"I had just graduated and got the position at Egis, as systems engineer to work specifically with interface among systems. The project was the “SMSL – Sistema metroviario Salvador‐Lauro de Freitas” – 33km of lines ﴾with 1,6km of tunnels﴿ and 19 stations. The first metro station in the state of Bahia ﴾northeast region of Brazil﴿. CCR was the contractor and holds the concession over ... The team was composed by 19 professionals and among those were Brazilians and French people. Our Project Leader was Igor Montagnier, a great role‐model who taught me a lot about of what a project manager should be. What are the expected challenges in such a change of environment for you? In terms of size, the ExpoLink 2020 project is smaller than the last one, however the way it roles is quite different from how Brazilians tend to do rail projects. So it’s a challenge and a great opportunity to develop new skills and learn a more efficient way of working in rail projects, As per the distance from Brazil, well it is as far as it could possibly get, as the flight from Brazil to the UAE is one of the longest in operation today ﴾14hrs flight﴿. I had already lived abroad for a year in England, but this is going to be completely different. ... The Culture is entirely different and the impact for a newcomer is huge, due to the religion, the food, women and men relationship and specially the environment and weather, because this place is even hotter and humid than Brazil and that is not easy to find in the world. You have joint the egis teams of Dubai this September, what will you do there exactly? the operation of the lines and was alsoresponsible for the Rail Systems, whereasConsortium Mobility Bahia ﴾formed by AndradeGutierrez and Camargo Correa﴿, was responsiblefor Civil Works. I had two internships prior tograduation, however Egis was my first experienceafter university, as a professional engineer and Icould develop both technical and managerialskills with it. Although the most important thingto me was the realization that my main goal wasto become a Project Manager one day.

also to bring back to Brazil that knowledgeand transmit it to our teams back there.

About specific scope of work, in Salvadorproject, regarding system interface andintegration, we dealt with Level 2 ﴾Rail Systems– Civil Work﴿, Level 3 ﴾between Sub‐systemseither in Rail systems or Civil Works﴿ and Level 4﴾within sub‐systems﴿ types of interface, whereasin Dubai Project, we only deal with Level 2interfaces and integration.

Tunnel Ventilation and MEP﴿, but the missionis to gather experience in a high levelinternational and multicultural project, andhead back to Brazil with that knowledge toapply in South American Projects.

The team is composed by lots of nationalities﴾Iranian, Turkish, English, Scottish, Italian,Philippine and Brazilian﴿ which is one of thegreat things about it, the multicultural side ofit.

 

Tell us about your first days? 

Most of the team members had already worked in Doha project, so they werealready integrated. I was the last one to be add, although it didn't make adifference, I was welcomed to the team and we had an really great integration﴾see picture!﴿. Regarding the Client or Contractor, as we call it here, there's agood relationship and trust that we are doing a good job. We can feel their

dependence in the integration and interface management know‐how of Egis."
