PROLOGO

Para Pitgoras la armona del mundo se reflejaba en la armona de los nmeros. La

ciencia moderna le ha dado la razn en buena parte. El sistema de los nmeros ocupa

un lugar muy especial en la percepcin humana, y la comprensin del Universo en

trminos numricos se considera una de las grandes hazaas del intelecto.

De entre los nmeros enteros, los llamados nmeros primos han ejercido siempre una

fascinacin misteriosa en los matemticos por su comportamiento azaroso y su

significacin como pilares de la construccin aritmtica.

Euclides de Alejandra, famoso por elaborar el primer sistema deductivo bajo la forma

de una teora cientfica la geometra expresada en su libro Elementos- fue quien

adems demostr que existen infinitos nmeros primos.

Los nmeros primos son los nmeros naturales que slo se pueden dividir

exactamente por s mismos y por la unidad, o sea por el nmero 1.

Por ejemplo, el 3 se puede dividir de manera exacta solo por 3 y por 1, as que califica

como nmero primo.

Los nmeros compuestos son aquellos nmeros naturales que se pueden dividir

exactamente por algn otro nmero natural, adems del 1 y de s mismos.

Demostrar algo es ofrecer un argumento que nos permita llegar a una afirmacin a

partir de otras con rigor deductivo.

Podemos pensar en brindar un razonamiento que permita, a partir de ciertas premisas

verdaderas, llegar a una conclusin verdadera: precisamente aquello que se deseademostrar.

Esto es caracterstico de lo que se denomina demostracin directa, por ejemplo, el

argumento "todos los hombres son mortales" y "Scrates es hombre", por lo tanto

"Scrates es mortal" garantiza que si las primeras afirmaciones (premisas) son

verdaderas, tambin ser verdadera la conclusin con toda certeza.

Pero existe una manera diferente de demostrar una cierta afirmacin, que es la

demostracin por el absurdo. Consiste en partir de la hiptesis de que lo que

queremos demostrar es verdadero, no como premisa del razonamiento sino como un

supuesto, una conjetura. Se supone que si lo que queremos demostrar es verdadero

(que existen infinitos nmeros primos en el caso de Euclides), entonces si planteamos

un argumento o razonamiento que incluya la negacin de nuestra conjetura entre sus

premisas se arribar a una contradiccin.

En el caso de la demostracin de la existencia de infinitos nmeros primos por parte

de Euclides, si se plantea que "existe un nmero primo que es el mayor de todos" ello

es la negacin de que existen infinitos nmeros primos, pues esto ltimo significa que

no hay un nmero primo, cualquiera que sea, que es el mayor de todos los nmeros

primos.

Segn Leonhard Eulerlos matemticos han intentado en vano desde hace muchotiempo descubrir alguna secuencia en el orden de los nmeros primos, pero tengorazones para creer que ste es un misterio en el que la mente humana jams podrpenetrar.

1. Nmeros Primos y Compuestos a t ravs de una geometra diferenciada

A travs de la suma de nmeros impares correlativos, se puede descubrir si unnmero es compuesto.

Para hacerlo slo hay que sumar una seccin consecutiva de nmeros impares

tratando de igualar la cifra del nmero inicial que no debe ser sumada.

Si el resultado es coincidente, el nmero es compuesto.

No se pueden sumar nmeros no consecutivos y el mnimo de cifras a sumar son tres.

Los nmeros primos, en cambio, no se consiguen por la suma de nmeros impares, esnecesario integrar tambin a los nmeros pares que en este modelo se deben repetirdos veces.

1 + 3 + 5 = 9 (compuesto)

1 + 2 + 2 = 5 (primo)

Evidentemente los nmeros compuestos tambin pueden resolverse por la suma deun nmero impar y dos impares repetidos, pero se descartan debido a que son losnicos que se pueden construir tambin mediante la suma de impares sucesivos, talcomo se ha indicado.

1 + 4 + 4 = 9 (compuesto) = 1 + 3 + 5 = 9

Con estas combinaciones se pueden construir polgonos regulares e irregulares. Seconsidera que un polgono regular es una figura plana y cerrada formada al unir tres oms segmentos rectilneos. Un polgono regular es aqul cuyos lados y ngulosinteriores son todos iguales. Por ejemplo el tringulo equiltero.

En cambio un polgono irregular es una figura plana que no tiene los lados iguales. Porejemplo un tringulo issceles.

Lo que tienen de comn estos dos ejemplos numerales es que con ambos podemosconstruir dos tringulos: uno equiltero para los nmeros compuestos y otro isscelespara los nmeros primos.

Todos los nmeros compuestos tienen un centro divisible (nmero rojo)a partir delcual se genera un modelo simtrico que siempre es impar:

A + B+ C A + B + C + D + E

Adems siempre el nmero de cifras (1, 3, 5 = 3 cifras) multiplicado por el centro esigual al nmero inicial: (3 x 3= 9).

