From the Pastor’s Desk Del Escritorio del Pastor

Dear parishioners and friends:

THE GIFTS OF THE MAGI…

We continue the celebration of the Christmas

Season this week with the great Feast of the

Epiphany of the Lord. Today we proclaim once

again from the Gospel of Matthew and hear how

magi from the east followed the star seeking the

“newborn king of the Jews.” (Matt 2:1). The

magi carried gifts of gold, frankincense, and

myrrh. Allow me to thank you for the gifts you

offered our new born Savior this year. You may

think: “Wait a second Father, you must be

mistaken.” I’m not a ‘king’ or a ‘magi,’ and I

certainly didn’t bring gold, frankincense or myrrh

to the manger.” But you did. Really, you

did! You brought gifts to the Christ child,

disguised in the faces of the poor and needy

children in our community. I saw the many gifts

for children from our “Giving Trees” that were

collected and given to needy children at

Christmas. Every week food is dropped off to

help support the good work of our St. Vincent de

Paul Society as they feed the hungry. Diapers and

other baby items were donated for parents who

said “yes to life” and are raising families. Last

year, donations were made to support the

Orphanage in Mexico I visit every year. I see the

gifts of mercy and compassion you offer when our

ministers visit the sick and comfort those who

mourn the loss of a loved one. You see, Our Lord

is not seeking gold, frankincense or myrrh from

you. He wants your heart. Jesus wants you to

know how much the Father loves you and extends

to you His mercy and compassion. This year, I

pray we all continue to follow the star. Give to

the Christ Child the greatest gift of all, your love.

God Bless you and your Families,

Fr. Vincent

Queridos feligreses y amigos:

Padre Vicente

Grateful Stewards

“Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold,

frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11B

The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and

opening their treasure chests for Him is an image that we should

all try to follow all year long. In gratitude for all that we have

been given, Christian Stewards are called to generously share all

of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us

to be the most generous with that one thing that means the

most to us.

The Knights of Columbus Nativity Council 2976 recently held an eye glass collection for the needy. This

month, the council was able to provide the Lions Club with 200 pair of eye glasses, which will be distributed

to those in need, both in our country and around the world. Once again, the council would like to thank the

Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, for participating in our collection. Without your thoughtful help, we would

never be successful in any of our efforts.

Happy New Year!

National Migration Week January 8-14 This week Catholic Church in the United States celebrates National Migration Week. Please pray for

immigrants and refugees here in our country and throughout the world. They are our brothers and sisters in

Christ. At our Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we will offer a special program on Sunday, January 15,

beginning at 12:30 p.m. in St. Lawrence Church. Parishioners from our community suffer the effects of

separation from their families because of our nation’s immigration policies will offer testimony of their

hardship. Refugees who fled their native lands due to persecution and suffering will also speak. Finally,

attorneys from the Camden Center for Law and Social Justice will make a presentation on immigration law

and be available for questions.

All of our parishioners, English speaking and Spanish speaking alike, are encouraged to attend to learn from

each other as we grow together as a parish family.

Prayer

MERCIFUL AND LOVING FATHER, We beseech you, open our hearts so that we may provide

hospitality and refuge to migrants who are lonely, afraid, and far from their homes. Give us the courage to

welcome every stranger as Christ in our midst, to invite them into our communities as a demonstration of

Christ’s love for us. We pray that when we encounter the other, we see in them the face of your Son, when we

meet a stranger, that we take his hand in welcome. Help us to live in solidarity with one another, to seek

justice for those who are persecuted and comfort for those who are suffering. We ask this through our Lord

Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever. Amen

nativas debido a persecución y sufrimiento.
