GOOD NEWS REFLECTION: THE FIFTH BREAD
"Love is like five loaves and two fish, always too little until you start giving it away." This is the message inscribed at a shrine near the northern end of the Sea of Galilee, built where Jesus multiplied a small amount of food to provide for the needs of everyone in the large crowd who had come to see him. In front of the altar is a Byzantine mosaic of the loaves and fish, dating about 480 A.D. It's next to the rock upon which Jesus blessed the food. However, in the mosaic you can see only four loaves, not five. Why? The fifth loaf is the bread of the Eucharist in which Jesus comes to us in Holy Communion at every Mass. The Eucharist is more than the True Presence of Jesus. It's more than a communion with the Body of Christ that's become the whole Church community. It's a miracle of multiplication. Whatever we lack from God, it comes to us in Jesus through the Holy Spirit, and when we participate in the Eucharistic celebration of Mass, we can (and should!) ask Jesus to multiply our insufficiencies into an abundance. We can trust that he will give us all that we need, at the perfect time in whatever way we're able to receive it, albeit often through a growth process. Do you have enough love in your life? Most of us would say no, because there is no one -- except God -- who is capable of giving us all the love that we need: No one, regardless of how close to us they are, regardless of how loyal and trustworthy, regardless of how close to Christ they are. The Eucharist is our earthly, direct connection to all the perfect love of God. The reason we don't feel the fullness of that love is because we don't fully understand how to unite ourselves to the Eucharist. To receive the life-changing impact of the Eucharist fully, be the Eucharist fully. The Eucharist is love given in sacrifice for the sake of others. If you're not receiving enough love, give more love -- be the love you want to receive. Be Eucharist for others. Is God's love sufficiently filling in the gaps where others don't love you enough? Take your needs to the Eucharist; ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to give more love instead of focusing on getting more, then ask Jesus to multiply the love that you give so that it's more than enough for your needs as well as the needs of others. Describe an experience of love being multiplied. REFLEXIÓN DE LAS BUENAS NUEVAS: EL QUINTO PAN
"El amor es como cinco panes y dos pescados, siempre muy poco hasta que comienzas a repartirlo." Este es el mensaje inscripto en una capilla cerca del norte del Mar de Galilea, construida donde Jesús multiplicó una pequeña porción de comida para satisfacer las necesidades de una gran multitud que había ido a verlo. Frente al altar hay un mosaico bizantino con los panes y los pescados, fechado alrededor del 480d.C. Está próximo a la roca sobre la cual Jesús bendijo la comida. No obstante, en el mosaico sólo pueden verse cuatro panes, no cinco. ¿Por qué? El quinto pan es el pan de la Eucaristía, en la cual Jesús viene hacia nosotros en la Santa Comunión en cada Misa. Podemos confiar en que nos dará todo lo que necesitamos en el momento perfecto, de la manera que seamos capaces de recibirlo, aunque, generalmente, a través de un proceso de crecimiento. ¿Tienes suficiente amor en tu vida? La mayoría de nosotros diríamos que no, porque no hay nadie -- excepto Dios -- que sea capaz de darnos todo el amor que necesitamos, nadie, no importa cuán cercano a nosotros sea, no importa cuán leal o confiable sea, no importa cuán cercano a Cristo esté. La Eucaristía es nuestra conexión terrenal directa con todo el amor perfecto de Dios. La razón por la cual no sentimos la plenitud de ese amor es porque no comprendemos plenamente cómo unirnos a la Eucaristía. Para recibir plenamente el poder de la Eucaristía, y que cambie tu vida sé la Eucaristía plenamente. La Eucaristía es amor dado en sacrificio por el bien de los demás. Si no estás recibiendo suficiente amor, da más amor -- sé el amor que quieres recibir. Lleva tus necesidades a la Eucaristía; pídele al Espíritu Santo que te muestre cómo dar más amor en vez de enfocarte en recibir más, luego pídele a Jesús que multiplique el amor que das para que sea más que suficiente para tus necesidades como así también para las necesidades de los demás. Please save the date: November 15, 2019 at 7PM in our school gym. Our parishioners will be the stars. We are planning a silent auction and other activities for the evening. This is part of our effort to raise money for a new roof for our school classroom building.

As you enter our church above the center doors you can see its cornerstone. The cornerstone has a scripture passage from Matthew 16; it is written in Latin and says, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church…” On the same stone is written MDCCCLXIX or 1869 the year in which the church where we worship was constructed. To celebrate this, on Sunday morning, October 20th, Bishop Peter Byrne will offer Mass here. In the afternoon, we will have a reception in our gym. During the reception we hope to display pictures that will show some of the history and life that has taken place in our church. If you have pictures of our church or of events that took place at our church, please call our rectory office (429-2196). If you have family or friends who were members of our church but have moved away, please contact them to ask if they might have pictures of church events. Pictures we receive will be copied and returned.
WELCOME BACK TO FR. PETER YEBOAH Fr. Peter Yeboah is returning to us for this summer from the Diocese of Techiman, Ghana, West Africa. Fr. Peter served here two years ago. Fr. Peter has visited the Archdiocese of New York in previous summers. We give him a warm welcome to St. Peter and St. Mary Church, and we ask God to bless Fr. Peter and us during his stay with us.
PROCESION DE CORPUS CHRISTI Corpus Christi are Latin words that mean “the Body of Christ”. Our Corpus Christi procession is a procession with the Blessed Sacrament, the gift of Christ Himself, through the streets of the Village of Haverstraw. We will walk with our Lord to Emeline Park with prayers and hymns. There we will celebrate Benediction and then return to our church where we will celebrate Benediction again. We invite you to join with us as we express our faith in this great gift of God to us and show our gratitude for Christ staying with us in this way.

La piedra angular tiene un pasaje escrito del Evangelio de San Mateo 16; está escrito en Latín y reza: “Tu eres Pedro y sobre esta roca edificaré mi Iglesia…” En la misma piedra también está escrito MDCCCLXIX, es decir 1869, el año en que la iglesia donde nosotros adoramos, fue construida. Para celebrar esto, el domingo en la mañana del 20 de octubre, el Obispo Peter Byrne ofrecerá la Santa Misa aquí. En la tarde vamos a tener una recepción en nuestro gimnasio. Durante la recepción esperamos poder mostrar fotos que hablen un poco de nuestra historia y de la vida que ha ocurrido en nuestra iglesia. PROCESION DE CORPUS CHRISTI Corpus Christi son las palabras en latín para decir “el Cuerpo de Cristo”. Nuestra Procesión de Corpus Christi es una procesión con el Santísimo Sacramento, regalo de Cristo de sí mismo en la Eucaristía, a través de las calles de la Villa de Haverstraw. Llevaremos a Nuestro Señor en el Santísimo Sacramento hasta el Parque Emeline en medio de himnos de alabanza. Allí celebraremos la Bendición con el Santísimo y luego de regreso a nuestra iglesia donde celebraremos nuevamente la Bendición con el Santísimo. Les invitamos a unirnos para expresar nuestra fe en este gran regalo de Dios a nosotros y así mostrar nuestra gratitud por Cristo haberse quedado con nosotros de esta manera.
