Spain, France, Italy... Of all these, Catholics celebrate it on November 1; While in Mexico, for example, it takes place in a large part of the country, for several days, the last of October and the first of November; to which must be added the festivities that take place at different times of the year, in different coun-tries of the world, which have also been taken as an exam-ple in this publication.

Within this type of celebration, a peculiarity would be to put the altar in private homes, keeping it every day of the year, in China, Japan, Vietnam... or placing it only once a year during the feast of the dead, in Mexico...

The Book of death is made up of three parts: the first is entitled: “Sense of death”, which deals with the concep-tualization of the term, and shows its cultural implication in the different civilizations of the world, mainly the cor-responding to Egypt in ancient times and to Mexico during pre-Columbian and current times. Likewise, a literary vision that happened throughout history is added, starting from the understanding of the subject in Dante's Divine Comedy, the Dreams… by Francisco de Quevedo, Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo…, until finally presenting the ag-nostic thought. The second part deals with the differen-tiated aspects and the conjunction of thanatology and bio-ethics, and the third analyzes grief, dealing in particular with its process, typology and modalities.

The Chinese saying that “the most important thing in life is to have a good funeral” is exaggerated, but it is equally wrong to think that existence is eternal, since there is no life without death; In any case, more importance should be given to living than to the dead, but no one should ever forget the end of one's existence.

Introduction

Sense of death

Under the title “Sense of death” a text developed around mortality is presented, from the historical, cultural, thanato-logical, psychological, and bioethical perspective. The term “sense” according to the dictionary of Julio Casares, means

that includes or explains a feeling (…). Each of the aptitudes that the soul [thought] has, to perceive, through certain bodily organs, the impressions of external objects [facts or situations] (…). The particular way of understanding a thing [action or event], or judgment that is made of it. Reason for being, pur-pose (…). Meaning, or each of the different meanings of the words [indicated]. Each of the interpretations that a writing [term with its meaning] or discourse can admit (Casares, 1977: 763).

Of these meanings, one can mainly choose the one that

refers to the mental perception of all the possible situations that the fact of death entails on the human being, and oneself or in their environment in particular. Moreover, when equat-ing it with the concept of the meaning of life, it highlights the act of feeling death, but at the same time increases the mean-ing it has for each person in particular and society in general.

In this line of thought, the correlation that exists be-tween thanatology and bioethics is presented in the first place, since the first should not be applied without the joint use of the second. Subsequently, emphasis is placed on the differentiation that can be established between the three types of relationships that humanity has with death, and it is finalized by considering the three resulting groups: community or social group that lives with death (Mexico, India and Egypt in ancient times, among other countries), culture and social groups that live life apart from feeling death (Spain, Portugal...) and the group of agnostic people, who do not believe in the other world or another life apart from this. At the same time, death is analyzed from the vision that different cultures have of it, and finally, it will deal with mourning, with the intention of grouping in this book: death, thanatology and mourning.
