ARTIST STATEMENT

Quiero pensar que tengo algo que decir, algo que aporta algu ́n valor, que aun que esa imagen sea a-temporal y a-lugar, que pueda tener un lenguaje universal.

METAPAISAJES: Durante la visualización de algunas de mis imágenes, espero que alguien más pueda identificarse con mi forma de ver el mundo, busco que una imagen trascienda y perdure, más que yo mismo; un tiempo de mi vida estuve reflexionando sobre la vida y la muerte, la que estamos acostumbrados a ignorar y obviar esta idea en nuestro día a día. En esta serie de fotografías busqué acercarme a esta idea de pérdida y lo que conlleva, mi intención es presentar los lugares donde nuestros restos permaneceran de una forma dulce y agradable a primera vista utilizando colores pastel que son agradables y de gusto general.

PERCEPCIONES: Utilizando los patrones de análisis de Rorschach busco confrontar al observador de las imágenes con paisajes o conceptos, que pueden llegar a ser obvios en mi intencion de mensaje, pero que la tendencia es querer ver algo distinto a lo obvio, negar lo obvio, lo que no queremos aceptar, como en muchas situaciones de la vida. Este examén consiste en escuchar los comentarios de una persona ante estos patrones, analizarlos y a partir de lo que se dice, se define y hace visible la forma de pensar del expectador.

CARAMELO: Durante los últimos años, me he dado cuenta del incremento del consumo en nuestra sociedad, asemejándose a los niveles de consumo que existe en países de primer mundo. Este patrón de consumo tiene un impacto directo en nuestro ambiente y calidad de vida, el manejo de nuestros deshechos se vuelve un problema en nuestras vidas que nos toca de vuelta, un círculo vicioso que debe romperse. Nuestro país posee una gran cantidad de recursos naturales que son envidiables para otros países, de alguna forma el guatemalteco se siente identificado con sus paisajes, sus volcanes, sus lagos, etc. Cada cosa que consumimos viene envuelta en plástico, desde lo más simple a lo más complejo, tenemos una dependencia e intromisión de los plásticos, que casi cualquier cosa tiene un empaque plástico, similar a los caramelos. Busco endulzar el resultado de nuestro consumo y confrontarlo con nuestro imaginario del paisaje guatemalteco.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT I think I have something to say, something that still provides some value, that images could be both timeless and placeless, that they could be a universal language.

META-LANDSCAPES: During the display of some of my images, I hope someone else can relate my way of seeing the world, I'm looking for an image that will transcends and endures, more than myself, the time of my life; I was reflecting on life and death, which we are accustomed to forget, how we ignore this fundamental idea in our day to day. In this series of photographs, I looked closer to the idea of loss and what it entails, my intention is to present the places where our remains will be buried in a sweet and pleasant way to sight, using pastel colors that are nice and of general taste. PERCEPTIONS: Using the Rorschach’s patterns analysis, I try to confront the viewer of the images with landscapes or concepts, that can become obvious in my intention as a message, but the tendency is trying to see something other than the obvious, to deny the obvious, what we do not want to accept, as in many life situations. This examination consists in listen the comments of a person in front of these patterns, analyze them and starting from what is said about them, it defines and makes visible the form of thinking of the Viewer. CANDY: For years, I have noticed the increase of consumption in our society, resemble to the levels of consumption that exists in first world countries. This pattern of consumption has a direct impact on our environment and quality of life, the management of our waste becomes a problem in our lives that we have back, a vicious cycle that we should break. Our country has a large amount of natural resources that are enviable for other countries, somehow Guatemalans feel identified with the country’s landscapes, volcanoes, lakes, etc. Everything that we consume comes wrapped in plastic, from the simplest to the most complex, we have a dependency and encroachment of plastics, that

almost anything has a plastic packing, similar to the candy. Looking for sweeten the result of our consumption and confronting the viewer with our Guatemalan landscape imagery.
