1 SAFETY

1.1 WARNINGS

• Please read manual before proceeding with installation.

• This equipment must be installed by qualified personnel only.

• Before removing the equipment for servicing, switch off mains AND disconnect mains

inlet connector.

• Mains inlet connector is considered the disconnect device.

• Fit only polyvinyl chloride insulated power supply cords not lighter than light polyvinyl

chloride sheathed flexible cord according to IEC 227 (designation H03VV - far H03VVH2-F).

• The unit output can deliver a hazardous level of energy and should therefore be fused

accordingly. A 00755 distribution unit will provide the required level of protection. For more information see "Ancillary Components".

1.2 FUSING

• The mains input fuse is a 3.15A HRC type F fuse: size 20mm x 5mm

• A fuse or MCB must be fitted between the output of the power supply and

battery load as well as between the output of the power supply and the load.

2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The DD756 is a nominal 48volt telecoms power supply unit (PSU) with 6 Amp current limit. lt occupies only 1 U of a 19" rack and extends to a depth of only 145mm. An optional monitor/alarm or distribution unit can be fitted to the PSU and still occupy only 1 U of rack space.

lt can be used in applications requiring either a battery backed or unbacked supply. Where it is to be used with batteries requiring temperature compensation of their float voltage, an external temperature sensor can be supplied.

The PSU has an array of indicators providing necessary information about the system. There are four voltage indicators showing output as healthy, low or high and mains present. Three alarm indicators illuminate when the voltage goes either high or low or when rectifier fails. A bar graph showing output current and current limit gives an indication of the load on the system.

The PSU also has an overvoltage shutdown circuit which switches off the supply to prevent damage to the connected load and batteries. A Battery Low Disconnect circuit is incorporated to remove the output from the load if the output is taken too low to prevent damage to the batteries.

4.1 Float Setting

The DD756 is factory set at 55.2V far operation with sealed lead acid batteries at a fixed float voltage at 20ºC. This voltage can be adjusted by means of a potentiometer on the front panel. Be careful not to adjust this unnecessarily as it may cause damage to the load or batteries.

Note that when batteries are being temperature compensated the output voltage will vary around the set voltage as the temperature varies.

4.2 Mounting.

The PSU must be mounted so a free flow of cooling air can pass through the unit and over the rear mounted heatsink. lf there are any queries in this regard please contact Duvine Developments Technical Support. The PSU is intended far indoor/roadside cabinet use and must be housed in an enclosure conforming to the requirements of BS EN60950, 88415 or as applicable national standards.

4.3 Connections.

Multiway output Connector.

The output and control connections are provided on the 12 way connector as shown below: -

A mains lead with a moulded 10A IEC plug is provided with each unit. See 'Warnings' section re: replacement mains leads.

Only use correctly rated cables. Make all necessary connections before plugging the connector into the PSU.

4.4 Alarm Arrangements

The rectifier has a change over alarm contact for rectifier fail, rectifier high or rectifier low. An additional alarm that detects when the temperature sensor has become disconnected is available. The output high/low warnings and alarms track the output voltage setting. i.e. whatever the output volts are set to the low volts LEO will light 1 V below setting and the low volts alarm will light 2V below setting. Likewise the high volts warning will be 1V above.

4.5 Temperature Compensation

lf the unit is to be used to compensate the battery float voltage for temperature variation, temperature sensor must be connected between pins 5 and 6 of the output connector. The sensor is polarised and must have its positive lead connected to pin 6. Note also that pin 5 is connected to the negative bus.

4.6 Battery Low Disconnect

In a mains failure situation, when the load pulls the PSU output below 42 volts, the supply to the battery is disconnected by a set of relay contacts. Once mains power is restored the PSU output voltage rises above 52 volts and the supply to the battery is restored. This feature removes the output supply from pin 4 (-VE batt).

4.7 Over Voltage Shutdown

lf the PSU output voltage is torced high for any reason, the supply will be removed to protect equipment connected to the output. The over voltage shutdown will be activated at 59 volts and the supply will be restored when the battery voltage drops to 49V.

5 INSTALLATION Before powering the unit, please read through the entire manual and follow the appropriate safety warnings.

• Ensure that the mains and battery feeds are switched off. Plug the output and

mains connectors into the PSU. • Switch the mains power on.

• After a few seconds the unit will energize.

• The output voltage LEDs will settle to only green LEO on, indicating output voltage

is healthy. • Switch the battery on.

• The load current monitoring bar graph may light to show an amount of battery

charge current.

• Check output voltage after a while, once the batteries are charged to the set

voltage.

6 ANCILLARY COMPONENTS

6.1 Temperature Sensor

The DD610-1001 (2m lead) and DD610-1005 (20m lead) sensors are available for systems requiring temperature compensation of battery float voltages. The sensor should be mounted as close to the batteries as possible, preferably on the battery negative terminal.

As this device is polarized its positive lead (red or brown) should be connected as per the connector layout in section 4.3.

6.2 Distribution Panel

A DD755 distribution panel that fits within the same 19" 1 U module is under development. The unit is expected to have 8 ways of distribution up to 6A and two battery inputs. The DD756 output connector will be replicated on the rear of the distribution panel. Please contact Duvine Sales for further information. Turn to the end of the manual to view a preliminary layout.

6.3 Monitor/ Alarm Unit

A DD754 alarm unit that incorporates voltage and current metering along with individual alarm outputs is under development. The unit is expected to have automatic battery discharge testing that monitors the condition of the site batteries at an interval of 60 days. The DD756 output connector will be replicated on the rear of the monitor. Please contact Duvine Sales for further information. Turn to the end of the manual to view a preliminary layout.
