LITURGY OF THE WORD Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Reading 1 IS 49:1-6

Hear me, O coastlands, listen, O distant peoples. The

LORD called me from birth, from my mother's

womb he gave me my name. He made of me a sharp-

edged sword and concealed me in the shadow of his

arm. He made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he

hid me. You are my servant, he said to me, Israel,

through whom I show my glory. Though I thought I

had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent

my strength, yet my reward is with the LORD, my

recompense is with my God. For now the LORD has

spoken who formed me as his servant from the

womb, that Jacob may be brought back to him and

her child she gave birth to a son. Her

neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord

had shown his great mercy toward her, and

were going to call him Zechariah after his

father, but his mother said in reply, "No. He

will be called John." But they answered her,

"There is no one among your relatives who

has this name." So they made signs, asking

his father what he wished him to be called.

He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his

name," and all were amazed. Immediately his

mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he

spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all

their neighbors, and all these matters were

discussed throughout the hill country of

Judea. All who heard these things took them

to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child

be?" For surely the hand of the Lord was with

him. The child grew and became strong in

“In his divine Providence, God wanted Our Lord to be borne poor among the poor. He did not, however, want to deprive him of human affection –giving him friends, like Saint John–, nor without the care of his Holy Mother,

preparó su venida, predicando a todo el pueblo de Israel

un bautismo de penitencia, y hacia el final de su vida, Juan

decía: 'Yo no soy el que ustedes piensan. Después de mí

viene uno a quien no merezco desatarle las sandalias'.

Hermanos míos, descendientes de Abraham, y cuantos

temen a Dios: Este mensaje de salvación les ha sido

enviado a ustedes".

Por aquellos días, le llegó a Isabel la hora de

dar a luz y tuvo un hijo. Cuando sus vecinos y

parientes se enteraron de que el Señor le había

manifestado tan grande misericordia, se

regocijaron con ella. A los ocho días fueron a

circuncidar al niño y le querían poner Zacarías,

como su padre; pero la madre se opuso,

diciéndoles: "No. Su nombre será Juan". Ellos

le decían: "Pero si ninguno de tus parientes se

llama así". Entonces le preguntaron por señas

al padre cómo quería que se llamara el niño. Él

pidió una tablilla y escribió: "Juan es su

nombre". Todos se quedaron extrañados. En

ese momento a Zacarías se le soltó la lengua,

recobró el habla y empezó a bendecir a Dios.

Un sentimiento de temor se apoderó de los

vecinos y en toda la región montañosa de Judea

se comentaba este suceso. Cuantos se

enteraban de ello se preguntaban

impresionados: "¿Qué va a ser de este niño?"

Esto lo decían, porque realmente la mano de

Dios estaba con él. El niño se iba desarrollando

físicamente y su espíritu se iba fortaleciendo, y

vivió en el desierto hasta el día en que se dio a

conocer al pueblo de Israel.

PALABRA DE VIDA

“Preparar el camino al Señor”

“La mano del Señor estaba con Él. El niño crecía y su espíritu

se fortalecía. Vivió en los desiertos hasta el día de su

manifestación a Israel”. (Lc 1, 80)

Dios, en su divina Providencia, quiso que Nuestro Señor naciera pobre entre los pobres. Pero no quiso privarle ni del afecto humano –dándole amigos, como San Juan-, ni del cuidado de su Santa Madre, ni de la ayuda de un

or the help of a predecessor to make his extraordinary work easier. His precursor was Saint John the Baptist, whose birth we celebrate today. We may also imitate the Baptist as “precursor” of Jesus; as his witnesses. We must be like that little donkey on which Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. With our good works, with our words, we have to direct all eyes to Him. If we smile in the midst of our difficulties, if we help despite being in need ourselves, if we fulfill our obligations although others do not, that will attract attention and, when they ask us, we will can say, like St. John: “One mightier than I is coming after me”. For to do this, we need two things: a holy and courageous life, and a great humility, to attribute to God the merit of our works. This second is the most important, for what good would it do to do good if we are unable to allow others to fix their sight on He who gives us the strength to do good. May each applause we are granted always be remitted to Him, the true and sole source of all Good.

Purpose: Imitate St. John preparing the way of the Lord. In this sense, do good works and when they ask us why we do them or they applaud us for them, lead everyone to the Lord.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

“SIN”

404 How did the sin of Adam become the sin of all his

descendants? The whole human race is in Adam "as one

body of one man”. By this "unity of the human race" all

men are implicated in Adam's sin, as all are implicated in

Christ's justice. Still, the transmission of original sin is a

mystery that we cannot fully understand. But we do know

by Revelation that Adam had received original holiness

and justice not for himself alone, but for all human nature.