En la geometra de los nmeros compuestos (figuras equilteras de lados impares), elresultado puede establecerse mediante la suma de sus nmeros consecutivos siempreimpares que se desplazan. En ese proceso, paso a paso, va aumentando su tamao.

Tambin es importante destacar que cada nmero al cuadrado genera un nuevopolgono regular.

1 + 3 + 5 = 9 (32) (el tringulo regular ms pequeo)

3 + 5 + 7 = 15

5 + 7 + 9 = 21

7 + 9 + 11 = 27

9 + 11 + 13 = 33

Sin embargo con figuras geomtricas pares (en este caso el cuadrado), esto no ocurre

y el resultado de la suma siempre es un nmero par, que por supuesto queda

descartado.

3 + 5 + 7 + 9 = 24

5 + 7 + 9 + 11 = 32

A diferencia de los nmeros compuestos que necesitan variar las figuras geomtricas

regulares aumentando su nmero de lados (tringulo, pentgono, heptgono, etc.),

con el tringulo issceles de los nmeros primos no es necesario hacerlo. Slo va

aumentando el tamao de la misma figura (el nmero de la base (1) nunca cambia). El

procedimiento para encontrar el nmero par o impar que se duplica, es dividir el

nmero de la serie por dos, multiplicando a continuacin el decimal por dos (0,5) y

transformndolo siempre en 1.

2. Nmeros Primos: la frmula ternaria

Un nmero primo es un nmero entero mayor que cero, que tiene exactamente dosdivisores positivos. Tambin podemos definirlo como aquel nmero entero positivo queno puede expresarse como producto de dos nmeros enteros positivos ms pequeosque l, o bien, como producto de dos enteros positivos de ms de una forma.Conviene observar que con cualquiera de las dos definiciones el nmero 1 quedaexcluido del conjunto de los nmeros primos.

El trmino primo deriva del latn "primus" que significa primero (protos en griego). Elteorema fundamental de la aritmtica afirma que todo nmero entero se expresa deforma nica como producto de nmeros primos. Por eso se les considera los"primeros", porque a partir de ellos obtenemos todos los dems nmeros enteros. (El15 se obtiene multiplicando los primos 3 y 5).

Hasta ahora la sucesin de los nmeros primos ha sido poco predecible. Aschero

aporta un camino que hace totalmente clara su aparicin en un modelo aritmticosimple y poderoso. Durante siglos, las mentes ms preclaras intentaron poner fin aesta situacin pero sin xito. Leonhard Euler coment en una ocasin: "Losmatemticos han intentado en vano hasta la fecha descubrir algn orden en lasucesin de los nmeros primos, y tenemos razones para creer que es un misterio enel que la mente no podr penetrar nunca". En una conferencia dada por D. Zagier en1.975, ste dijo: "Hay dos hechos en torno a la distribucin de los nmeros primos queespero crean tan abrumadoramente, que quedarn por siempre grabadas en suscorazones. La primera es que a pesar de su sencilla definicin y de su papel comoladrillos que construyen los nmeros naturales, los nmeros primos crecen como lamala hierba alrededor de los nmeros naturales, simulando no obedecer otra ley quela del azar, y nadie puede predecir donde brotar el siguiente. El segundo hecho es

incluso ms asombroso, porque dice justamente lo opuesto: que los nmeros primoshacen gala de una pasmosa regularidad, que hay leyes que gobiernan sucomportamiento, y que obedecen esas leyes con una precisin casi militar".

Aschero demuestra la veracidad del segundo hecho con el siguiente anlisis: al sumardos nmeros impares sucesivos, iniciando el proceso con el nmero 1 y continundolocon nmero 3, se produce como resultado inicial el nmero 4, definindose de estamanera el principio del modelo que se aplicar en todos los nmeros primos sucesivay progresivamente en unin con la base ternaria de la multiplicacin que la frmula deAschero propone. Todos los nmeros primos estarn ubicados rigurosamente en lacifra anterior y posterior del resultado de la multiplicacin por tres. Tambin los

nmeros compuestos impares responden a este principio multiplicativo impar que eneste caso parte de tres y paulatinamente con los cuadrados de 5, 7, 9, 11 se irampliando a otros nmeros, dando siempre un resultado exacto, equivalente a la sumasucesiva de los nmeros impares, donde adems la cantidad de cifras imparesmultiplicada por el nmero central ser idntica a la suma impar y por consiguiente alnmero compuesto. Finalmente se establece una diferencia entre los nmeros imparesque se multiplican por otros impares para descubrir los compuestos (exceptuando ladualidad operativa en los "vacos primos") y los pares que se multiplican siempre portres en el caso de los primos. Y esto es aplicable a todos los nmeros primos ycompuestos conocidos y por conocer. Se puede asegurar entonces que los nmerosprimos tienen una secuencia regular ternaria que los conecta y ordena.
