Prayer For An Increase In Vocations
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time
"You are not far from the kingdom of God." What does it mean to be close to God's kingdom? In today's
Gospel, Jesus is in a dialogue with teachers of the law. They know well the Law of Moses, with its com-
plex codes, expectations, and punishments. What will Jesus say? "You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength ... You shall love your
neighbor as yourself." Jesus effortlessly distills all the books of law into two commands. The simplicity
of the Gospel message doesn't mean it's easy to follow. Far from it! The simplicity of the Gospel indicates
its totality. Anything that requires the passions of our heart, the choice of our soul, the reason in our mind,
or the strength of our body - all of this ought to be animated by love. As you can imagine, that means
pretty much everything! The love of God and love of neighbor is meant to flow into our entire lives. The
Gospel can appear complicated because life is complicated. Not every outcast is easy to love. We lack the
knowledge or compassion to heal everyone who suffers. Personal sacrifice is not always noticed or val-
ued. In the face of the unknown, fear can be easier than faith. Life's circumstances can seem like obstacles
fuerzas."
Parish Thanksgiving Food Collection During the month of November as we give thanks for all that we have received, let us think of shar-ing with people and families less fortunate and truly in need. We can show our gratitude and concern by contributing food items, such as, canned goods, rice, potatoes, stuffing, cans of juice, etc., no per-ishable items, to our parish Thanksgiving Food Collection. Please bring your food contributions to church Sunday, November 11 and 18. Thank you for sharing and caring.
Sharing the Gospel
Love God above all things. You have choices. You choose whether to let your younger
sister play a game with you. You can give four quarters to the poor or you can buy a
candy bar. You can eat the whole candy bar, or share it with a friend. In church you
can pitch a fit, or you can say, "OK, Lord. I am sitting quietly because I love you."
The man in today's Gospel reading was a scribe. It was his job to write out copies of
God's word. Many of the scribes did not care for Jesus, but this one man really un-
derstood the heart of God's law-love. To love God and to love others is more impor-
tant than anything else.
Prayer
Jesus, help me to love You and love others the way You want me to. Amen.
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of you talking to Jesus.
Mission for the Week
This week, every morning say, "I love you, Lord, above all things."
RCIA 2018—2019 If you know of someone who has not received First Communion or Confirmation, or maybe even some neighbors who talk about our parish and have never been baptized, why don’t you come to the rectory office during office hours and fill out the information for us. We will contact them to see if they are interested in coming closer to Christ in the sacraments of the church.
