22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Theme: “We are to take up our cross each day and follow Jesus.”

No pain, no gain is a common phrase which reminds us of the fact that sacrifice is al-

most required in order to accomplish things that are important. The saying holds true

with regard to growing in our love for the Lord and living as faithful disciples of Jesus

as well.

In the first reading, (Jer. 20: 7-9), we are given a look into the heart of the prophet

Jeremiah, and the trials and sufferings he experienced as a result of being faithful to

God’s call to serve as a prophet. The words of Jeremiah are powerful and poignant,

“You duped me, O Lord, and I let myself be duped; you were too strong for me, and you

triumphed. All the day I am an object of laughter, everyone mocks me.”

These aren’t words of surrender or defeat on the part of Jeremiah, but an honest expres-

sion of the struggles and personal price he paid as a result of speaking the words of the

Lord to the Israelites to call them to turn away from sin and evil and renew their faith

and trust in the Lord.

And although Jeremiah suffered as a result of his fidelity to God’s call to serve as a

prophet, his words make it clear that he also experienced an inexplicable joy as a result

of being faithful to God’s plan for his life: “I say to myself, I will not mention him, I will

speak in this name no more but then it becomes like a fire burning in my heart, impris-

oned in my bones, I grow weary holding it in, I cannot endure it.”

DESDE EL ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR

22º Domingo en Tiempo Ordinario

Tema: : "Debemos tomar cada día nuestra cruz y seguir a Jesús".

Sin dolor, sin ganancia es una frase común que nos recuerda el hecho de que el sacrificio

es casi necesario para lograr las cosas que son importantes. El dicho es cierto con res-

pecto a crecer en nuestro amor por el Señor y vivir como fieles discípulos de Jesús tam-

bién.

En la primera lectura (Jeremías 20: 7-9), se nos da una mirada al corazón del profeta

Jeremías, y las pruebas y sufrimientos que experimentó como resultado de ser fieles al

llamado de Dios para servir como profeta. Las palabras de Jeremías son poderosas y

conmovedoras, "Tú me engañaste, oh Señor, y me dejé engañar; Eras demasiado fuerte

para mí, y triunfaste. Todo el día soy un objeto de risa, todo el mundo se burla de mí ".

Estas no son palabras de entrega o derrota por parte de Jeremías, sino una expresión

honesta de las luchas y el precio personal que pagó como resultado de hablar las pala-

bras del Señor a los israelitas para llamarlos a alejarse del pecado y del mal Y renovar su

fe y confianza en el Señor.

Y aunque Jeremías sufrió como resultado de su fidelidad al llamado de Dios a servir

como profeta, sus palabras aclaran que él también experimentó una alegría inexplicable

como resultado de ser fiel al plan de Dios para su vida: "Digo a mí mismo, No lo men-

cionaré, no hablaré más en este nombre, pero entonces se convierte en un fuego ardiendo

en mi corazón, encerrado en mis huesos, me canso de soportarlo, no puedo soportarlo ".

¿Qué podemos aprender de la vida de Jeremías en la lectu-

ra de este Domingo? Lo que podemos aprender es que la

vida de Jeremías es el consuelo de saber que, al igual que

todos los creyentes, incluso los grandes profetas de Dios

pueden experimentar el rechazo, la depresión y el des-

aliento en su andar con el Señor. Esta es una parte normal

de crecer espiritualmente.

La segunda lectura de (Romanos 12: 1-2) San Pablo habla

del sacrificio como un requisito fundamental para llevar

vidas que son santas y agradables a Dios. San Pablo tam-

bién nos urge a no conformarnos con esta época. Esto re-

quiere tomar la decisión cada día para dejar de lado ambi-

ciones y deseos personales y para hacer nuestro número

uno prioridad y objetivo que de ser fiel a la voluntad de

Dios para nuestras vidas.

Finalmente, la enseñanza de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy

dice que quien quiera seguirlo debe tomar su cruz y se-

guirlo. Esta afirmación no deja lugar a dudas de que el

sacrificio es un requisito fundamental y no negociable para

ser un discípulo fiel. Por lo tanto, si queremos vivir como

discípulos fieles de Jesús y llegar a experimentar el tesoro

inagotable y la bendición del reino de Dios más plenamen-

te, no tenemos más remedio que tomar nuestra cruz cada

día y seguir a Jesús. En otro peor, sin dolor, sin ganancia.

Oremos a Jesús para dejar a un lado cualquier cosa y todo

lo que impide nuestro progreso espiritual, desvía nuestra

atención de la meta de nuestro llamamiento o inhibe nues-

tro testimonio para el Señor. Gracias por el ejemplo y el

estímulo de los muchos hombres y mujeres de fe que han

corrido la misma carrera espiritual ante nosotros. Y que su

fiel testigo nos dé ánimo y determinación para seguir en

sus pasos; Fortalecida por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo que

mora en él, para la alabanza y gloria de Dios. Amén. Alle-

(Continued from page 1) What can we learn from the life of Jeremiah

in this Sunday’s reading? What we may learn is that

the life of Jeremiah is the comfort of knowing that,

just like every believer, even great prophets of God

can experience rejection, depression, and discour-

agement in their walk with the Lord. This is a nor-

mal part of growing spiritually.

In the second reading (Romans 12: 1-2) , St. Paul

speaks of sacrifice as a fundamental requirement for

leading lives which are holy and pleasing to God. St.

Paul also urges us not to be conformed to this pre-

sent age. This requires making the decision each day

to set aside personal ambitions and desires and to

make our number one priority and goal that of being

faithful to God’s will for our lives.

Finally, the teaching of Jesus in today’s Gospel says

that whoever wishes to follow him must take up

their cross and follow him. This statement leaves no

room for doubt that sacrifice is a fundamental and

non-negotiable requirement for being a faithful dis-

ciple. So, if we want to live as faithful disciples of

Jesus and come to experience the inexhaustible

treasure and blessing of the kingdom of God more

fully, we have no choice but to take up our cross

each day and follow Jesus. In other words, no pain,

no gain.

Let us pray to Jesus to lay aside anything and every-

thing that hinders our spiritual progress, diverts our

attention from the goal of our calling or inhibits our

witness for the Lord. Give thanks for the example

and encouragement of the many men and women of

faith, who have run the same spiritual race before

us. And may their faithful witness give us encour-

agement and determination to follow in their steps,

empowered by the strength of the indwelling Holy

Spirit, to the praise and glory of God. Amen. Alle-

luia.

Our Lady of Good Counsel will have Eucharistic Adoration

on the First Friday of every month.

Come and spend a hour with Our Lord. Please use the sign-up

sheet to reserve your time with Our Lord.

Healing Mass Mass for Healing will be at 6:00 PM every First Friday after

Eucharistic Adoration.

All are welcome to come and ask God for Physical, Emo-

tional & Spiritual Healing.
