Reflexión del Evangelio

Juan 6:41-51

En este domingo, continuamos leyendo el "sermo n del Pan de Vida" que se encuentra en el sexto capí tulo del Evangelio de Juan. Recuerde que hemos estado leyendo este capí tulo durante las u ltimas dos semanas y seguiremos leyendo de el por otras dos. La semana pasada, la multitud pidio una sen al que mostrara que Jesu s vino de Dios. Jesu s respondio diciendo que e l es la sen al y el pan de vida enviado por Dios. En este punto, nuestro Leccionario omite seis versí culos en los que Jesu s predice la incredulidad de la multitud y desarrolla au n ma s su conexio n con Dios el Padre. En estos versí culos, Jesu s dice que fue enviado por Dios para hacer la voluntad del Padre. Jesu s promete que aquellos que miran al Hijo con fe encontrara n la vida eterna. Algunos de estos temas se repiten en la lectura del Evangelio de hoy. El Evangelio de hoy comienza con un informe de las quejas de los judí os sobre las afirmaciones de Jesu s con respecto a su identidad. Conocí an a su familia y sabí an que e l era el hijo de Jose . No podí an comprender lo que Jesu s quiso decir cuando dijo que descendio del cielo. Jesu s responde a las quejas diciendo que so lo aquellos que son elegidos por Dios lo reconocera n como el que Dios envio . Este es un tema recurrente en el Evangelio de Juan, de que Dios ha elegido a aquellos que tendra n fe en Jesu s. En los versí culos que siguen, Jesu s habla ma s acerca de su unidad con el Padre. E l es quien ha visto al Padre y, por lo tanto, conoce al Padre. Aquellos que escuchan a Dios reconocera n que Jesu s es el enviado de Dios. Aquellos que creen tendra n vida eterna. Jesu s concluye con el elemento central de nuestra teologí a eucarí stica. E l promete que el pan de vida traera vida eterna a aquellos que participan de e l, y e l nos dice que el pan de vida sera su propia carne, dada para la vida del mundo. Gospel Reflection

John 6:41-51

On this Sunday, we continue to read from the “Bread of Life discourse” found in the sixth chapter of John’s Gospel. Recall that we have been reading from this chapter for the past two weeks and will continue to read from it for another two. Last week, the crowd asked for a sign that would show that Jesus came from God. Jesus replied by saying that he is the sign and the bread of life sent by God. At this point, our Lectionary omits six verses in which Jesus predicts the unbelief of the crowd and further develops his connection with God the Father. In these verses, Jesus says that he was sent by God to do the Father’s will. Jesus promises that those who look upon the Son with faith will find eternal life. Some of these themes are repeated in today’s Gospel reading.

Today’s Gospel begins with a report that the Jews complained about Jesus’ claims regarding his identity. They knew his family, and they knew he was the son of Joseph. They could not comprehend what Jesus meant when he said that he came down from heaven. Jesus responds to the complaints by saying that only those who are chosen by God will recognize him as the one that God sent. This is a recurring theme in John’s Gospel, that God has chosen those who will have faith in Jesus.

In the verses that follow, Jesus talks more about his unity with the Father. He is the one who has seen the Father and, therefore, knows the Father. Those who listen to God will recognize that Jesus is the one sent from God. Those who believe will have eternal life. Jesus concludes with the central element of our eucharistic theology. He promises that the bread of life will bring eternal life to those who partake of it, and he tells us that the bread of life will be his own flesh, given for the life of the world.

In today’s reading, we hear Jesus say again, as he did in last week's Gospel, that he is the bread of life. We also hear Jesus add that he is the living bread. Both of these statements help us understand better the gift that Jesus gives us in the Eucharist. We celebrate this gift of Jesus each time we gather for Mass. We believe that receiving Jesus in the Eucharist will lead us to eternal life.

La Escuela de Ministerios forma hombres y mujeres laicos/as que desean crecer en su comprensión de la fe Católica y en su habilidad de servir a la Iglesia. Durante un curso de dos años, los participantes desarrollan conocimientos en espiritualidad, teología, y ministerio pastoral. Después de completar el programa de certificación, los graduados se sienten más cerca de Jesús y mejor preparados para servir en sus parroquias y comunidades. ¿Cuál es el Formato del Programa? Existen dos diferentes formatos. Escoja el formato que más le convenga. Formato de Clase Tradicional: se ofrece en español o creole. Esta clase se reúne una vez a la semana durante un período de dos años. Programa “Online”: se ofrece en inglés o español e incorpora 8 cursos “online” con reuniones en persona durante un período de dos años. ¿Qué tipo de certificado recibiré al completar el programa? Certificado de Estudios en la Fe Católica disponible para católicos interesados en conocer más sobre la fe y quienes no están seguros a qué ministerio están llamados. Todos los participantes disfrutarán conectar con una comunidad de creyentes adultos provenientes de diferentes parroquias de la Arquidiócesis. E-Mail: layministry@theadom.org What is the School of Ministry? The School of Ministry forms lay men and women who desire to grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith and in their ability to serve the Church.

Over the course of two years, participants develop knowledge in spirituality, theology, and pastoral ministry. Upon completion of the certificate program, graduates find they are closer to Jesus and are better able to serve in their parish and community. What is the format of the program? There are two different formats. Choose the one that works best for you. Traditional classroom format is offered in Spanish or Creole. This course meets once a week for two years (summers off). Online program is offered in English or Spanish and incorporates 8 online courses with in-person meetings over a two year period of time. What do I receive upon completion of the program? Catholic Studies Certificate is available to Catholics interested in learning more about the faith who serve in ministry and/or aren’t certain about their call to ministry. All participants enjoy connecting with a community of adult believers from parishes throughout the Archdiocese. This leads to rich discussion, and a broader notion of Church. School of Ministry Requirements:

A. Complete Registration Materials: Registration form, Non-refundable Registration fee

($25.00 if received by July 31st and $50.00 if received August 1st and after), two Personal

Recommendations (one must be from your pastor and one from a lay person, member of

the clergy or religious order), and Payment Plan form.

B. Excellent attendance and participation in class or online.

C. One Weekend Overnight Retreat and one Enrichment Day

Tuition total of two years: $660 per person, $1220 per couple. Only 20 payments of $28.00 per person (plus a non-refundable $100.00 payment by September) or 20 payments of $51.00 per couple (plus a non-refundable $200.00 payment by September).

Candidates for the Catholic Studies Certificate will meet the requirements for the School

of Ministry and the following:

A. Candidate MUST BE recommended by their pastor.

B. Candidate must be a fully-initiated Catholic.

C. Candidate is willing to serve sponsoring parish and commit to on-going faith formation.
