FROM OUR PASTOR

TODAY

The second collection for this weekend, July 28 & 29, will be for St. Vincent de Paul. Please give generously for those in need.

Andrew, the broth-er of Simon Peter, said to Jesus, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" I’ve always admired the faith of the apostle Andrew. Even though he expresses his doubts, he still tells Jesus about the resources they do have. It is an act of faith to see what little we have, and yet offer it to God to use it however He wants to. Blessed Solanus Casey, a Capuchin from Wisconsin recently beatified, made the same act of faith when he started a soup kitchen for the hungry of Detroit. It was the De-

pression, and re-sources were few, but Bl. Solanus asked his brothers and benefactors to move forward with the project, trusting in God’s loving providence. Today that same soup kitchen, plus many more ministries for

the poor, continue their work in Detroit under the guidance of Br. Jerry Johnson, who was at San Lorenzo Novitiate before return-ing to Detroit. May God help us to trust in His love and bring him whatever gifts we have, no matter how small they seem. He will do great things with them! God bless you all!

OUR HOLY FATHER'S

INTENTIONS FOR JULY

Evangelization: Priests and their Pastoral Ministry. That priests, who experience fatigue and loneli-ness in their pastoral work, may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendship with their brother priests.

NOTICES

Did you know? Gender divides in childhood can perpetuate abusive behaviors. Parents of young children have likely heard the phrase “boys will be boys” many times — usually to excuse so-called “typical boy” be-haviors. But this rationalization can extend dangerously through adult-hood, to excuse sexual assault and harassment. The messages received by young children have lasting ef-fects. Boys hear that they need to hide their emotions, so if they are abused, they’re less likely to come forward. Girls hear that boys can be rough or rude, and learn to tolerate rather than push back. Eliminating this gender divide early may help combat sexual abuse and assault. NOTICIAS
