SPAN 351 Panorama literario latinoamericano I, Fall 2020 A survey of the major authors and works of Latin American literature from 1492 to the end of the 19th century. Readings will include texts from all genres and will illustrate the main cultural and historical trends and movements. Hay muy pocos cambios entre las ediciones así es que pueden usar ediciones anteriores con la condición de que ajusten las preguntas generales y/o las preguntas de análisis correspondientes a cada lectura. OBJETIVOS DEL CURSO: Este curso es un curso de LECTURA. Busca preparar estudiantes en la lectura cuidadosa de textos literarios hispanoamericanos con el objetivo de lograr un mejor entendimiento de la herencia literaria y cultural de Hispanoamérica. Tiene el objetivo de examinar un panorama de textos literarios de esta región desde sus inicios en el mundo precolombino hasta los principios del siglo 20. Los estudiantes lograrán un entendimiento de la manera en que diferentes escritores reconocidos, ejemplifican una variedad de movimientos sociales y artísticos hispanoamericanos. El curso no estudia a ningún autor o autora en específico a fondo. Busca lograr un entendimiento general y una visión panorámica de la literatura hispanoamericano a lo largo de varios siglos. MÉTODO Y REQUISITOS DEL CURSO: A) LECTURA: Este requisito es esencial para lograr el objetivo del curso. Las lecturas se llevarán a cabo por parte del alumno siguiendo estos pasos:

1º: estudiar con cuidado la sección dedicada a los periodos y corrientes literarios tomando nota de sus características predominantes (vea p 2-13, 14-17, 116-123, 213-221). 2º: estudiar con cuidado la sección dedicada a la biografía del autor o autora 3º: leer los poemas, ensayos o cuentos indicados buscando las palabras que no entiende en el diccionario. Recomiendo el diccionario de la Real Academia Española accesible en el internet: http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/ .

B) ESCUCHAR las breves presentaciones del profesor en OnQ que tratan los temas y autores incluidos en el programa. Siguiendo sus comentarios y recomendaciones, buscar en las lecturas las respuestas a las preguntas indicadas en el programa. Si encuentra algún problema con las respuestas, puede consultar al profesor durante el periodo de charlas por internet. C) INVESTIGAR/RESUMIR. A cada estudiante se le asignará un trabajo de investigación breve para presentar en forma PowerPoint. Tendrá que investigar la vida de una autora o un autor o resumir algunas de las secciones en las unidades introductorias del texto (vea p 2-13, 14-17, 116-

123, 213-221). La entrega de la presentación PowerPoint será para una fecha límite firme establecido por el profesor. Se subirá estas presentaciones a la sección “Content” de OnQ para la consulta de todos los estudiantes en el curso. D) TRES PRUEBAS BREVES EN LINEA: Habrá tres pruebas breves en OnQ sobre la materia del curso. La primera prueba será durante la cuarta semana del semestre, la segunda durante la novena semana y la tercera durante la última semana de clases. No hay pruebas alternativas ni de reposición. Course Evaluation: A) Tests: 3 X 30% = 90% B) PowerPoint presentation on the life of an author or a written resume of segments of the introductory chapters= 10% All course evaluation components will receive numerical percentage marks. The final grade you receive for the course will be derived by converting your numerical course average to a letter grade according to Queen’s Official Grade Conversion Scale:
