    El Separador Lodo Gas est localizado corriente abajo luego del estrangulador (choke manifold) yes uno de los equipos importantes para Control de Pozos que se necesita estudiar. Se encarga deseparar el gas expulsandolo del lodo , luego que este salga del pozo.

    El gas es expulsado hacia la atmosfera a travs de la linea de venteo en el encuelladero(para operaciones Costa afuera) o por la linea que sale del taladro(en operaciones de tierra)haciendo que el lodo retorne nuevamente a los tanques.

    El separador de gas de lodo de perforacin, tambin llamado separador de lodo lquido, es muyimportante para la seguridad de proteccin del proceso de perforacin en la que grandesvolumenes de gas natural o de gas amargo pueden entrar en el fluido de perforacin. Si el fluidode perforacin es invadido con gas, su peso especifico y viscocidad cambiara en gran medida. Porlo que, el lodo bentontico no sera calificado para cumplir los requerimientos de perforacin depozos. Puede contribuir a problemas en pozos e incluso accidentes de derrames "blowout". Altrabajar con el dispositivo de ignicin de llamarada, el producto puede garantizar un progreso sinproblemas de todo el proceso de perforacin. Entonces, el producto es un dispositivo ideal parael sistema de reciclado de lodo para prevenir la invasin de gas.

    De acuerdo con la presin, el separador de gas de lodo de perforacin puede ser dividido en tipopresin normal y tipo auto control de presin. Nuestro producto es producido de acuerdo con lasnormas API y ISO. Puede asegurar la perforacin continua en condiciones de desequilibrio endonde el aumento de presin ocurre normalmente. Al utilizar el producto, el bolsillo grandedegas puede ser remobido del fluido de perforacin para evitar el peligro potencial. El lodo de gasde corte entra en el producto y realiza una serie de placas deflectoras para aumentar el area desuperficie expuesta.

    Luego, el gas puede ser separado del lodo bentontico y desplazarse a la lnea deensanchamiento en laparte superior del producto para que sea ventilado en una distancia seguracon ms procesos.

    The mud gas separator is strictly used for well control only. There are some events that thisequipment is utilized in a well testing operation. Additionally, inspection for the gas buster mustbe performed frequently the same as other well control equipment. People tends to forgot aboutthis since it is just only a vertical separator tank without high pressure specification like BOP,choke manifold, valves, etc. Erosion is one of the worst enemies to the vessel like this and it canbe seen at the points where the drilling mud impinges on the internal wall vessel.

    Each mud gas separator has limitation on much it can safely handle volume of gas. If the volumeof gas exceeds the maximum limit, gas can blow through into the rig. It is very important thatyou must estimate gas flow rate on surface based on pit gain and kill rate in order to see howmuch expected gas on surface. This will be the limitation on how much you can circulate for wellkilling operation. You can estimate the volume gas on surface by using well control kill sheetprovided by several companies. You need to ensure that the vent line should be as straight aspossible with a larger ID in order to minimize back pressure while venting the gas out.

    The pressure gauge should be installed on the mud gas separator and frequently calibrated. Thisis very important because you will use this gauge to monitor the gas blow through situation. If thepressure in the vessel is more than hydrostatic pressure provided by mud leg, gas will blowthrough the vessel. By carefully monitoring, you will be able to react in a timely manner. If thepressure gauge shows you that pressure will be reach the limit, you should reduce currentcirculation rate to control volume of gas coming into it.

    There are several considerations for mud gas separator design. You need to know the reservoirgas because if it is a sour gas (H2S), the mud gas separator should be able to handle this. Thenormal vessel will not work safely with H2S. Even though it has a name as poor boy gasser, itdoes not mean that it can be built in a cheaper way by some machine shops. The vessel must befabricated to meet ASME specification and there must be a third party to certify it. Whats more,the scheduled preventive maintenance must be in place and strictly followed.

    How Much Pressure Will Cause Blow Through?

    This is a very important concept of blowing through while performing well control. Mud leg lengthis 20 ft and mud weight is 9.5 ppg (see Figure 2)