By yielding to the tempter, Adam and Eve committed a

personal sin, but this sin affected the human nature that

they would then transmit in a fallen state. It is a sin which

will be transmitted by propagation to all mankind, that is,

by the transmission of a human nature deprived of original

holiness and justice. And that is why original sin is called

"sin" only in an analogical sense: it is a sin "contracted"

and not "committed" - a state and not an act.

precursor que le hiciera más fácil su extraordinaria labor. Ese precursor fue San Juan Bautista, cuyo nacimiento hoy se celebra. Nosotros también podemos imitar al Bautista haciendo de “precursores” de Jesús, de testigos suyos. Debemos ser como aquel borriquito sobre el cual entró Jesús en Jerusalén el domingo de Ramos. Con nuestras buenas obras, con nuestras palabras, tenemos que dirigir a Él todas las miradas. Si sonreímos en medio de las dificultades, si ayudamos a pesar de estar también nosotros necesitados, si cumplimos nuestras obligaciones, aunque otros no lo hagan, eso llamará la atención y, cuando nos pregunte, podremos decir, como San Juan: Detrás de mí viene uno que vale más que yo”. Para eso necesitaremos esas dos cosas: una vida santa y valiente, y una gran humildad, para atribuir a Dios el mérito de nuestras obras. Esto segundo es lo más importante, pues de poco valdrá hacer el bien si no conseguimos que la gente se fije en Aquel que nos da la fuerza para hacer ese bien. Que cada aplauso que nos dirijan, sea siempre remitido a Él, verdadera y única fuente de todo Bien. Propósito: Imitar a San Juan preparando el camino al Señor.

Para ello, hacer obras buenas y cuando nos pregunten el por qué las hacemos o nos aplaudan por ellas, dirigir a todos hacia el Señor.

CONOZCAMOS NUESTRA FE CATECISMO DE LA IGLESIA CATÓLICA

«EL PECADO»

404 ¿Cómo el pecado de Adán vino a ser el pecado de

todos sus descendientes? Todo el género humano es en

Adán sicut unum corpus unius hominis ("Como el cuerpo

único de un único hombre") (Santo Tomás de Aquino,

Quaestiones disputatae de malo, 4,1). Por esta "unidad del

género humano", todos los hombres están implicados en

el pecado de Adán, como todos están implicados en la

justicia de Cristo. Sin embargo, la transmisión del pecado

original es un misterio que no podemos comprender

plenamente. Pero sabemos por la Revelación que Adán

había recibido la santidad y la justicia originales no para

él solo sino para toda la naturaleza humana: cediendo al

tentador, Adán y Eva cometen un pecado personal, pero

este pecado afecta a la naturaleza humana, que

transmitirán en un estado caído (cf. Concilio de Trento:

DS 1511-1512). Es un pecado que será transmitido por

propagación a toda la humanidad, es decir, por la

transmisión de una naturaleza humana privada de la

santidad y de la justicia originales. Por eso, el pecado

original es llamado "pecado" de manera análoga: es un

pecado "contraído", "no cometido", un estado y no un

acto.

Baptism: Infant baptisms are usually celebrated on the 2nd

and 4th Saturday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

The pre-Jordan preparation will take place on the 2nd and

4th Friday of the month, after the 7:00 p.m. Mass.

Confessions: Every day, 30 minutes before every Mass.

Marriage: Arrangements for the celebration are made

with the parish office at least six months prior to the

wedding.

Catholic Women’s Conference 2018

Join us for a day of friendship, prayer and growth in

your faith at the 2018 Catholic Women’s

Conference. This year’s theme is “Daughters of the

King” and the day will be devoted to helping women

discover their foundational identity as daughters of

the King of Heaven and Earth. Saturday, October 27,

2018, 9am-4pm, at the National Shrine of Our Lady

of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA. Talks will be

offered in English, Spanish and American Sign

Language. A mid-September sellout is expected.

PREP News

Confirmation Certificates are now available for all

children who received Confirmation this past March and

finish their hours with the youth group. Please pick them

up at the Parish Office during regular hours.

Little Saints Academy Child Care at Pope John Paul II School

is set to open in September 2018. Registrations are now being

accepted for children 3 months to 36 months of age. Before

School Child Care is also available for school age children in

grades PreK-3 to grade 8.

Conferencia de mujeres católicas 2018

2. The Parish Social Club is sponsoring a Clothing/Food

giveaway in early August. Families in need are invited

to fill a bag with clothes and receive a bag of non-

perishable food and toiletry items. In preparation for this

event, we are in need of donations of gently used clothing

and shoes for infants, children and adults. In addition,

each weekend we will ask for donations of different non-

perishable food and toiletry items. Our goal is to provide

each family with a bag of similar non-perishable food and

toiletry items. At the masses next weekend, we are

asking for donations of canned vegetables and instant

potatoes. Please drop your donation in the boxes located

in the back of church. Clothing and shoe donations may

also be placed in the appropriate box in the back of

church.

Sound Theater in Lancaster to see the musical stage

adventure, Jesus.

En preparación para este evento, necesitamos donaciones

de ropa y zapatos usados para bebés, niños y adultos.

alimentos no perecederos y artículos de aseo personal. En

las Misas del próximo fin de semana, estaremos pidiendo

donaciones de vegetales en latas y papas instantáneas.

atrás de la iglesia. Las donaciones de ropa y zapatos

también se pueden colocar en la caja correspondiente en
