PRESENTATION

Ever since it was established as a collective cultural project, at ARCE we have always be-lieved that the contribution of elements for reflection, analysis and debate, so inherentlya part of cultural reviews, requires the development of a dissemination activity that pro-

pitiates the suitable broadcasting of its contents, the exchange of experiences and intellectualcooperation with interlocutors from all over the world.

In this line, through the shared management and the common space of a group that featuresdifferent and unique cultural projects, ARCE, for the last thirty years, has maintained a line ofactivity that gives priority to the international dissemination of cultural creation and to encoun-ters, exchanges and disparity as a question of principle and as a strategic line. Particularly in timesof crisis, and beyond any commercial possibilities, taking this direction is even more pressing instriving for intellectual synergies and complicities and as a basis for developing, through recip-rocal empathy, new projects for reflection, proposals, understanding and the enrichment thatjoint effort brings.

ARCE thus intends to maintain and consolidate the activity it has been performing so that cul-tural reviews have the means to allow them to reaffirm their specific weight at important fora forcultural debate whilst also undertaking an important number of international cultural coopera-tion activities, especially in Latin America and in the United States.

In developing the appropriate initiatives in this direction, ARCE boasts the excellence of its own pa-per and digital content, which are complementary and capable of featuring a broad spectrum for awide-ranging readership.The objective of the international dissemination of ARCE’s digital projectis underpinned by the very nature of the medium in which it operates, which by definition is open tothe world. In this field,ARCE’s cultural reviews have made significant advances thanks to the collec-tive drive provided by the consolidation of the portal of reference for Spanish-language reviews,www.revistasculturales.com, the development of its cultural kiosk for electronic formats,www.quioscocultural.com, and the recent incorporation of a digital subscription module.Also the vo-cation of the cultural paper edition has been and is a means to rapprochement and discovery, largelythrough specialised fairs, libraries and universities worldwide.Cultural Reviews, regardless of format.High-quality content for encounters under the aegis of diversity.

Ya desde su constitución como proyecto colectivo cultural, en ARCE ha estado siemprepresente la idea de que la aportación de elementos para la reflexión, el análisis y el debate,consustancial a las revistas culturales, requiere el desarrollo de una actividad de difusión

que propicie la adecuada proyección de sus contenidos, el intercambio de experiencias y lacooperación intelectual con interlocutores en todo el mundo.

En esa línea, desde la gestión compartida y espacio común de un colectivo que reúne proyectosculturales diferentes y únicos, ARCE mantiene, desde hace treinta años, una línea de actividadprioritaria para la difusión internacional de la creación cultural y para el encuentro, el intercambioy la disparidad, como cuestión de principio y como línea estratégica. Precisamente en tiempos decrisis, y más allá de posibilidades comerciales, esa dirección es más apremiante para la búsquedade sinergias y complicidades intelectuales y culturales así como base para desarrollar, desde laempatía recíproca, nuevos proyectos para la reflexión, la propuesta, el entendimiento y el enri-quecimiento del trabajo conjunto.

ARCE se propone, por ello, mantener y consolidar la actividad que ha venido realizando para que lasrevistas culturales cuenten con medios que les permiten reafirmar su peso específico en importantesforos de debate cultural, y desarrollar también un número importante de actividades de cooperacióncultural internacional, especialmente con el espacio iberoamericano y Estados Unidos.

Para el desarrollo de las iniciativas adecuadas en esa dirección,ARCE cuenta con la excelencia de suspropios contenidos en papel y digital, complementarios y aglutinadores de una gran variedad capazde llegar a todos los lectores. El objetivo de difusión internacional del proyecto digital deARCE des-cansa en la propia naturaleza del medio en que se desenvuelve, por definición abierto al mundo. Enese terreno, las revistas culturales deARCE han avanzado notablemente con el impulso colectivo enla consolidación del portal de referencia de las revistas en español www.revistasculturales.com, eldesarrollo de su quiosco cultural para formatos electrónicos www.quioscocultural.com, y la recienteincorporación de un módulo de suscripciones digitales. También, la vocación de la edición culturalen papel ha sido y es acercamiento y descubrimiento, en gran parte a través de ferias especializa-das, bibliotecas y universidades de todo el mundo. The Spanish Association of Cultural Magazines (ARCE) was born in 1983 as an initiative ofthe publishers themselves and with the objective of pooling the necessary resources andinstruments for the promotion of these cultural and business projects. ARCE currently

includes over a hundred magazines of thought and culture covering all fields from literature toart, without forgetting the social sciences and political thought, architecture, cinema, theatre,music, photography, and other forms of cultural and intellectual creation and expression.

As part of its activities and within the current wide technological panorama, ARCE has beenconsidering for some time one of the major preoccupations of the publishing world: the searchfor appropriate presence and marketing and the consequent reconsideration of strategies. Thisis a particularly sensitive matter in the case of periodic publications, especially with culturalmagazines that need an extra commitment if they are to stand out in such an extraordinarilymultiple and dynamic offer. The Association therefore started down this path with the creationof the portal of cultural magazines, a living and consolidated project that leads to the next stagethat is the launch of the ARCE virtual kiosk.


ARCE portal, which in a few years has become the point of reference for cultural magazines inSpanish, offers a permanently updated space with access to summaries, selected articles,novelties, and news from various cultural fields, with information on the main initiatives of theAssociation, which include studies and publications always available on the website.

ARCE virtual kiosk is a new space with the added value of its cultural nature, a common collectiveidentity compatible with the great thematic variety and richness of its contents.This kiosk ensuresthe visibility and dissemination on the network of the magazines and facilitates their distribution,which is particularly important at an international level. ARCE magazines from all thematic areastake part in this initiative, which includes the sale of current numbers (and in many cases historicalmagazines), with cards, a description of the contents, summaries and links.

LaAsociación de Editores de RevistasCulturales de España (ARCE) nace en 1983 por iniciativade los propios editores con el objetivo de poner en común los recursos e instrumentosnecesarios para la promoción de estos proyectos culturales y empresariales. En la

actualidad, ARCE agrupa a más de cien revistas de pensamiento y cultura que cubren todos losámbitos, desde la literatura hasta el arte, pasando por las ciencias sociales y el pensamientopolítico, la arquitectura, el cine, el teatro, la música, la fotografía y otras formas de creación yexpresión cultural e intelectual.

Entre sus actividades y dentro del amplio panorama tecnológico actual,ARCE se viene planteandohace tiempo una de las grandes preocupaciones del mundo editorial: la búsqueda de una adecuadapresencia y comercialización y el consiguiente replanteamiento de estrategias. La cuestión esespecialmente sensible en el caso de las publicaciones periódicas, particularmente de las revistasculturales, que necesitan un esfuerzo adicional para destacar en una oferta extraordinariamentemúltiple y dinámica. Por ello, la Asociación inició ese camino con la creación del portal de revistasculturales, un proyecto vivo aunque ya consolidado que conduce a otro paso: el lanzamiento delquiosco virtual de ARCE.


El portal de ARCE, que se ha convertido en pocos años en el referente de las revistas culturales enespañol, ofrece un espacio permanentemente actualizado donde se puede acceder a sumarios,artículos seleccionados, novedades y noticias de distintos ámbitos de la cultura, con informaciónde las principales iniciativas de la Asociación, entre ellas, estudios y publicaciones tambiéndisponibles en la web.
