Este es un concepto que al hombre moderno no le gusta mucho, pues piensa que la conciencia, junto con el pecado, la culpa, la ética y la moral, son cosas que pertenecen a una tierra lejana. Lei la historia de Wayne,nadie le había dicho a Wayne que no debía prestar atención a su conciencia. Les cuento su historia. Wayne no tiene trabajo, lo que significa que no tiene con qué pagar el alquiler y sus deudas, ni con qué comprar comida. En tales circunstancias, Wayne hizo algo pecaminoso, peligroso, e ilegal: fue cómplice en el robo de $3.688 dólares de un banco. Si bien logró escapar sin ser descubierto, su conciencia no lo dejó tranquilo. Al día siguiente del

robo, Wayne se puso a pensar en lo que había hecho y, se sintió tan mal consigo mismo, que se enfermó. Fue entonces que decidió entregarse a la policía. Si la historia de Wayne hubiera sido parte de una película o un libro, algo habría sucedido en este momento que lo habría hecho cambiar de parecer. Pero en este caso, fue Dios quien le hizo ver su pecado, por lo que Wayne buscó direcciones para llegar a la Prisión del condado y caminó, sí, caminó cinco millas para ir a entregarse y devolver el dinero que había robado. Fue uno de esos momentos en que los ángeles del cielo se alegraron porque un pecador se había arrepentido. Nosotros también podemos alegrarnos porque nadie fue lastimado en el robo, porque la conciencia de Wayne cumplió con su trabajo… y porque el Señor triunfó. Lo más probable es que Wayne tenga que pagar su deuda a la sociedad, pero su deuda delante del Padre ya ha sido pagada por Jesús… así como nuestra deuda también ha sido pagada. Y por ello los ángeles también se alegran.

A few weeks ago Dan’s lesson was about the importance of developing relationships within the church body. To be part of a church family and yet know little or nothing about the other members of that family is not God’s plan. We are referred to as brothers and sisters in Christ. That reference alone indicates a close, deep relationship and it is just one of many

such phrases. The words “one another” are used constantly throughout the New Testament in reference to the love and support we are supposed to give each other as fellow believers in the kingdom of God.

How do we develop these relationships? It will only happen by spending time together. We have opportunities in worship, in Bible classes, in service projects, in fellowship activities and in Life Groups. I’m sure I’m prejudiced but I think Life Groups gives us the best opportunity to establish and develop these meaningful friendships. Dan mentioned how blessed he has been to hear stories of how Life Group members have been there for each other in times of struggle and celebration! There are also countless stories of how Life Groups have reached outside the group to help and bless others. Being the point guy for Life Groups I have the privilege of hearing even more of those stories than Dan. It works so well because it is God’s plan that was followed with amazing results by the early church. Don’t miss out on this life changing opportunity. When someone mentions the Ten Commandments what comes to mind? Do you think of them as a set of rules—primarily a list of do’s and don’ts? Do you think of them as negatives or positives?

The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for 400 years when God gave them the

Ten Commandments. The first thing of which He reminded them was that He had set them free from slavery. God had not delivered them from bondage only to put them back into slavery again. His Law was intended to teach them how to live so that they could forever live in freedom.

Those who reject God say there are no absolutes. They promote the idea that everything is relative—just do what you think best and what seems to work best for you. But without an objective set of rules to guide the lives of every human being, each person ends up making up their own set of rules, and life gets reduced to chaos. God gave us rules not to restrict or burden or enslave us. He didn’t give us commands to punish us or to make us unhappy. God gave us guidelines that enable us to live truly free. It’s as if God gently lays his hand on our shoulder and says to us, “My child, life works better if you will live this way.” During this series on the Ten Commandments it’s my prayer that you see each one as God’s gift to you to help you live a life that is fully free and happy.

Prayers for Members & Their Families Paula Bailey’s uncle, Norman Fredette, is improving at

Summit Hospital. He has several health issues. Maria Bravo is home now after 3 days in the hospital. Steve Chadwell and Laurie Deatheridge’s father, Bob

Chadwell, is at Life Care of Hickory Woods recovering from a fall and pneumonia.

Deborah Darnell requests prayers as she undergoes tests. Dave Forster’s mother, Joellen Forster, has been diagnosed

with Alzheimers. She is in Waverly Health Care and Rehab in

Waverly, TN. Shamone Davis’ father, Kelvin Davis, is very sick in ICU at a

Huntsville, AL hospital. Paula Luna Leiva has been ill this week. Anita Lewis’ father, Lee McClaran, is home and improving.

Her son is undergoing treatments and has a good prognosis.

Micah McCormac is home after being hospitalized for a bacterial infection.

Jennie McCormick’s latest scan shows that the blood clot in her brain has shrunk significantly. She hopes to be released from her doctor’s care this Wednesday.

Edna Mullins is awaiting biopsy results. Bea Neely is now at the Christian Care Center on Enon

Springs in Smyrna. Tiffany Pinson has been having health issues. Engles & Nancy Pope’s granddaughter, Erin Pickel, has

been having seizures, one right after the other. Her on-going neurological illness is requiring nursing care at home round-the-clock. Her 14

th birthday is Jan. 29. They

live in North Carolina. Debbie Seagrove’s aunt, Gwen Overstreet, has suffered an

apparent stroke. Doctors are ordering tests. Joyce Sneed’s brother, Jeff Hendrick, is recovering at

home from heart surgery. Sharon Vaughn’s treatments have been increased in

frequency and intensity after her recent test results. Deonesha Waters’ 3 year old niece, Jasmin Crook, has

begun chemo treatments after her successful surgery.

Guatemala Mission Trip Deadline

If you are planning on going on the

Guatemala Mission Trip this summer,

your $100 deposit is due January 25.

Brazil Update Danny & Lee Bratcher will be returning to Brazil on

February 18. If you have large pieces of luggage that

you could donate, they will be used to take needed items

for the Brazil mission work. Several other people

coming to the mission field will also be able to transport

arrived a little early, Jan. 9, weighing 5 lbs. & 1 oz. Everyone is doing well.
