Most of the homes here have no doorbells. Instead, you are expected to announce

your arrival by clapping your hands. The weather in the country is very hot and

windows are always left open this the claps can be heard very clearly.

We have the second largest dam in the world, but the largest one which is located

in China does not produce as much energy as the ITAIPU dam. Itaipu is the global

leader in generating energy

Paraguay is the only country in Americas where over 90% of the population

speaks an indigenous language (Guarani). Unlike in Bolivia, Peru or Guatemala,

the indigenous language Guarani is spoken by non-ingenous people, the middle

class, politicians, and even used in the media. While many people skip Paraguay

for the ruins of Peru or the beaches of Brazil, Paraguay offers a different type of

South America, a South America that is well of the beaten path and refreshingly

real.

Usually, a cheap inn or hotel in Paraguay, serves as a brothel as well.

The meaning of the word Paraguay is water flowing to the sea

Paraguay is one of the two landlocked countries in South America; the

other is Bolivia.

Cerro Tres kandu, at an altitude of 842m, is the highest point in

Paraguay.

The Pantanal, the largest freshwater wetland in the world, is spread

across Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil.

The first railway line in Paraguay (and in southamerica) was constructed

between 1858 and 1861 by British engineers.

Paraguay’s navy is larger than any other land-locked country.

1 in 5 paraguayans is poor. Paraguay is among the poorest countries in South America, in terms of income per capita. Although it has declined somewhat, poverty still affects more than one-half of the population and income disparities continue to increase.

1 in 10 paraguayans lives in extreme poverty This year, Paraguay was found as one of the most corrupt countries in Latin

America, along with Venezuela and Haiti. While middle-class and upper-class children are indulged and expected to

devote themselves to studying and playing, the children of poorer urban and rural families are expected to assume productive work roles at a very young age. These children assist in agricultural work, household chores, and the care of younger siblings. It is not unusual for very young children to work as street vendors.

The poorest 40% of the population receive only 12% of the country’s wealth, while the wealthiest 10% share 40% of the country's revenues.

Nearly 85% of the land is controlled by only 2.6% of the country’s landowners, which contributes to a massive rural exodus. Corruption, political instability and the lack of structural reforms are also barriers to the country's growth.

First people- The Guarani were the first people on Paraguay First non-native people- The Europeans were the first non-

native people on Paraguay Independence- Paraguay gained independence in 1811. They

gained independence from the spanish Important people- José Gaspar Rodríguez Francia established

the first in a long line of dictatorships, General Alfredo Stroessner established a long-term dictatorship.

Paraguayans tend to stand close to one another while talking.  One to two feet is normal. It can be considered rude to back away from someone while they are speaking.

There is a fair amount of touching between men and men, men and women and women and women while conversing.  This includes hand on shoulders, hand on arms, and hand on hands for example the other day in a restaurant I wanted to order something in the restaurant and touched the waiter arm to call his attention he got so scared like if he saw a ghost, for me it was a funny situation.

Paraguayans tend to favor direct eye contact over indirect.  Maintaining eye contact creates an atmosphere of trust and respect

Paraguayans tend to place more emphasis on people and relationships than to the strict adherence of set schedules.

Services don't usually run on time and showing up late to a party or social function is quite common.

It is common for Paraguayans to publicly demonstrate their emotions, whether it is anger or happiness. You will see couples of all ages cuddling and kissing as they walk down the street and dramas between lovers or friends can be seen in public as well.

Bathing naked in Onsen with other people When I saw so many bottoms in the toilet for the first

time and didn’t know how to flush it. The sunset is very early! In Paraguay we have clarity

until around 7 or even 8 in summer. Low crime rates. The language barrier Slurping noodles. In Paraguay is considered bad

manners. The lack of sidewalks in many places
