ABSTRACTCoriander, popularly known as coriander or Chinese

parsley Dania, is an annual herb of the familyApiaceae (formerly called Umbelliferae).

It is grown in summer

he essential oil is obtained by steam distillationfrom the fruit crushed and the residue was used forhuman or further processed to reco!er the

triglyceride feed.

his study e!aluated the feasibility of corianderfruits shelling as part of the preparation of seeds

before oil e"traction and de!eloped a simpleprocess for the shelling of cilantro

he shelling also doubled cilantro oil content increasedcrude protein $'&, crude ber decreased by /&, andreduced other carbohydrates by %-&.

he pre0press and sol!ent e"traction would be moreappropriate for pure shelled seeds due to their high oilcontent

INTRODUCTION

Coriander (Coriandrum sati!um 1.) is an annual crop of herbstraditionally grown for use as a fresh green grass (cilantro) oras a spice.

Cilantro is grown in most agricultural areas, e"cept in the

tropics and polar regions.

 he main producers are 2ussia, Ukraine, 3ungary, 4oland,Canada, India, 4akistan, urkey, 5uatemala, 6e"ico andArgentina (Diederichsen., #%7 1ope8 et al, ''/).

he fruit contains '.9 to #.& essential oil, which is %'0$'&linalool, the compound that gi!es the pleasant characteristicodor

*helling typically in!ol!es two operations

 OIL EXTRACTION

=il from coriander fruit and dehulled seeds withdi?erent hull contents were e"tracted using atubular radial screw press (*cott ech @2II%',inhedo0*4, Bra8il) dri!en by a . k< gear motor

Before pressing, the coriander fruit and dehulledseeds were heated to /- C using a uidi8ed beddryer

he air heater was set at #'' C and the air owrate was increased slowly until the bed ust startedto uidi8e. he heated seeds were pressedimmediately once the target seed temperature

was reached.

CONCLUSIONCilantro fruit can easily kill the rst di!ision of thefruit and seed loosening of helmets by a hullerimpact or a roll mill

he peeled fruit and coriander seeds with up to-& purity were susceptible screw, and fa!orable

results were obtained e!en by using a laboratoryscrew press.
