*Confessions during the Stations of the Cross* The Solemnity of the Annunciation celebrates the coming of the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary to announce to her the special mission God had chosen for her in being the mother of His only son. We are continually reminded of the importance of this feast to our salvation in various devotional prayers. Two examples that highlight the importance of this feast are the joyous mysteries of the Rosary and the Angelus. The feast of the Annunciation began to be celebrated on this day during the fourth and fifth centuries, soon after the date for celebrating Christmas was universalized throughout the Church. This feast celebrates the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Trinity and the salvation of all mankind. This point of our salvation was deeply discussed by many of the Church fathers, to explain it to the faithful and to show the deep love God has for us. Some of the Church fathers who wrote on this were St. Athanasius, St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Augustine.

*Confesiones durante Via Crucis La Solemnidad de la Anunciación celebra la venida del Ángel Gabriel a la Virgen María para anunciarle la misión especial que Dios había elegido para ella en ser la madre de su único hijo. Se nos recuerda continuamente la importancia de esta fiesta para nuestra salvación en varias oraciones devocionales. Dos ejemplos que resaltan la importancia de esta fiesta son los misterios gozosos del Rosario y el Ángelus. La fiesta de la Anunciación comenzó a celebrarse en este día durante los siglos IV y V, poco después de que la fecha de celebración de la Navidad se universalizara en toda la Iglesia. Esta fiesta celebra la Encarnación de la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad y la salvación de toda la humanidad. Este punto de nuestra salvación fue discutido en profundidad por muchos de los padres de la Iglesia, para explicárselo a los fieles y para mostrar el profundo amor que Dios tiene por nosotros. Algunos de los padres de la Iglesia que escribieron sobre esto fueron San Atanasio, San Gregorio de Nyssa y San Agustín.

ANUNCIOS PARROQUIALES

24 de Marzo del 2019: Tercer Domingo de Cuaresma

ENRAIZADOS EN LA MISERICORDIA DE DIOS En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús cuenta una parábola de un hombre que plantó un árbol de higos en su huerta; pero, el árbol no daba frutos y el dueño estaba por desistir su cultivo. El jardinero tenía más paciencia; pues se encargaría de cuidar el terreno y fertilizarlo. Luego, si todavía no daba fruto, entonces lo cortaría. La parábola nos habla de la paciencia de Dios. Como el jardinero, el Señor quiere que nos enraicemos en el amor misericordioso de Dios y tengamos vidas fructíferas, consientes a la gracia y bondad en la cual estamos. Como el árbol de higos, realmente, algunas veces fallamos en dar buenos frutos, permaneciendo dormidos, viviendo solo para nosotros, quejándonos cuando enfrentamos desafíos en lugar de confiar en el abono de los sacramentos, especialmente la Reconciliación y la Eucaristía. Moisés nunca fue el mismo después de su encuentro con Dios en el monte Sinaí. Estamos llamados a estar abiertos a un encuentro diario con el amor de Dios. La Cuaresma es un tiempo de gracia cuando más conscientemente nos alejamos del pecado y nos acercamos a Dios, abriéndonos a la conversión, cambio de mente y corazón para ser tocados y cambiados por la misericordia paciente del Señor. Al hacerlo, podemos estar seguros de que nunca volveremos a ser los mismos.

CULTIVANDO TIERRA SANTA Hay tres practicas cuaresmales tradicionales que nos ayudan a cultivar la tierra de nuestras vidas para crecer en santidad y producir fruto bueno: la oración, la cual profundiza nuestra relación con Dios y fortalece nuestro deseo de vivir como seguidores de Jesús; el ayuno, por medio del cual aumenta nuestra hambre por Dios y se hace más atenta al hambre y las necesidades de los demás; la caridad, sacrificar tiempo, dinero u otros recursos para compartir el amor misericordioso de Dios con los pobres y vulnerables. Al seguir continuando muestro camino por la Cuaresma, cultiva la tierra santa de tu vida por medio de la oración, el ayuno y la caridad, para que vivas bien y fructíferamente.

March 24, 2019: Third Sunday of Lent

ROOTED IN GOD S MERCY�In today s Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a man who had planted a fig tree in his orchard. The fig tree was not bearing fruit, and the �owner was ready to give up. The gardener is more patient. He will cultivate the soil around it and fertilize it. Then, if it still fails to bear fruit, it can be cut down. The parable tells of God s patient mercy. Like the gardener, the Lord wants us to be rooted in God s merciful � �love and live fruitful lives, responsive to the grace and goodness in which we stand. Like the fig tree, however, we sometimes fail to bear good fruit, remaining dormant, living for ourselves, grumbling when we face challenges rather than relying on the fertilizer of the sacraments, especially Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Moses was never the same after his encounter with God on Mount Horeb. We are called to be open to an encounter with God s love every day. Lent is a season when we more consciously turn away from sin and toward �God, opening ourselves to conversion, change of mind and heart, in order to be touched and changed by the Lord s patient mercy. �Doing so, we can be sure we will never be the same again.

CULTIVATING HOLY GROUNDThere are three traditional Lenten practices that help us to cultivate the ground of our lives in order to grow in holiness and bear good fruit: prayer, which deepens our relationship with God and strengthens our desire to live as followers of Jesus; fasting, through which we heighten our hunger for God and become more attentive to the hunger and needs of others; almsgiving: sacrificing time, money, or resources in order to share God s merciful love with the poor and vulnerable. As we continue to journey through Lent, cultivate the holy �ground of your life through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, so that you may live fruitfully and well.
